What has happened to Body Shop?

Yes I know it was sold off a long time ago but it's unrecognisable in terms of products and prices. Half of the stuff I used to buy years ago like their body butter and perfume oil have really gone up in price. The perfume oil must have changed ingredients as the smell is so weak compared to a few years ago. Their makeup is Mac prices.

The sale stuff are rubbish and still expensive.

Does anyone here still shop there?

I've got a BS banana conditioner in my bathroom which I'm sure I bought in 2013

Hasn't it only just stopped being 2013? ;)

OpalMoonstone · 07/01/2014 00:55

It has yes. People were saying they missed BS banana conditioner and I was pointing out that it has been sold recently as I bought mine sometime last year.

OpalMoonstone · 07/01/2014 00:58

In fact it's still available on the website now as I just checked

bragmatic · 07/01/2014 04:58

I'm still wistful for the Ananya frangranced products. I'm that old.

SomethingOnce · 07/01/2014 09:04

It's on the list of brands to avoid if you're boycotting Nestlé.

OpalMoonstone · 07/01/2014 09:43

Are L'Oreal part of the Nestle group then? I didn't even realise they had been taken over by L'Oreal until I read this thread

forumdonkey · 07/01/2014 10:03

spottybra nearly every shop has a box by the door to count footfall. its been around for donkeys years and is certainly not unique. I would say nearly every single major retailer uses it to measure customer traffic.

TheWitTank · 07/01/2014 10:45

I can't go into Lush-the smell, even from outside the door, is so strong it gives me a headache and makes me feel a bit sick. I have had a gift of the bath bombs and some soap from a family member, and I was not overly impressed. Again, the smell was so strong and a bit chemical, although this did fade when I chucked it in the bath.
Ice blue shampoo was amazing! I love this thread, I'm feeling all nostalgic!

RedToothBrush · 07/01/2014 10:58

Nestle are one of the two major share holders of L'Oreal, the other being
Liliane Bettencourt daughter of the founder of L'Oreal. She has just over 30% stake in the company and Nestle just under 30%.

However there is a lot of talk that Nestle might be about to sell their stake. They are currently tied into a deal where they can not sell, but this ends at the end of April.

SomethingOnce · 07/01/2014 11:06

Too late for Body Shop to redeem themselves ethically, IMO.

OpalMoonstone · 07/01/2014 11:10

Shame isn't it. It was soo soo popular in the 80s and early 90s. I loved it as a teenager

forumdonkey · 07/01/2014 11:13

If memory serves me correctly the Nestle boycott with regards to it being used by staff in store came about due to Nestle pushing/giving and promoting formula baby milk in 3rd world countries.

fedup21 · 07/01/2014 12:13

I walked past there three times on Saturday afternoon (the high street was heaving) and there wasn't one person in there on any occasion!

squoosh · 07/01/2014 12:27

I think the actual shops will disappear quite soon, hope they keep an online presence though as there are a few items I really like.

Sad to think the bustling shops of my teenage Saturday afternoons are no more. Kiwi Lip Balm I'll never forget you! You were smeared all over my smackers when I got my first sloppy snog.

snowed · 07/01/2014 12:32

The products are pretty much the same as you can get in a lot of other places, and the staff are pushy.

bishboschone · 07/01/2014 12:35

But it online , they practically give it away. I always get 40% off at least

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 07/01/2014 12:36

The one near us has just been totally refurbished, I'd be sad it it went, as I don't like buying cosmetics online unless I've tried them before, but the ridiculous level of online discounting makes it hard to justify paying shop prices.

stephenisjustcoming · 07/01/2014 12:51

i went off bath bombs around the same time that I became responsible for cleaning my own bath... Hmm

gaggiagirl · 07/01/2014 16:24

I do use the body butters. Im fanatical about moisturising and the BS ones are great and smell fab. I have a loyalty card and always buy when there are offers on so its not so expensive.

However the manager in the store I use regularly has a cats bum mouth and no manners and treats me as if I'm not good enough to shop there. Shame as it puts me right off going in now.

bluebeanie · 07/01/2014 20:31

Ah, the Japanese washing grains. Loved them. Haven't been back in years. I don't get it tbh.

GeekInThePink · 02/02/2014 10:31

Why can I not find a discount code that everyone is talking about :( £3 delivery!

Norisca · 16/06/2014 12:36

Nestle are still pushing formula in 'developing countries' we just don't called them third world any more. This contributes to hundreds of thousands of infant deaths every year. Mumsnet still accept advertising from Body Shop and L'Oreal because Nestle only has a 26% share in them!

Rainbunny · 16/06/2014 18:26

I'm kind of amazed they're still in business considering that there's much more competition for similar products now. I do love their Nutrigenics softening cleaning gel though.

EurotrashGirl · 16/06/2014 20:13

I used to shop there all the time, but I haven't been in there in years.

Toadsrevisited · 16/06/2014 20:18

They have an outlet shop near York which is v v cheap if you are ever in those parts...
