Will ask my orthopaedic surgeon when I see him next week has he any other suggestions as how to carry my bag would obviously rather annoy my spinal curvature and rods than look like a moron. I not as sheep by the way and have carried my handbag like that for years, obviously I'm just an unknown trend setter. Tried over my shoulder but with my misshapen body and unequal legs I look like a bigger idiot when I landed on my arse.

I don't care which appendage they hang them from but those MASSIVE handbags that are horrible and look ridiculous.

I've been away for a week and taken a smaller bag than some of those Confused

You'd look back and laugh if you carried your bag like this though.

it was indeed aimed at the groups of girls who look like mrs Beckham

I have always laughed at the daft bints with their bags like this tottering along on really high heels, with the white iPhone 5 and matching hairdos and enormous eyebrows - how easily they could be mugged, if only the muggers could stop laughing at silly they look!

God. I'm in my mid 30s, look nothing like Victoria Beckham and often find myself carrying my bag this way, mostly because it's slipped off my shoulder cos I have weirdly slopey shoulders. If you add winter coat plus suit, it happens a lot. Plus, it gives you the chance to rest your shoulder for a bit.

Don't say put on your other shoulder, by the way. My other shoulder can't keep a bag on it for more than 5 seconds. It's fucking irritating. And holding the bag by the handle is stupid.

Christ. People get worked up by this? Seriously?

Amen, Jassy.

I have never owned a handbag, and never plan on doing so. I use a rucksack, a decent one that I can barely feel on my back even when it is full with shopping.

I don't understand why so many women need to carry big bags at all?

I'm 40, I've only ever need my keys, debit card and some money. Anything I need goes in my pockets, I don't even own a purse. I Certainly don't need a handbag and wouldn't want one.

Right. You don't need to carry shit around but does that make it so strange that other people do?

Just when you thought everyone's judgy pants were hoiked so high that their eyes would be covered...they're looking out of a leg hole and forming an opinion on the way you transport your personal belongings around!

Joysmum - I'll bite. when not on mat leave (I'm currently toting a huuugggeee bag but that's full of nappies, wipes, pots of baby and toddler friendly foods and bottles and formula for my FF baby, mussies, plus changes of clothes for 2DCs who are incapable of staying clean for 2 minutes) my bag taken to work contains:
purse
keys
phone
book for reading on train
pack of tissues
travel card
lunch box (I can't justify spending the best part of a tenner a day buying stuff for lunch when I have a full fridge)
smart work shoes (I'll travel in to work in trainers as I can't walk more than 10 minutes in heels, but I need to dress in grown up shoes for work)
Small make up bag (I'm that woman who doesn't have time to do her make up in the morning so does it on the train)

I don't do travelling light!

Oh, I forgot umbrella! I also carry a small fold up umbrella.

Mind you, this isn't a female only thing, I can't remember the last time I saw a bloke on the commute not carrying a bag of some sort. (I also think some men carry around more shit than woman because they have great big laptop bags and feel the need to fill them)

I always thought they did it because they have large upper arms and the handles don't fit... but I don't really care and I'd notice the bag, not the method of carting it about.

It's just so stupidly impractical.

How are you supposed to use your hand if you need to have it floating pretentiously in mid-air in order to keep your bag balanced?

I do just cringe when I see silly girls prancing down the street looking like shop mannequins.

DD carries her school bag like this, won't put it on her shoulder. It's a big pointy one. One thigh is covered with bruises front and back from where she gets knocked in corridors. She then complains about them

Just checked my hand bag. Make up bag, purse, nappies, wipes, change of clothes for toddler rarely needed as long as I have phone and keys are always on my person if possible.

I have narrow, slopey shoulders and bags fall off. I tend to carry across my body, even though I am large of boobage and men stare. I don't carry it over elbow, it would feel weird and it does look silly though I think young girls can get away with it in the interests of fashion. I've also wondered how people carry their baby seats in their elbow. I'm pretty sure my arms would have snapped if I did that.

I do it so that everyone I walk past has a good chance of noticing that my bag cost £2k. If I'm going to spend it you might as well admire it.

Oh and it is a double whammy because the hand floating in the air bit allows me to wave my nice diamond ring at you Grin

I think you will find it's women and young lady's of all ages and not just 'silly girls, bints and morons'
Fashion isn't meant to suit everyone that's why there are different styles etc
You may think it looks ridiculous but I'm sure there are things you wear/the way in which you dress that other people dislike

For £2K I'd expect it to come with someone to carry it for you property!

Aw, thanks Beeyump.

My bag does double duty for work and leisure. It needs to be able to fit small laptop or tablet, wallet, two phones, a small tube of moisturiser, lipstick, gloves and hat in winter, toddler snacks for nursery pickup, keys, various security passes, occasionally sanitary wear. Today it also seems to have tissues, a small umbrella and some briefing papers.

I have an hour's commute each way. I have a visible role and a rucksack would be hopelessly inappropriate even if it were practical - I need to be able to get at my phones quickly and prefer to have them in my bag if I'm not wearing zip up pockets.

My point being that some posters' lives and needs may be admirably simple and they happily carry very little with them and/or always wear clothes with pockets. Others have quite different lives and lifestyles and judging people for having a handbag, let alone giving a flying fuck about how they carry it, makes you look insular, weird, or both.

Ach, typed all that and only JUST noticed my handbag was on my elbow again. I'm going to get weirdly aware and paranoid about this now, aren't I?

john did you actually look at the pic properly before you linked it? If you did you will notice how small the handles are making it uncomfortable to wear over the shoulder
These style of bags are designed to be worn this way
