To put daytime clothes on dd for bed?

MyNameIsKenAdams · 07/01/2014 09:03

I am a complete plain jane where clothes are concerned and 2yo dd is usually in plain (but still pretty) clothes. Saw some stripey sailor type leggings and an anchor tshirt yesterday which I bought as I love, but are, imo too patterned / vibrant for daytime, but made perfect pjs last night.

Keep looking at her in them and thinking (1) lovely pjs! And (2) am I a Bad Mother?

As long as they don't have sharp zips that could dig into her if she rolled over on it or hoods I don't see why not?

Pascha · 07/01/2014 09:06

1)No problem with using them for pjs if thats what they suit. DS1 has on occasion used tshirts as PJ tops.

2)You are not a bad mother. As long as she's wearing appropriate clothing during the day and comfortable clothing at night I don't see the problem.

GingerPCatt · 07/01/2014 09:10

DS often wears pj tops as shirts. You can't tell and as long as the clothes are comfortable for sleep (not jeans) I can't see any issue.

SomethingOnce · 07/01/2014 09:13

In whose weird world would this make you a bad parent? Confused

ILoveAFullFridge · 07/01/2014 09:15

I've done the reverse! We've had several pj tops that were so lovely I thought it a shame to keep them only for bed, so the dc have worn them as shirts.

YANBU. Absolutely fine.

SaucyJack · 07/01/2014 09:17

No you're not a bad mother...... but you do sound uptight about clothes.

I genuinely don't understand why you'd buy clothes you claim to love, but refuse to let your kid out of the house dressed in them. She's two- she doesn't need to wear a business suit to soft play.

Just chill, Winston.

curlew · 07/01/2014 09:19

Don't worry, another 6 months and you won't have any say at all in what she wears..........

MyNameIsKenAdams · 07/01/2014 12:07

Grin i know I sound a bit uptight. Tbh I thought if I put her in them for daytime people might think id taken her out in her pjs.

I do all the time. Dd wears a lot of leggings and tshirt type tops which are lovely but tend to get really marked really quickly once they are too stained for day wear they go in the night wear drawer Grin

EirikurNoromaour · 07/01/2014 12:54

How are they too vibrant for daytime? Your attitude is odd and probably needs to be addressed before you give your dd a complex.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 07/01/2014 13:37

I hardly think so. When she is old enough to pick out her own clothes, she can go for it! However I am naturally inclined to opt for plain clothes. And as I do the choosing at the moment....

I think your attitude is odd, 2 year olds are vibrant. I wear really boring mostly black clothes, but I dress my children in bright, colourful clothes.

MyNameIsKenAdams · 07/01/2014 13:49

I didnt say they werent courful - I said plain.

She has lots.of red, blue, pink, yellow, green.....just plain. I dont like fussy patterbs or prints except on pjs.

My DD is sometimes wears her vest tops in bed, shes 6, shes in charge of her own clothes now, though some of her choices make my teeth itch.

HeinzDoofenshmirtz · 07/01/2014 14:06

There is a chance you could be overthinking this.

Katiepoes · 07/01/2014 14:08

As the parent of a three year old currently wearing a tutu and velvet cape over jeans and a Cinderella tiara trust me, those clothes sound very acceptable. I have accepted that for the moment the best I can hope for is keeping her warm.

diddl · 07/01/2014 14:11

Sound too nice for PJs & lovely for an outfit tbh!

diddl · 07/01/2014 14:15

Is it that you think either top or bottoms should be patterned, but not both?

I've bought my DD a lovely top and leggings all in a ladybird pattern but it looks like pjs so I've got the opposite problem.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/01/2014 14:21

My DCs go to bed in outdoor clothes more often than pjs, anything from just a pair of pants, to pants and socks, teeshirt and pants, cotton dresses as nightshirts, leggings. Just nothing with zips, buckles or buttons to dig in.

diddl · 07/01/2014 14:22

sonly-perhaps you now need plain leggings & a plain top to make two outfits!

ChippingInWadesIn · 07/01/2014 14:23

They sound like perfect PJ's - worry not :)

gaggiagirl · 07/01/2014 14:29

My DD is wearing her swimming costume at the moment. We aren't going swimming til tomorrow, but hey ho.

ShatnersBassoon · 07/01/2014 14:30

I don't know why you're doubting yourself. You like some things, you don't like others. All sounds normal to me.
