To banish playmobil from our house?

DD1 just doesn't seem to play with the stuff, it is too small and too fiddly.
The stuff we got her two Christmas's ago sit in their box, the fiddly knights/princesses etc rarely see the inside of her wooden castle.

Wishing I had just got her lots of new Schleich figures as they always get played with, look fab and realistic and don't have teeny-tiny pieces to lose.

Shall I round it all up and sell what we have or keep it for DD2 (18 months)?

Anyone done a successful playmobil banishment?

Ah, you need the Playmo zoo or safari or farm stuff then... Wink

So it's practice at constructing I need so I can just dismantle it all. I was hoping someone was going to have some sort of magic system which took up no room but meant no dismantling.

Large bits in ikea baskets or storage boxes; small bits in clear plastic takeaway boxes our local Indian gives us. Stackable and fit in the bigger storage with their respective castle/safari vet/ farm/fire station/ spaceship if you're lucky

Big castle has been played with for three years now, not broken. My three are like a gang of toy test pilots so that's saying something ...

YABVU. Playmobil is our best "pound per play" toy ever...l.my 9 & 7 yr olds still play with it constantly. it now stars in their VidoeStar & stop motion videos!

Norman - I can't actually find our set on ebay but I'm sure you are right - I might let DS fit it all together and sell it himself, that's a good summer holiday project for him!! You can tell he was my PFB, God only knows how much I spent on all the extra track etc….

I hate the stuff. The bits, oh god the bits. For some reason Lego is fine to me but I hate bloody Playmobil.

MatildaWhispers · 12/01/2014 11:01

Yabu. I am only on MN now because my 3 are immersed in the stuff.

ScarletLady02 · 12/01/2014 11:02

DD is JUST getting into Playmobil and I'm over the moon about it! My parents kept all the stuff we played with and so I have it all now. Some of the figures have the date 1974 stamped on their feet. They're in perfect condition. We have a hospital set, ambulance, cowboys and Indians with a stagecoach and tepee, school set, playground set....Literally a HUGE box full of stuff...I can't wait to properly go through it all

EndoplasmicReticulum · 12/01/2014 11:04

Same happened here, my children just didn't play with it. Lego gets played with lots, Schleich figures too, but for some reason they weren't interested in the Playmobil.

I sold it on ebay.

We only kept the dinosaur.

thegreylady · 12/01/2014 11:13

I love Playmobil myself and have a collection of my own. My grandchildren love it too and have lots of their own. If you want to get rid of yours pm me and I might buy it!

gemmaj66 · 12/01/2014 11:23

You haven't lived until you've had a playmobil cannon ball stuck up your left nostril! Grin

Currently expecting DS4. DS3 is 19 and I think he's more excited about the prospect of reliving his playmobil years very soon than he is about his new brother!

Starballbunny · 12/01/2014 11:30

Toys are stupidly child dependent.
I loved Lego, DDs don't touch it.

In fact, DD1 really didn't do toys at all.

DD2 loves playmobil (and even at 12 has the odd very sneaky play).

Onelittlebugbear · 12/01/2014 11:36

My ds is hit and miss with playmobil.

We have lots of the dinosaurs and they gets loads of play, but he doesn't bother much with the foliage fiddly tree bits. He likes the volcano though.

However I sold the camper van because he ignored it and he also has a police van, western wagon and fire engine which I might sell because they are largely ignored. Also ignored is a take and play vet clinic. He does like the swimming pool but only as much as he'd like a bowl of water to splash around in. So generally apart from the dinosaurs he doesn't bother with it. But I would recommend the dinosaurs to anyone, they're great!

Nerfmother · 12/01/2014 13:52

Interesting. I'm about to clean all the playmobil and sell it. Does it go really easily? Camper van, house, meerkats, loads of people and their weird wigs - it's all over the place!

We bought DD3 the zoo, vets and animal care centre for Xmas. Never had any playmobil with other, now older, DD's so thought we'd try something different. Spent ages putting it all together Xmas day and she didn't give it a second glance! It's all packed away again and I'll try again in a few weeks. She's played loads with Happyland, peppa pig sets, schleich but playmobil really isn't doing it at the moment! DD3 is 4 by the way.
