I'm hosting a sleepover for my DDs birthday and while most of her friends are relatively well mannered, a couple of them are ill mannered little madams who have ordered DH and round for the last 6 hours without a single please or thankyou. I could scream!

"May I have the salt?"

That still grinds my gears

"Please my I have the salt" or "May I have the salt please", sounds far more polite.

"May I have the salt" - add a "please" onto the end of that and your request will sound far more polite..

YANBU. I think it is fine to remind children to say please and thank you. Not in an angry or shaming way, just a cheerful reminder. If these children are used to ordering their parents around rudely, you would actually be doing them a favour by letting them know that this sort of behaviour is unacceptable in other people's homes.

Rudeness is something I cannot stand, in children or adults. Grrr.
