O find time alone with my baby boring

I feel guilty! On mat leave for at least another 9 months and I was bored to death by 3pm today! Rest of day not bad as household chores to be done, feeding, naps, etc, but that 2hrs before DH got in dragged :( Now wondering how I will get through another 9 months of similar days. I've never had time at home like this since I got first job at 16 now 35. Not sure point of post just a moan really! It's bloody hard work trying to keep baby entertained when all I want to do is mn and sleep!

Sounds very normal to me Grin. I adored my kids as babies but I did find that I would get bored with the first one. I used to make sure I went out every day and tried to keep busy. It took a while but I gradually built up a lovely circle of friends and filled up my days. With the subsequent kids I was too busy too be bored Confused

mrsjay · 06/01/2014 23:03

babies tbh dont do very much do they and there is honestly so much peekaboo you can do without losing the will Grin
how old is your baby do you go out and about or are you in a lot take yourself out you dont need to be so baby orientated all the time sleep and mumsnet when you baby is napping and as long as your baby is near you you dont have to be giving it full atention all the time

DinoSnores · 06/01/2014 23:04

YADNBU. I found having a baby and a toddler much, much more fun and much easier. Try to find something non-baby related to do as well. Also you don't need to do much entertaining at that age. Going out for a walk, watching the wind in the leaves, watching you cook, read grown-up stories aloud if you want to read to your baby. It is all new and interesting and wonderful to them!

JupiterGentlefly · 06/01/2014 23:05

Not at all unreasonable. I went to everything I could to get me out of the house. My idea of a good time was a trip to sainsburys!

CailinDana · 06/01/2014 23:09

Babies are dull. They do get more interesting though. You need to get out of the house every day. When my first was small I just developed a busy social life and ds came along for the ride! Rather than my day revolving around looking after him, looking after him just fit in with my day. I had a great time - made lovely new friends, went to the cinema loads, drank lots of coffee and generally made the most of it :) I have two now and try to do the same but the day seems to be about 4 minutes long. By the time I've fed every one and made some small show of doing housework it's dark and time to feed everyone again!

Yabu
I can't say anymore

Beavie · 06/01/2014 23:13

Christ yeah. Babies are fucking tediously boring. Luckily for them they're cute though.

CailinDana- can you elaborate on the cinema trips? I am always scared my DS will start crying/need changing/play up.

Local play groups and sure start centres are my lifeline.

TheNightIsDark · 06/01/2014 23:15

YANBU. Me and DS tried a baby group today. We were blanked. Well I was. Someone told him he was cute and moved along.

There's only so many nursery rhymes I can sing or so many objects I can use to bribe him to roll over.

HairyPloppins · 06/01/2014 23:15

You are def not u reasonable. Babies are cute to look at but I was bored out of my brains. It's not as if they do much is it? It's much better when their little personalities come through and then its all worth it. But the early days....bleurgh! I did lots of shopping and seeing people. Love my little one to bits but not going through the baby thing again!

theeternalstudent · 06/01/2014 23:16

My year off on maternity leave was the best year of my life.

DD would wake up at 5.30am and by 8.30am we were out walking the dog for an hour, coffee and cake somewhere on the way home and then back home for lunch before going out and doing it all again in the afternoon.

MissRabbitsOtherJob · 06/01/2014 23:19

OP, they get easier and more fun as they grow. Wait until crawling turns into climbing stairs and you'll dream of those boring days again!

TheNightIsDark · 06/01/2014 23:21

Once they can move its amazing. Unfortunately by then it's the end of mat leave Grin

mrsbug · 06/01/2014 23:22

I loved it in the summer when I'd take dd out for long walks, picnics in the park, etc. It's boring at the moment because the weather is shite, I've run out of money, and most stuff I normally go to is cancelled for the school holidays.

Dd and I both go slightly bananas if we don't get out of the house every day.

intheround · 06/01/2014 23:24

You do have to get out. It's hard to break in to some circles of toddler groups but try several till you find one that suits. Once you get to know people your social life will improve- it'll just happen during the day rather than the evenings.
Walking and swimming are good activities with babies too. When mine were very small, my friends and I used to hang out at each others houses and eat cake- it became a standing joke with DH, but it kept me sane.
Oh, and I started knitting again after a long break.

Mrswellyboot · 06/01/2014 23:27

I am enjoying it but totally agree with getting out. We got to the park, just to walk, library, mother and baby (as previous poster said you can end up staring into space)

I am enjoying being away from the work politics and being in my own home.

I bake, declutter the house, practise guitar etc

KareKare · 06/01/2014 23:35

I had no intention of going back to work after I had my first.

When he was 6 months my boss phoned me.

'Waaaaaah, I'm bored!' I said, 'please can I come back to work?!'

I joined every group going, but I was still bored.

At 9 months I went back to work, 2 days per week. Then I enjoyed it all much more.

HaroldTheGoat · 06/01/2014 23:39

What I found hard was the pressure to feel like your entertaining them!

Just get out as much as possible, singing groups etc. there is always another adult desperate for a conversation.

I have 2 now and I am so jealous of people with just one who can go out to civilised places for lunch and coffee.

I can only go to soft play hell holes.

You will get into the swing of it...

ukatlast · 06/01/2014 23:57

YABU babies are gorgeous and definitely way better than putting up with office politics.

intheround · 07/01/2014 00:07

Ikea is a great training ground for teaching toddlers about eating out. Mine loved the meatballs. There was usually a week day special offer. It's quite echoey so any tantrums couldn't heard that well. There was a play corner if they got bored

Toecheese · 07/01/2014 00:27

Get out socialising with baby! You can have lots if fun but it requires a little effort. But also babies do become more interesting with age.

BertieBowtiesAreCool · 07/01/2014 00:31

MN and sleep is pretty much what I did Blush

Feckadeck · 07/01/2014 00:35

An thanks....good to know I am not alone. He's just fell asleep now and looks gorgeous so finding it hard to believe I was so bored a few hours ago lol. Will take tips about getting out and about. Living in very small community right now but sure there must be something here for mums and babies, if not there is a cinema and walking as you say. Entertaining I feel I need to do constantly in the house or dd just has melt downs!
