I am a women a grown up women

I have never got to grip with my cycle and I'm always taken by surprise and usually have a small pant accident every single month

Do other people have this or I'm I just weird by not knowing my cycle?

I'm not surprised but I'm getting really annoyed. I'm coming up on 49 and every month Flo comes to town. I was a right evil woman to all and sundry on Thursday. I could not figure out why I was so angry, until I looked at calendar and figured my period was due. I am sitting here clutching my iPad and a hot water bottle..

jayho · 02/02/2014 01:21

Secret I'm with you. I'm 50 fer chrissakes, I'm now on a bang on 28 day schedule with pmt from day 18-24, carb craving in same period (scuse pun) ready to kill days 20-24. Until I was about 46 periods al over the place - but 30 - 40 day cycle. So now have period for a week and pmt type stuff for a week every 4 weeks, ie 50% of my life! Can't wait for the menopause frankly.

I had my last two children at 40 and 45 so don't know if this has had any impact?

SecretWitch · 02/02/2014 01:57

Jayho, I had my last child at 42. Sonewhere around the age of 47 my periods got a tiny but funky and let me to believe I might be starting perimenopause.

This might be tmi(forgive me) it does seem the...erm..quality..of my menstrual blood has changed. I feel as if the lining of uterus could not support another pregnancy.

FracturedViewOfLife · 02/02/2014 02:30

I have an app on my iphone that is really good. The downside is I panic when I am a day or two late, but it is generally very helpful.

It also helped me realise than the shooting leg pain I was getting every month happened when I was ovulating.

Tiptops · 02/02/2014 02:53

I'm on the pill at the moment so know when I'm due by how many pills are left in my pack. But when I'm not taking the pill I mark which day I've come on in my diary with a little tick, and then count forwards 4 weeks and note I should be due on around then.

I was given a little chart all those years ago at school to track which days you're on and how heavy. Still do that now as I suffer with extremely bad periods and it's useful for doctor/ hospital appointments.

squoosh · 02/02/2014 03:35

I never used to remember till I downloaded an app to my phone.

wigglesrock · 02/02/2014 07:05

BertieBotts..... when I started having periods my mum gave me a pocket diary & drilled into me the importance of marking down the date my period started every month. Every year, even now (Im turning 40), my mum puts a diary in my stocking at Christmas Smile

Although the desperate headache 2 days before hand is also quite handy Hmm .

MarianneEnjolras · 02/02/2014 07:18

I do record mine on an app but every sodding month it arrives anywhere between 4 days late or 4 days early. I've even recording them on this app for 2 years and it still can't accurately predict when my next period will start because of my stupid cycle.

OpalQuartz · 02/02/2014 14:38

What app is it?

NotBrittaPieHonest · 02/02/2014 14:44

By 'accidents', do you mean you get blood on your knickers when it starts? Everyone does, surely?

I tend to feel heavier and more achy so I try to remember to carry stuff for it, then I feel it starting at some point, go to the loo, see the blood and sort myself out.

Am I different to normal?

NotBrittaPieHonest · 02/02/2014 14:49

Although I just mentioned this thread to my boyfriend, who paused for a moment to count in his head and told me I'm due on Tuesday. I do feel pre menstral now I think of it.

Strange man.

squoosh · 02/02/2014 14:58

The app I use is just called Period Tracker

play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.period.tracker.lite&hl=en_GB

DameDeepRedBetty · 02/02/2014 15:05

CouthyMow I used to use Always until they started to stink due to that awful perfume. Picked up some budget price supermarket ones and to my amazement they are fantastic.

thenamestheyareachanging · 02/02/2014 15:12

People record their periods? Wow, thirty five and I've never thought of that! I can never remember when it's due,and even when TTC I've never been able to remember the date of my LMP. I'm not a very organised person though, and I do carry tampons with me at all times.

bodygoingsouth · 02/02/2014 15:39

oh I never know, get dh to remind me from his phone.. he tracks if for me.

got a mirena now though so no periods now ha ha and yippee!!

I track teen dds though!

BertieBottsJustGotMarried · 02/02/2014 16:14

Haha, NotBritta, when DH and I first started dating and I wasn't on the pill, he always knew when I was due before I did - almost to the day, was freaky.

Couthy that's awful, can you see a different GP? I found "Cottons" a good brand of disposables as they don't add any perfumes and they're about the same price as normal Always. Also lil-lets pads are very good and non perfumey.

OpalQuartz · 02/02/2014 16:22

Thanks squoosh

ILoveDHIDo · 02/02/2014 17:06

I fucking hate periods. I am not looking forward to giving birth and dealing with them again..

But I always know, I wake up feeling like shit.

I also have an app which predicts them to the day and it was never wrong. 22 days in between each cycle

FracturedViewOfLife · 02/02/2014 17:46

Thats the app I use too Squoosh.

pointythings · 02/02/2014 19:12

I always have pads and tampons stored away in my handbag. It doesn't just help me, it's also useful when my colleagues get caught out.

BigBirthdayGloom · 02/02/2014 19:34

At the age of forty, I am surprised most times. Although recently I kind of get a feeling that sends me to the loo so less of an accident. I am also just about able to recognise pmt for what it is (everyone is being as annoying as usual only I can't deal with it!) rather than believing the world had become a hostile place peopled with fools hell bent on thwarting all my plans.

greenshine · 02/02/2014 19:46

My periods have never been regular but in the past few years they've been utterly unpredictable as I have a fibroid and am using two types of contraception. Each period lasts anywhere between 7-26 days as well. I use an Android phone tracker but even that just makes wild guesses at when the next one will start. I wear a menstrual cup every day throughout the month and panty liners, as I never know when my period will start. I find it helpful for collecting discharge between periods as well.

I'm quite lucky as I don't really have cramps or bloating though, my main pms symptom is grumpiness but it's everyone else who has to live with that! And I get grumpy for other reasons so not always a reliable predictor!
