Huge heavy handbags....this cannot be comfortable or even good for you...

My granny with her cats bum faced used to carry a bug handbag this way...

Kids these days eh...harrumph etc

I don't get how it's a "fashion trend" the handbags themselves are surely the fashion trend. The way we hold them is just the comfiest way to hold them.

Juno77 · 14/01/2014 15:20

citrus and painty what are you on about?!

Women have been carrying bags like this for years, centuries! Actually, carrying your bag over the body with a long strap is a more 'fashionable' way, as it wasn't how victorians did it.

I'm really confused as to how this is at all 'fashion'?!

LRDtheFeministDragon · 14/01/2014 15:23

I have never been quite as bemused by a MN thread before.

SharpLily · 14/01/2014 15:24

I do this but am not young and had no idea this is apparently a trend among young people. I take my lead from the Queen.

Juno77 · 14/01/2014 15:25

LRD I have to agree. This is the most Confused I have ever been at a thread. And I have been here 10 years.

Is this a joke? Am I missing something?

Beeyump · 14/01/2014 15:29

I'm just going to add my Confused face. Why, but WHY, will I look back and blush at the way I carried my bag?

BookWorm37 · 14/01/2014 15:31

This really annoys me too. The perpetrator is usually doing a silly quick-stepping walk too and has bun right on top of their head.

jigsawlady · 14/01/2014 15:35

Haha I love this - take my lead from the Queen Grin

Nancy66 · 14/01/2014 15:35

Carrying a bag on you arm is a fashion?

wigglybeezer · 14/01/2014 15:53

I assume it's so that they can keep both hands free for texting, can 't do that when holding your bag by the handles. I think it contributes to the helpless female look, along with high heels, and hair and make up that can't survive weather.

wigglybeezer · 14/01/2014 15:53

I forgot false nails!

Beeyump · 14/01/2014 15:54
Angry
Wuxiapian · 14/01/2014 15:58

It's "fashionable" and thus, looks daft.

GhostsInSnow · 14/01/2014 16:03

Another 'moron' here. I have a curve in my spine, my bag is heavy. Carrying it on my shoulder tends to put weight onto my spine causing me some serious pain whichever shoulder I use. I carry it on the crook with my arm forward, a lot easier for me.

MacaYoniandCheese · 14/01/2014 16:10

Depends on the bag and whatever else you're wearing. YABU.

glasgowsteven · 14/01/2014 16:20

This is not a joke thread.

Unless I have missed something, all of a sudden there are gaggles of girls between 15 and 25 who all hold handbags like this, I say hand bags they are bigger than most gym bags!

I am glad I am not alone in thinking it looks silly....

OP posts:
Juno77 · 14/01/2014 16:22

Um, there's also thousands of women, of all ages who also carry their handbags in this way.

Because it's normal.

Kewcumber · 14/01/2014 16:25

Why does how you hold a bag make you look silly? Confused

Good lord just when I thought there was nothing left to judge people about....

Kewcumber · 14/01/2014 16:26

I have arthritis in my collar bone and sternum on one side - I hold my bag however its possible that day... if thats OK with you of course

johnworf · 14/01/2014 16:30

I think the OP is talking about the exaggerated upturned hand/clenched fist that's outstretched, that goes with the handbag in the crook of the arm. May have started with V Beckham.

Joysmum · 14/01/2014 16:31

I don't understand why so many women need to carry big bags at all?

I'm 40, I've only ever need my keys, debit card and some money. Anything I need goes in my pockets, I don't even own a purse. I Certainly don't need a handbag and wouldn't want one.

MeepMeepVrooooom · 14/01/2014 16:33

Looks like VB is just getting ready to clock someone who questions the way she holds her bag...

What a bizarre thread, really can't imagine why someone would be irritated by this Confused

Beeyump · 14/01/2014 16:33

Good for you Hmm

Beeyump · 14/01/2014 16:33

That was to Joysmum...
