Too put my 5 year old in a nappy because of bad diarrhea

My ds3 is 5 and has got the trots very badly. He still wears nappies to bed as he is not dry, but this morning he woke up with a load in his nappy. He spent all morning on the toilet, but whenever he has come off he has pood his pants. He wouldnt stop pooing himself and unless I glue him to the toilet he wont stay on it. So I asked if he would wear one of his nappies "just in case". He agreed and has since been filling his nappies as oppose to his pants. I did emphasise to him that he is to try and make it to the toilet. Is this wrong, I do feel a bit lazy, but he was going threw all his pants, its that bad. If he is like this tommorow I will call the doctor. Thanks

I used Tenna lady **

FlockOfTwats · 02/02/2014 14:16

body Of course the general idea is to change it as soon as the accident happens. It's just less messy and less embarrassing i think, And you're not going to feel as uncomfortable getting to the toilet because you dont feel the wetness so much.

Impatientismymiddlename · 02/02/2014 14:17

I understand the practicalities of it, but would you wear a nappy if you had diarrohea?

mrsjay · 02/02/2014 14:18

well last time i had an upset stomach I wore a bodyform just in case sorry that is a bit TMI but needs must sometimes

FlockOfTwats · 02/02/2014 14:21

Impatient I understand your question was for the OP but personally, Absolutely i would wear some form of protection if it were that bad that i couldn't make it to the toilet.

Impatientismymiddlename · 02/02/2014 14:25

My point was the if the OP would wear protection herself then it's fine for her child to wear protection. I believe in treating my children in the same way as I wish myself to be treated (as much as reasonably possible).
I would wear protection if I was on my period as I have no control of blood flow. I haven't got anything against protection.

Defnotsupergirl · 02/02/2014 14:58

Yes, perfectly reasonable but the DCs here understand that Granpa has to also wear pull ups because he has has a stroke and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. When you are ill you are ill......

pigletmania · 02/02/2014 15:23

I most certainly would, why would you peaked life more difficult. He is 5 nit 15, I am sure he is sad enough that he has the trots and probably would not care less if he has a nappy or pull up on. It's more humiliating to having it run everywhere and in your clothes and floor than contained in a nappy. If needs must I say. You could get some cheap pull ups from Morrison or Asda, or the under jams (though more expensive) would contain better

pigletmania · 02/02/2014 15:24

Make doh silly auto correct

pigletmania · 02/02/2014 15:25

Impatient the boy is only 5 and most probably has less control than an adult. It's at home fgs, he's not going out in the street with it Hmm

pigletmania · 02/02/2014 15:28

Impatient they do gave adult nappies, yes if I was very severe like op ds I would, better than graving to clear up a load of mess, that's more embarrassing. Yes I would wear them out if I had bowl problems that meant that of I could not find a loo fast I would poo myself.

pigletmania · 02/02/2014 15:32

The body of course op is changing as soon as he goes I am sure Hmm. Op ignore us in here, you do what you gave to. Tell him as he us not well he has to wear one for a little bit. I am sure he understands

gamerchick · 02/02/2014 15:36

Im trying to decide whether impatient has rock solid arse muscles that clamp shut at the first sign of the runs... never gets the runs or sees no shame in shatting themself.... to ask such a question Grin

pigletmania · 02/02/2014 15:40

Gamerchick Grin at impatients arse of steel Grin

Impatientismymiddlename · 02/02/2014 16:05

I don't have an ass of steel, but as an adult I do have a supply of Imodium in my medical cabinet, so don't need to suffer shitting myself.
When my children have had the runs we have managed without nappies, we just clean up the mess without embarrassment. Same as we clean up vomit without embarrassment. I wouldn't Sellotape a paper bag to my kids head if he was vomiting to save on the mess.
Each to their own and all.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 02/02/2014 16:12

Children tend to have less bowel control than adults and soiling yourself is utterly humiliating, as well as messy, so I would see a nappy as the lesser of two evils.

He sounds really poorly OP, I'd get medical advice ASAP if I were you.

pigletmania · 02/02/2014 16:19

That's up to you impatient, but don't criticise anyone else. You can put a pull up on a bum but you can't put it over your head, it's not possible. But if ds is in a pull up and he has an accident it will be more contained and easier to clean up. I've done that to dd6, a few months ago she had diarrhoea, I had some night time pull ups, thank goodness I did, she was asleep and had an accident in bed, all I did was remove the pull up, it was nit all over her or her bed sheets, so all I did was wash her. When your ill, rules do not apply, you do what you have to!

ZingSweetApple · 02/02/2014 16:33

just replying to OP

YANBU

I did that to some of mine, even at the age of 8.
they understood why night time special pants would be beneficial so were ok with it.

pigletmania · 02/02/2014 16:33

Yes children gave less bowel control than adults, op ds is only little not an older child, thank goodness for this day and age, we don't have it as bad as our parents used to. They make underjams fir up to 15 years old, so not for babies!

gamerchick · 02/02/2014 16:46

ah right so it's the shatting yourself as the preference. I knew it has to be one of them Grin

btw... sometimes it's better not to take immodium or anything else to bung you up unless you have to. some bugs really need to leave the body as quick as possible.. that's why you get the runs or vomit.

hope the bairns feeling better OP.

mrsjay · 02/02/2014 16:59

Impatient you can not treat a 5 yr oldlittle boy the same as a 35 yr old adult they are not the same or equal that is just silly and a bit pretentious

Gileswithachainsaw · 02/02/2014 17:07

inpatient

Young or old, having to be in a nappy shouldn't be embarrassing!!! Anyone's first thought would be a medical reason .

Having to drip shit everywhere via mummy too proud to use a nappy.... Now that's embarrassing for the poor kid.

superram · 02/02/2014 17:13

I am 34 and when I had bad dv I lined my pants with my sons size 5 nappies. I wasn't embarrassed. I just didn't want to mess myself getting to the toilet and was so tired I needed to be in bed. It saved me changing pants and pjs all day.

pigletmania · 02/02/2014 17:29

I would have thought the most common sense thing to do was stick a pull up on a young child with diarrhea. Obviously some people have too much time on their hands, and like cleaning up endless poo!

BettyMacdonald · 02/02/2014 19:36

My 4 year old has proper flu at the moment and is really unwell. He's asked to wear a pull up during the day as he simply hasn't got the energy to go to the loo for a wee (I'm making him drink loads as his temp hasn't been below 38 for 2 days). I really don't have an issue with it. The only thing I do have an issue with is his belief that 'sharing is caring' and now I bloody well have it I hope your DS is better soon OP
