I'm 22 and currently on the contraceptive implant. I've had it in about a year and a half and had no bleeding etc. Then, suddenly, two and a half weeks ago, bleeding.

What's even more frustrating is I have finally made the decision to do something serious about my (very very high) weight. I've lost three stone in a couple of months and am thrilled - as is my partner. BUT, since this bloomin' bleeding started, I'm bloated and full of water and have put three pounds on which is NOT shifting. Damnit, I am ON the stone (i.e. x stone 0 pounds) and I really wanna be in the next stone down!!!

I'm lucky enough that it's not bleeding heavily - mainly spotting - but it's the bloated, sluggy, water filled feeling. And my belly is poofing out like it used to and it was starting to look flatter =(

Sorry for being grumpy, DFiance is on nights and I'm this close to opening the bumper box of Thorntons truffles I have in the cupboard...

Urgh sounds grim. I think that cracking open the choccies may be the only answer for tonight but then i am bloody greedy if you can stop at say 4 or get DP to hide the rest.

It is possible that the implant no longer agrees with you. I am not by any stretch a medical person but can weight loss affect your hormones? I'd get to the docs for a discussion/review.

And bloody well done for losing all that weight!

RandomMess · 15/01/2014 22:32

Put the truffles away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Or in the bin! Do not succumb to the chocolate and sugar craving after doing so well Sad

BigArea · 15/01/2014 22:33

Don't listen to me OP they are right!

elfycat · 15/01/2014 22:35

Try to avoid the chocolates. In another day you will wee for England and the weight will go down by the amount you would normally lose AND the ghastly water retention amount. You'll zoom under that stone on the scales.

But I also know how bleh I feel, so if you do need a little chocolate that will be fine, as long as it's just a one off and you only do it occasionally. What about a lower cal choc drink and an early night with a book/knitting or whatever.

Thetallesttower · 15/01/2014 22:36

Yes, but underneath all that bloating, you are losing weight, real weight, not just water/bloat. Don't go for the chocolates or if you do, have one and then put them back.

You will feel terrible if you pig them all and you will have to diet loads all over again. Slow and steady wins the race with losing weight.

MissPryde · 15/01/2014 22:36

I'm by no means an expert here. But I should think that your body, and your contraception, is adjusting to your weight loss. Excellent job on losing three stone! I imagine this is very frustrating, but I would try to look at it as a sign of success. You're doing well! Don't let this be a setback.

The teeniest, tiniest women will have poofy bloaty bellies at times. It's part of our lot. It doesn't mean you're not doing fantastic. Keep on going! Drink lots of water to battle the bloat. It'll clear up eventually, you'll melt the water weight away and have a nice loss.

wontletmesignin · 15/01/2014 22:43

I am at the opposite end. I am trying to put weight on.
I got the bloated belly, and i was so irritated by this (feeling i wasnt getting an even spread), i almost gave up my mission to gain weight.

But the bloated belly is just temporary. I think its off the change of everything. Within a couple of days, mine had gone down and i was then annoyed at how i almost stopped trying.

Dont give in to the chocs. You will feel bad about it tomorrow.

As for the implant. As somebody has already said - it will probably be down to your weight change, and it will be adjusting.

You are doing very well. You can and will lose that extra stone. Just dont give up, and give those chocolates to me throw them out.

wyldchyld · 15/01/2014 22:54

Thank you everyone for keeping me going! I opened the chocs - then put the lid back on and put them back in the cupboard. Levrette - they were a Christmas present from the BIL who doesn't know I'm healthy eating. I know what's doing in my head but that frustration of being "stuck" made me go "well, it doesn't bloody matter cause I'm not losing!"

I'm thinking there may be something in the body adjusting to new weight etc. It isn't uncommon to have occasional prolonged bleeding with this bloomin' thing so I'm not too worried yet.

I'm chomping a kiwifruit instead. And actually quite enjoying it! This is a massive thing - six months ago, it'd have been the chocs / toast / takeaway / chips, anything I could lay my hands on. I'm quite proud of me =)

Good luck, *wontletmesignin" - you can have my chocs ;). And there's rather a lot more than another one stone to lose - fingers crossed I'll be here in a year as a whole half a woman (or even better haha)

Well done on losing the weight.

Do you have a gym membership/go to any exercise classes? They could be a good distraction, weight loss tool, and get you away from the choccies!

wyldchyld · 15/01/2014 23:34

Splasheeny - I have funny hours with uni / work / OH's hours (and am strapped for cash cause of wedding in June) so I have a static bike in the basement instead which I try to use. For me, it's been a lot more "have it, but have a tiny bit rather than a whole box" and - touchwood - seems to be working!

Now if someone could build me a swimming pool, I'd be over the moon!

I don't think you need to (wo)man up, you're doing fantastically well already!

I bet you're under the stone any minute.

wyldchyld · 16/01/2014 02:14

Thank you weebles! Here's hoping!

Perfectly normal to have abnormal bleeding during weightloss as the loss of fat cells frees up estrogen.

If you are concerned, see your doctor

wyldchyld · 17/01/2014 15:34

Just to update, and as a massive thank you - the bleeding has almost stopped AND I got on the scales this morning and am 4lbs down!!

Thank you all!!!!

BigArea · 17/01/2014 18:01

Fab Smile well done

Tulip26 · 17/01/2014 19:50

Well done. The implant didn't agree with me. I was bleeding constantly (six weeks on, one week off, another six weeks on), I put on a stone and went up two bra sizes!

RandomMess · 17/01/2014 20:24

Fantastic news.

Chuck the chocs in the bin or freeze most of them so you can't ever over indulge and eat them in one go???

BigArea · 17/01/2014 20:29

Random freezing chocolates is a genius idea

wyldchyld · 20/01/2014 15:53

Ooooh, I like that idea Random, thank you!

Fudgeface123 · 20/01/2014 16:04

I had the implant, was fine for 2 weeks and then bled heavily for 3 months solid....I begged them to take it out.

I now have the depo injection and life is wonderful again

ItsATIARA · 20/01/2014 16:09

If DH works in an office then get him to take them in to share around - they can be a problem for his colleagues' diets. Or freezing them is good.

Have a herbal tea.
