Washing lines

We live in a new estate, we were one if the first in and have been in about 2 years. In our missives it states we can only have a whirligig washing line.

We have 2 new neighbours (moved in in September) both have washing lines with poles strung across their gardens I am 99% sure their missives are the same as ours.

It irritates me they aren't following the missives, should I leave it alone or complain to the builders. (I know this is a bit petty)

I rent out a flat with a few obscure ones. I went over them briefly with my tenant in case the management company ever decided to enforce the ones that loads of other residents are breaking. My favourite was that that you aren't allowed to hang laundry out of the windows to dry - the flats have floor to ceiling windows that open a few inches and massive velux's.

We have some 'interesting' missives in our deeds along with the usual no caravans/no sky dishes to the front etc, we are not allowed fences or other erections forward of the building line. I have to be careful what I wear when we go out so DH doesn't unwittingly break that one!

Some missives have a time limit on them. It MAY be the case that the builders didn't want "proper" washing lines while they were still trying to sell the flats. Now they are sold, YOUR missive may be out dated. I have to admit, that at this point I would check the small print, then go round and ask them what their missives said and put up my own line!

Some rules are just there to be laughed at/broken.

Adhering to some of them would be pedantic beyond belief.

I never heard of washing lines being forbidden in people's garden. If I had such a rule applied to my house then I would flout it, as would just about all of my neighbours.

When we were buying our house I was sent to the planning office to check there were no conservation area or other missives in force. The nearby area if outstanding natural beauty has all sorts of barmy rules and busy bodies who report you.

The lady in the planning office looked at me an grinned, "we haven't got enough staff to start having village conservation plans for places with 5 houses"!
