to want everyone to stop using "naice"?

Justholdthesmile · 26/01/2014 23:31

It's a long running joke that really isn't funny anymore. and never was

To me it's as annoying as the phrase "did you mean to sound so rude?"

Finally "yoni" seems to have gone forever but this is lingering.

Note to anyone who uses it - it's not funny and it's certainly not original.

In Australia, or "straya" as we fondly know it we prefer "noice" perhaps that may be more appropriate to you?

Not4turning · 27/01/2014 02:58

Sadly I remember it from the Ham days. That was when this site wasn't so horribly overrun with 'naice' mothers trying to get one over on anyone they deemed a bit popular........Karma

IAmNotAPrincessIAmAKahleesi · 27/01/2014 03:00

So using 'foul language' makes you uneducated and immature?

Wow thank goodness you told us

meditrina · 27/01/2014 05:50

'naice' will never die out amongst Jilly Cooper fans.

It pre-dates MN and is bound to crop up here from time to time.

(I do think that '(lighthearted)' in a title is a vile neologism though, but wouldn't start a thread to slag it off).

Mia4 · 27/01/2014 08:48

Yadnbu about naice. I hate that word. I automatically think pretentious when I see someone use it. It reminds me of a very pretentious colleague who uses it (now I suspect she is a mn user) qnd she and it really annoy me. Although

LadyBeagleEyes · 27/01/2014 08:52

It's not pretentious, it's meant to be ironic, and a gentle piss take about people who speak like that in RL.

Mia4 · 27/01/2014 09:03

LadyBeagleEyes it can mean to be whatever you want that doesn't mean I don't look at it and think 'pretentious'. Irony works well sometimes, in this case it doesn't work at all for me.

As people can see by the 'irritating phrases' thread, different people get annoyed by different things. The OP is DNBU in my opinion, I hate naice and think it's pretentious, I ignore the word when used. The OP is BU to expect people not to say it though, I don't even expect my colleague to stop using it despite how unprofessional she makes an official document look.

The misspelling also annoys me and just seeing the word makes me think of the snobby woman that I have the misfortune to work with. She uses naice in all her emails and notes to the team.

Different stokes for different folks (and yes, that too is a hated phrase for some)

mrsjay · 27/01/2014 09:14

I never use it because i dont think i am in on the joke but i always hear it when it is written down in a vair posh voice I like it meh it is a joke

OH i use did you mean to be so rude on the daughters it stops them in their tracks it is genius imo

Crowler · 27/01/2014 09:33

I don't like vair.

How do you know if someone is using "naice" in real life? I'm confused. Is this a sort of caricature of an extremely posh accent?

ovenbun · 27/01/2014 09:39

Firstly, did you mean to be so rude?

Secondly naice yoni.

I don't think it's got to the stage where we need to ask if you're on glue or batshit crazy, but I love mn code and YABVU to try to stop it.

mrsjay · 27/01/2014 09:40

yeah just that really I have never heard anybody say naice in real life ever

NaiceAm · 27/01/2014 10:07

I am offended Grin hope you feel better soon OP

roundtable · 27/01/2014 10:14

Well the op got a good kicking didn't she? Over a trivial opinion.

So rude to bring up past threads and infer that the op is full of rage and mentally unstable because of a slightly misguided thread in some people's opinion.

I've read plenty of threads where people have said they don't like a particular word/s or phrases and they haven't received the viciousness op has.

Not cool.

RandyRudolf · 27/01/2014 10:28

Agree Roundtable

MeepMeepVrooooom · 27/01/2014 10:45

Ok I know it's Monday but bloody hell did everyone get out the wrong side of bed this morning?

lumpolead · 27/01/2014 11:14

thirded roundtable

i also dont think its that unreasonable to assume that someone who felt the need to mention a totally irrelevent previous thread of op, did so because they had searched the op's username. so no, it wasnt the op being illogical to think that. i also dont think its fair to accuse someone of spending too much time on MN when a thread as dull sounding (no offense, op) as the aforementioned could have such an impact that you memorise it for future reference Confused

but then i might be biased as i also find 'naice' about as funny as being told peter kaye's garlic bread joke for the 396th time. yawn.

magimedi · 27/01/2014 13:40

I've have often heard the word 'naice' used in real life - for many years, even before MN started.

HenriettaMaria · 27/01/2014 13:58

roundtable I think that the dictatorial tone of the OP annoyed people somewhat.

There are lots of things that annoy me on MN and in RL but, you know, I just get over myself and don't attempt to dictate what other people do.

OP, you don't find it amusing. So what?

As to it's not being original? Well, to use a very unoriginal phrase, there is nothing new under the sun really, is there?

FloweryFeatureWall · 27/01/2014 14:15

Please note I didn't accuse OP of spending too much time on here. She accused herself of that. And the Kristen Stewart thread didn't have "such an impact" that I memorised it. I can remember a lot of things I read on here, or in the paper or in books that are as dull as dishwater. Oh the pain of having a good memory Grin
