.. to want to pay somebody to come do my ironing?

I work full time, commute 2 hours each way a day and spend about 25 minutes with my son a day. I'm happy enough to do housework over the weekend, but I absolutely loathe and detest ironing.. AIBU to hire somebody to do it for me once a week? Can't decide if I'm being lazy or justified.

Do it! Wish I could afford it!

Mintyy · 28/01/2014 20:21

Yanbu. Funny question.

MardyBra · 28/01/2014 20:22

I do it and I work fewer hours than you.

kennyp · 28/01/2014 20:23

i do ironing for a very nice lady once a week. gives me a fiver and gives me something to do when i'm watching real housewives of the orange county.

Littlegreyauditor · 28/01/2014 20:24

So totally justified. Ironing is the devil's work and life is too bloody short. If you can afford it, do it, and don't dare let anyone make you feel guilty about it!

CosyTeaBags · 28/01/2014 20:24

In my opinion, if you can afford it, and it would make your life better, bloody do it and never apologize.

This is exactly what money is for = making your life better.

Lottiedoubtie · 28/01/2014 20:24

Can you afford it?

Do you want to?

This isn't a moral issue.

Only1scoop · 28/01/2014 20:26

Yanbu at all....
I used to pay someone to do mine
Now DP does it....Grin

AHardDaysWrite · 28/01/2014 20:26

It's not a moral or feminist issue. Do it.

I work FT. I have two small children. I have a cleaner AND I send my ironing out. Makes life so much easier and gives us family time at the weekend.

1974rach · 28/01/2014 20:27

Good god!!! Absolutely do it! I had an ironing lady in the past and it was worth every penny.

No brainer - make the call Grin

DipMeInChocolate · 28/01/2014 20:28

I prefer cleaning the bathroom to ironing however to make it better for me I commandeered the sofa and TV put a movie on I like and sit in comfort and iron. Goes quicker imo.

goblindancer · 28/01/2014 20:29

Why dont you just iron as you need it? Then it takes no time? Dh irons his shirt each morning. Most of my clothes don't need ironed but if they do I just iron them before I put it on? If I ironed everything before I put it away I would probably need to iron it again before it was worn?!

HugoTheHippo · 28/01/2014 20:29

YANBU. DH does all his own ironing. I buy hardly anything that needs ironing and the few bits I have I leave out for the cleaner to do Blush. I too detest it. I mean, I'm not that keen on the rest of the housework either...

DipMeInChocolate · 28/01/2014 20:29

But yes if can afford it then do it.

SlightlyTerrified · 28/01/2014 20:31

I work 30 hrs plus voluntary work and DH works full time and we pay for 2 hours cleaning and about 3 hours ironing per week, I hate ironing especially as we have 15 shirts a week to ironing for the DCs school/DH work.

I don't want to spend my free time ironing and cleaning so we decided as soon as I finished on maternity leave we would do this straight away so we have never missed the money really either.

candycoatedwaterdrops · 28/01/2014 20:31

YAsooooNBU. I don't iron but if I was forced to -under duress then I would employ someone to do it for me. Wink

Bonsoir · 28/01/2014 20:31

Not remotely lazy or justified! Definitely get someone else to iron for you. I don't have your commute or job and spend lots of time with my family but I still outsource a lot of ironing.

DameEdnasBridesmaid · 28/01/2014 20:32

Justified. I pay a friend to do my ironing. It suits us both.

It has made a big difference to me. I could not keep on top of the ironing, no matter how I planned to ( do a bit each night etc.). The freedom from the pile of ironing looming is such a bloody relief.

It's worth every penny.

SlightlyTerrified · 28/01/2014 20:32

We could never iron as we go, I leave for work between 645 and 730 each day and the kids/DH leave between 715 and 815 every day. We would never be ready if we had to iron 3 shirts plus my stuff.

SarahAnderson · 28/01/2014 20:33

Why would this be remotely unreasonable?

runningonwillpower · 28/01/2014 20:33

Look at it this way, you are doing your bit for the economy if you pay someone else to do it.

Ironing is the pits. Why do it if you can spend that free time with you son?

AHardDaysWrite · 28/01/2014 20:34

We haven't got time in the mornings, plus if we tried to iron daily the board and iron would never be put away and there would be clothes everywhere.

MollyDoublyBarrely · 28/01/2014 20:34

Do it!!! I am considering a cleaner to do the other annoying chores because i really enjoy ironing

bellablot · 28/01/2014 20:34

Can you not just erm not do it...?

Lonelynessie · 28/01/2014 20:36

Ooh, if you're anywhere near me (London) I'll do it! I LOVE ironing, actually sometimes I spend my whole day off ironing EVERYTHING. I find it really relaxing, I put the tv or the radio on and that's it, heaven.
