Too put my 5 year old in a nappy because of bad diarrhea

My ds3 is 5 and has got the trots very badly. He still wears nappies to bed as he is not dry, but this morning he woke up with a load in his nappy. He spent all morning on the toilet, but whenever he has come off he has pood his pants. He wouldnt stop pooing himself and unless I glue him to the toilet he wont stay on it. So I asked if he would wear one of his nappies "just in case". He agreed and has since been filling his nappies as oppose to his pants. I did emphasise to him that he is to try and make it to the toilet. Is this wrong, I do feel a bit lazy, but he was going threw all his pants, its that bad. If he is like this tommorow I will call the doctor. Thanks

I still keep a pack of large pull ups for this reason. Kids feel happier knowing they won't ruin underwear. I take a few on holiday too in case of sudden upset tum. Don't want the runs on holidays with no washing machine!

VegetariansTasteLikeChicken · 02/02/2014 21:41

If he isn't embarrassed by it what's the problem? Pull ups make more sens though

Twighlightsparkle · 02/02/2014 21:59

It's fine, hope he's better soon , poor chap

MedusaIsHavingaBadHairday · 02/02/2014 22:11

I had Norovirus just before Xmas..and if I'd had a pack of nappies in the house big enough I'd have worn one.. it is very humiliating having no control of your bowels .. I was squirting from both ends like a fireman's hose and at one point had my head down the loo when the other end fired..without ANY warning or control.. Blush

As soon as you he stops being quite so poorly , just go back to pants.Poor boy, hope he feels better soon!

pigletmania · 02/02/2014 22:23

That is awful medusa, I know tgey feeling, if I had a happy big enough for me I would wear it too in that situation

pigletmania · 02/02/2014 22:24

Nappy doh

siblingrevelry · 02/02/2014 22:30

I've done it with my son when he was 5-I got 'pyjama pants' so there was some distinction from a nappy, and explained that he was still to go to the toilet (which he did). The poor thing was waking up but not getting there in time and getting upset, so it was more of a precaution to save slightly soiled trousers.

M0naLisa · 02/02/2014 23:14

I too can see the logic in this but I can imagine my 5 year olds face if I suggested to him wearing a nappy because of Diarrhea lol

there is such a thing as adult nappies - they are used for old and/or disabled people and for those with severe inconvenience.

I wish I knew how to get hold of them - I could use them when pg as being sick makes me pee myselfBlush Sad
(stuffing a towel between my legs in a hurry or just wetting myself and needing a shower are worse IMO)

ZingSweetApple · 03/02/2014 07:15

*severe incontinence

although that is an inconvenience!Grin

Jinty64 · 03/02/2014 07:30

Ds3 (7) has only been dry at night since the summer and I still have a couple of bags of pull-ups. I was just thinking I must give them away but, reading this, I think I should hang on to them for a bit. I know de would choose to wear them in this situation.

pigletmania · 03/02/2014 09:16

Zing I saw them in boots, and waitrose of all places, they are made by Tena if that helps

pigletmania · 03/02/2014 09:22

Zing must be awful, yes try the incontinence section of boots tey most certainly will have then. You probably will be surprised the eople who use them. There are so many young and od with bowel/bladder issues.

Procrastreation · 03/02/2014 09:26

No unreasonable - but if it's that bad - make sure to keep him hydrated. Little bodies dehydrate very quickly. Keep him sipping dioralyte or salt/sugar homemade concoction - and get a medical opinion if it stays this bad longer than a day.

ZingSweetApple · 03/02/2014 09:38

piglet

can I snog you for that info?Grin

(I have brushed my teeth!Wink )

pigletmania · 03/02/2014 10:06

That's ok zing glad I can be of help Smile

pigletmania · 03/02/2014 10:07

I saw them when looking fir night nappies for dd, I think boots make their own too, it's a green packet I think

jeb20 · 03/02/2014 17:25

Thanks for all the replys. He spent all of yesterday in nappies and have kept one on today as he is still unwell. I am making him drink a lot of water, but he is too tierd to make it to the toilet so he is peeing his nappies as well. It is however the lesser of two evils, a nappy full of sh*t is better than all down hia legs.

My ds2 has also come down with the DV. He is 10 and alot better at getting to the toilet, however he did get caught short on a few occasions. He is also wears nappies at night (he uses drynites pull ups) so he has been wearing them all day . With his however he can pull them down to use the toilet.

Having a NT 10 yo in nappies in teh day is odd. I have just checked your name and you have 9 threads all about big kids wearing nappies even a 12 yo, none about anything else.
Alarm bells ringing,poo troll?.

Gileswithachainsaw · 03/02/2014 18:17

Geez, I doubt she's alone in having older kids in nappies at night or having children with continence issues.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 03/02/2014 18:21

9 threads within a matter of days is odd though.

Gileswithachainsaw · 03/02/2014 18:24

I've seen worse. Some have two or three threads going in the same day.

pigletmania · 03/02/2014 18:33

Pixi they make dry nites and underjams for up to 15 years old for a reason, as some still wet the bed fir some reason or another.

ClairesTravellingCircus · 03/02/2014 18:36

Why check op's history?

HadABadDay2014 · 03/02/2014 18:40

I would, infact I have been know to use my sanitary pads in the DC pants when D&V
