Washing lines

eltsihT · 13/01/2014 12:11

We live in a new estate, we were one if the first in and have been in about 2 years. In our missives it states we can only have a whirligig washing line.

We have 2 new neighbours (moved in in September) both have washing lines with poles strung across their gardens I am 99% sure their missives are the same as ours.

It irritates me they aren't following the missives, should I leave it alone or complain to the builders. (I know this is a bit petty)

Plant some trees? I'm suggesting (in the nicest possible way) that you need some perspective. Fast!

RobinSparkles · 13/01/2014 12:34

Mind you, maybe chickens are noisy?

Next door but one has a washing line AND a whirly!

Starballbunny · 13/01/2014 12:34

Washing line vs whirly gig! Fight, fight, fight! Grin

I think we live in quite a petty estate, missives have been enforced, one for works vans and one for hedges.

Just the unevenness of the application of the missives annoys me.

It genuinely pisses me off. I am quite happy to be told to leave it well alone though

just get yourself a proper washing line and chill out.

notso · 13/01/2014 12:38

Are you jealous because you followed the ridiculous rules so are stuck with a crappy, rotary line and a hole in the lawn. While the neighbours have their long, elegant, efficient washing lines the dirty bastards.

JinglingRexManningDay · 13/01/2014 12:41

Robin I have a whirly and a proper line. Nothing beats the sight of bedsheets flapping in the wind.

Grumbliest · 13/01/2014 12:42

Put your own washing line up..stupid builders making random rules. You'll forget about your neighbours then.

Finola1step · 13/01/2014 12:42

In all seriousness though, minor missives over time get over looked. When we bought out house just over a year ago, there was a missive written fifty five years ago that no one on the estate was allowed a garden shed!

We all have garden sheds. Every garden I can see from my upstairs window has got at least one shed. The neighbour that backs on to us has got two sheds and a greenhouse.

As long as your neighbours are not coming into your garden to dry their washing on your whirly gig, what's the problem? Unless of course you are building up to being one if those neighbours who makes a mental note of those who do not get their windows cleaned regularly, count the plant pots in front gardens etc.

It's not always the builders fault. In our case the local council did come round and check periodically, and they enforced the missives. They put the conditions on when they granted planning permission for the estate to be built (in a conservation area).

Is this the Police force where you live?

Botanicbaby · 13/01/2014 12:54

OP I think you have been scarred from your previous washing line experiences. Didn't realise there was form on this subject.

You are still BU tho. These are new neighbours, they might even be really really nice Smile

dannydyerismydad · 13/01/2014 12:58

I'm not allowed to turn my house into a pub, nor am I to sell it for less than £2. Thankfully I can display my undergarments in my own garden however I wish.

nvrgooglenkdShiaLaBoeuffTigga · 13/01/2014 12:59

I use to work for a company that managed managing companies on behalf of estates. This, right here, is why I left.

On my last day I was required to send a letter to a household to remove a 6 inch white picket fence around a lawn.

This?Really?Tiggaxx

Icelollycraving · 13/01/2014 13:02

I do actually understand why you are pissed off. I don't agree but I do get it. Our old flat had loads of rules but every other flat tenant completely disregarded them. It drove dh nuts,he turned into a complete embarrassment, forever phoning the maintenance company grassing people up.
Op,don't do anything, pick your battles. It's not worth upsetting an otherwise good neighbour over this nonsense.

pictish · 13/01/2014 13:05

Washing line vs whirly gig! Fight, fight, fight!
Finola that made me laugh out loud. Grin

OP - with all due respect, my eyes just rolled right out of my head and along the floor at this.
So they broke the stupid washing line rule...you really do not need to report their outrageous rebellion to anyone.
It's a washing line.
And relaaaaax.

eltsihT · 13/01/2014 13:07

Tigga what you needed was mumsnet to tell everyone to get over themselves.

When I posted I knew I was being petty ,and my dh has told me to get over it too. It's good to hear so many people tell me I am being unreasonable and need to get a grip!

It grates in me when people don't follow rules, i often wonder where I come in the autistic spectrum.

There won't be washing line wars in this case, but I don't think I have it in me to break the rules myself!

Joysmum · 13/01/2014 13:12

We weren't allowed to deliberately flood the ground floor of our first house. It was all hubby and I could do to stop ourselves deliberately flooding the first floor and that wasn't forbidden Grin

We also weren't allowed to put rags down the toilet!

Viviennemary · 13/01/2014 13:12

Washing lines don't particularly bother me. I have one but I rarely use it. But the point is these people are breaking the guidelines. So what on earth is the point of having these guidelines if they aren't enforced. I'd ring the builders if it bothers you.

sonlypuppyfat · 13/01/2014 13:15

Bastard scumbags who do they think they are! Wink

pictish · 13/01/2014 13:16

Fucking anarchists!!

KickassCoalition · 13/01/2014 13:16

But but but, you can do it too! Get a retractable line and hook the end to the top of your spinny line and tadaaaaa!

When the many builders come round you can ping the line back and put it back when they have gone!
