Myself and my Bf are having a discussion, I want to serve fondue at the next house party. Bf thinks fondue is not trendy antmore, is food for stoners and provides no sustenance. My argument is cheese and bread is perfect comfort food.

Who's being unreasonable?

I'm not aware of ever having it. Although I have stuck marshmallows and strawberries into chocolate?

Is it easy?

I love cheese and feel I have seriously missed out.

What is meat fondue?

I'd love to be invited to a fondue party so go for it op!

MaxPepsi - never had one, but I believe with a meat fondue you dunk chunks of assorted raw meat into hot oil (as opposed to bread into cheese) until it's cooked to your liking. I think it sounds a bit grim, but am prepared to be corrected!

With a meat fondue you can heat oil to a high temp and cook strips of steak quickly.

Or you can make a Chinoise broth and cook slices of chicken, pork, turkey, ostrich, beef etc.

MaxPepsi · 17/01/2014 18:46

Thank you.

I thought it was maybe dunking bits of salami or ham etc into the cheese but needing it be a different pot to the bread/veg cheese.

CMOTDibbler · 18/01/2014 08:44

I've never had the oil one, but the meat fondue with a pot of stock where you cook meat and veg in is really nice and v social

Just read your post OP and one need to have fondue tonight. Tons of cheese and bread, followed by a chocolate fondue with fruit dipped in for pudding. Who cares if it's trendy?? Nomnomnom!

WallyBantersJunkBox · 18/01/2014 12:33

Max you can dunk cubes of ham in a cheese one, also slices of apple, pear, celery and mushrooms.

I think meat tends to be avoided as it makes the whole fondue non-veggie?

whichdidyouchoose · 18/01/2014 13:24

Well, myself and my dh tend to love fondues, but I can't speak for anyone else.

Catypillar · 18/01/2014 13:30

I love fondue, hadn't had it for ages then a few weeks ago when DH and DS were away and I had to fend for myself I got a little individual fondue pot from M+S as a treat, so nice

XiCi · 18/01/2014 13:33

Anyone who wouldn't eat something delicious because they think it's not trendy is a complete twat.

thegraduand · 18/01/2014 13:39

The best meat fondue is if you use red wine and a little bit of stock and a few herbs. Use good beef and it's lovely
