To banish playmobil from our house?

DD1 just doesn't seem to play with the stuff, it is too small and too fiddly.
The stuff we got her two Christmas's ago sit in their box, the fiddly knights/princesses etc rarely see the inside of her wooden castle.

Wishing I had just got her lots of new Schleich figures as they always get played with, look fab and realistic and don't have teeny-tiny pieces to lose.

Shall I round it all up and sell what we have or keep it for DD2 (18 months)?

Anyone done a successful playmobil banishment?

I'd keep it...how old is DD1? Only ask because Playmobil only really came into its own around age 5 for my DD. Before that it was fiddly bits everywhere and she didn't really have the imaginative skills needed to have fun with it. She still plays with it a lot now (8) and DS (5) also enjoys it.

HeinzDoofenshmirtz · 09/01/2014 18:33

The figures are for the kids, the fiddly accessories etc are for the grown ups when they're playing setting up the scene and what not.

Tut Hmm

notso · 09/01/2014 18:38

DS2 got the Campervan for Christmas. He was 3 last month. He really wanted the pink Daisy one from ELC but DH is a cock in that respect, and said it was too girly Hmm PlayMobil was the only other one I could find.
It's the first PlayMobil we have had. DS loves it although we have had to strip it of all the mouth sized parts of which there were many. It does come apart easily which is annoying and the girl got trodden on by me has had a terrible accident and now has one leg!

coco44 · 09/01/2014 18:38

How old is your DC?
I found mine liked it best from about 6-10yrs old

Perspective21 · 09/01/2014 18:48

In my experience of my own DC s and other families, Playmobil is like marmite! My DCs loved theirs and played for hours but we do know children who just didn't do anything with it.

Sell it, let an enthusiast love it and start again with DC 2 with toys that appeal to DD2, win/win Smile

Kveta · 09/01/2014 18:57

My DS loves his playmobil, he has an aeroplane, helicopter, rubbish bin, camper van, and swimming pool, so can recreate an entire family holiday now! (Family flies overseas, goes to swimming pool in camper van, has accident which requires rescue by helicopter, and father recalls that he forgot to put the bins out before setting off. According to DS)

He is just 4, and finds Lego too fiddly, but playmobil is just right for him.

I'd keep it for your younger child, then flog it if she doesn't like it. Some of your sets may be out of print, so to speak, by then, and thus command higher prices on eBay!

Rollermum · 09/01/2014 19:00

Oh no! I loved playmobil as a child and am impatient to get some for DD. She's 15 weeks so I have a while to wait!

I was just assuming she'd love it...sad day to realise she may not. Grin

I can't believe you made Norm do the :( face.

I can't wait until my DS is big enough to enjoy playmo!

NormanTheForeman · 09/01/2014 19:25

Oh dear Notso, you can glue the leg back on again you know, with superglue. A similar fate happened to my mate Bossy Ross when Grandad stood on him, but he spent some time being superglued in the Playmobil hospital, and now he only wobbles slightly when he stands up...

TheNightIsDark · 09/01/2014 19:29

I spent hours setting ours up Boxing Day. The kids moved things, there's native Americans tending to injured giraffes, penguins that have absconded from their pool and are mingling at the human pool.

It's fucking carnage. They've even invited sylvanians to join in Hmm

NormanTheForeman · 09/01/2014 19:35

Most of the scenes here seem to end up with the arrival of the police and rescue services... Hmm

mrspremise · 09/01/2014 19:36

Mine go through phases of not playing with it at all for ages and then they remember it and it's like they have new toys! Every single time! We have most of the undersea stuff, which is ACE, plus a few town/city bits. Plus the Playmobil 1-2-3 zoo, which both DC (7 & 9) still love. Ask them about getting rid, they might 'remember' it and start playing with it loads

TheNightIsDark · 09/01/2014 19:39

DS is coveting the fire and police range. I want the campervan. DD wants the pony farm.

I love the stuff.

Tidypidy · 09/01/2014 19:39

Yanbu. Can't stand the bloody

Tidypidy · 09/01/2014 19:40

Whoops! Can't stand playmobil in our house. Too many tiny bits and it falls apart just looking at it.

petitdonkey · 09/01/2014 19:44

I want my children to love Playmobil but they don't really Sad

We have the princess castle which has never been played with but I would struggle to find all the bits to sell it. DS used to really like the fire station and police stuff but, again - do I flog it all now? A bit of me is holding on to it all for grandchildren…. My costliest purchase was the train set which, when I get around to it, will be a super bargain for someone on ebay!

I'm still going though and DD2 got some for Christmas but they love the Sylvanians more sob

Lilicat1013 · 09/01/2014 20:15

My son likes Playmobil, he is also autistic so he takes every single tiny piece and lines it up. A useful way of keeping him occupied for ages.

He got the little penguin pool set for Christmas, he was delighted at making the penguins splash, then every other single Playmobil animal or person splash. He got quite annoyed when the Playmobil triceratops wouldn't fit in the pool.

I would suggest keeping it for your youngest, you can always sell it on later if she isn't keen.

fuckinghatehim · 09/01/2014 20:26

Playmobil lovers in this house 2. Dc are 9 and 7. we have lots and it gets played with most days. On fact ds2 currently insists on taking the brachiosoraus to bed Confused Grin

although I do know one mum who's ds loves his playmobil, but from the way she goes on you'd think he was the only child ever to mix and match the sets. And Idont care if some of his playmobil was his sisters, and you bought it 10 years ago, some of my dcs was mine and about 25 years old
Sorry that's been bugging me for ages! Blush

NormanTheForeman · 09/01/2014 20:34

petitdonkey your train set will sell for loads on eBay. Those things go for a lot of money, especially if the set is complete or almost complete and you have the instructions. We have been trying for ages to get an obsolete train carriage we want, but it always goes for loads more than we would be prepared to pay!

notso · 09/01/2014 20:40

I will glue send her to Hospital Norman DS3 20months loves little people. He keeps picking her up and "oh no! ouch!"

NormanTheForeman · 09/01/2014 21:09

Oh good, Notso! Bossy Ross recommends the treatment Wink...

WicketWoo · 09/01/2014 21:33

Can I please ask some of you playmobil fans how you store stuff. We have lots, inc the school, holiday villa and pony stables and I just can't figure out a good way to store it all so that it isn't either, all over the floor or taken apart after each play.

Any tips welcomed.

Mim78 · 09/01/2014 21:35

You think playmobil is fiddly? Have you seen Sylvanian families?

NormanTheForeman · 09/01/2014 21:57

Umm, large playroom and lots of big boxes! But we are now very good at constructing buildings in minutes.... Wink

Doitnicelyplease · 09/01/2014 22:06

Sorry to upset the playmobil lovers! Dd1 is only 5 but always prefers animals than people. She probably would love playmobil Dino's but we have enough dinosaur toys already.
We have the campervan which gets overtaken by Dino's or the swimming pool which gets overtaken by wild animals all playmobil people and pieces are thrown aside.
