In not usually a Joey, I will share food however...

I've bought a few multi packs of chocolate. My oh has put them in the fridge.

Why?

I get the Rage with that slimming products telly advert that talks about "munching chocolate".

If you are "munching" on chocolate you are doing it wrong.

I used to work in a gourmet chocolate shop as a student. We had a special fridge for the chocolate storage, which was kept at about 10-15 degrees IIRC. A domestic fridge should be around 5 degrees, which is too cold. At that temperature the different solids in the chocolate start to separate and you get that weird white fur on it which is the fat splitting out. The reason chocolate is so nice is that it melts just below body temperature and therefore coats the tastebuds glossily. Crunching into it at five degrees is like cooking steak well done - people do do it, but it's a waste.

For this reason also any ice cream with chocolate chunks is an abomination. It just gets stuck in your teeth.

The only chocolate bars that should be kept in a fridge are Lions or Toffee Crisps - setting the toffee hard so it cracks. The thinness of the chocolate layer means it melts quickly enough.

AbbeyBartlet · 10/01/2014 19:01

No - it shouldn't be in the fridge, it should be in the freezer! I hate warm chocolate, it should be hard enough to nearly break your teeth!

AbbeyBartlet · 10/01/2014 19:05

And you have to eat it quickly before it melts !

StraightLineOfResignation · 10/01/2014 19:07

caramel bars should be in the fridge! by law!

normal chocolate can slum it in the cupboard!

PeanutPatty · 10/01/2014 19:08

YABHU

It should be illegal NOT to keep it in the fridge.

SingingGerbil · 10/01/2014 19:09

YADBU, a large toblerone straight from the fridge is the best thing ever Grin

MsColour · 10/01/2014 19:10

My ex used to put chocolate in their fridge - drove me mad. Glad I don't have to endure it now.

SirChenjin · 10/01/2014 19:12

YANBU - chocolate should be soft, not brick hard and freezing cold.

BabyMummy29 · 10/01/2014 19:14

Don't understand why people put chocolate in the fridge unless in extremely hot weather.

It ends up like a brick and hurts your teeth when you bit into it. Why would you want that?

VulvaVoom · 10/01/2014 19:14

YANBU. DH puts all chocolate in the fridge, I hate it and leave my out. Give me a room temp bit of gooey choc over cold and hard any day.

prettybird · 10/01/2014 19:21

Some chocolate is better in the fridge, some is better at room temperature.

Dh always keeps maltesers in the fridge and they're yummy (especially if served with ice cream Grin). My "healthy" Wink dark chocolate is best at cool room temperature.

Terry's chocolate oranges never last long enough to be stored anywhere! Grin

Peppermint Crisps (a South African delicacy) are best straight from the fridge.

Truffles of any sort are best at room temperature.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 10/01/2014 19:26

There is no house in the UK warm enough to warrant having the chocolate or the nutella in the fridge. Actually it is too cold where I am to have it at room temperature. dreaming of a chocolate cellar at 22, I might live in there too

Saucia · 10/01/2014 19:27

I put chocolate (wrapped) under my thighs until it goes all warm and squished. People who put chocolate in.the.fridge are bizarre and not to be trusted.

AntoinetteCosway · 10/01/2014 19:31

YANBU. Fridge chocolate is oh so wrong. Both my DM and DH put it in the fridge. Weirdos...

Longdistance · 10/01/2014 19:39

Yanbu. It goes in the cupboard. If dh buys me a bar, he puts it in the fridge.

When we lived in Oz, we had no choice but to put it in the fridge. It tasted shit either way as they put extra preservatives in it to not melt, but it still did and tasted cack.

MissMogwi · 10/01/2014 19:43

YANBU. DP does this, it is one of his few flaws.

It tastes horrible and plasticky and he is wronger than a wrong thing in my professional opinion.

Binkyridesagain · 10/01/2014 19:47

Snickers and mars bars should only be eaten frozen, if you don't have access to a freezer than you can use a fridge at a push, they should never ever by eaten at room temperature.

All other chocolate, can be eaten at room temperature if there is no alternative otherwise it must be chilled.

complexnumber · 10/01/2014 19:51

I live in a hot climate, chocolate just has to be chilled.

I also like all my biscuits to be chilled as well. A chocolate digestive is a completely different biscuit once it has been cooled to a decent fridge temp.

(Day time temp here rarely drops below 20)

CouthyMow · 10/01/2014 20:07

Yuck fridge chocolate it should be room temperature.

MummyPig24 · 10/01/2014 20:11

Chocolate should absolutely be kept in the fridge. Nice and crisp and not claggy.

Twooter · 10/01/2014 20:14

Yadnbu, you can only taste it if it's warm.

Although over Xmas I have somehow become addicted to chocolate dipped in hot chocolate for the ultimate taste sensation

MojitoMadness · 10/01/2014 21:44

My chocolate goes in the freezer, I hate warm/room temperature chocolate I can't eat it.

GoldenGytha · 10/01/2014 21:51

Yeuuchh to fridge chocolate,

Chocolate should only ever be eaten at room temperature.

mamachelle · 10/01/2014 22:52

Chocolate definitely belongs in the fridge (or the freezer if you want to eat it quicker).

I want chocolate now.

Permanentlyexhausted · 11/01/2014 00:18

YANBU.

DH puts chocolate in the fridge and it's sacrilege! What makes chocolate so pleasurable is that it melts immediately at human body temperature but it can only do that if it starts at room temperature; otherwise it takes too long and the pleasure has gone. And it hurts my teeth!
