To think this is unacceptable

This lady updates the FB page of our local children's centre. She asked me a few months ago to like the page as she was now taking over it.

There are daily updates on frankly what I think is unprofessional and should be checked before going live.

Things such as using the word 'grate' for great, putting xxxxxxx at the end of status' and general terrible grammar.

Now, I'm not perfect, my grammar is rubbish but I would get a second opinion if I had a similar job.

AIBU to think its not acceptable?

I'm too chicken to complain but want to have a moan, yes I have too much time on my hands

OP posts:

MrsDeVere I am aware people don't agree with me, this is AIBU after all as I have stated several times. Many assumptions have been made on this thread and if I have made some of those assumptions then I will apologise.

However you say that schools will not be posting drunken snaps or talking about their roast dinners. Again, I will repeat that we haven't seen enough examples of what this woman has been posting to judge her either way.

For all we know, the OP has picked out one or two 'crimes' out of many perfectly adquate posts.

I have an inkling that if this lady was that bad, the centre would have had a word by now because as you say, they are governed by the council.

Because it's an assumption and on this thread was used as an insult, as was her age (assuming she was young and therefore thick)

You are really trying hard here to find offence where there is none.

Why would I insult a class I belong to and am proud of?

SaucyJack · 03/01/2014 11:52

It would, and does annoy me when people the government employs to tell me how to care for/educate my child are less...... capable (?) than myself.

Then those colleagues should not be made managers.

The manager of that centre is responsible for the staff and ultimately the Facebook page. As a manager they will already have dealt with difficult issues and if this was a problem, I should imagine they would have the skills and experience to have a quiet word with her.

At some point she has been asked to take over the FB page, so they must think she is capable. Perhaps they like her style? That is possible you know.

Personally I'd prefer it if childrens' centres didn't have FB pages at all. For this very reason.

THECliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 03/01/2014 11:54

Knock it off, you know damn well what I meant.

I suppose mentioning age in there also meant I am ageist?

Is there any point in continuing or would you like to take over the thread for yourself?

If I had put middle class or upper class in there would it have generated such fake uproar I wonder?

And why pick on working class and ignore the fact that I also mentioned 'young'?

Leave your issues with me at the door please.

At no point did I say the FB page was acceptable. I said it was not a council publication and it is really not the site for professionalism given its 'social media' status. If you want professionalism, try Google+

lookatmybutt · 03/01/2014 11:59

I don't care about spelling - I thought I made that clear. You're the one that brought up spelling and dyslexia.

You write for your audience - therefore I might write about butts for people on the internet but I would never write about butts to a customer.

Is that easier for you to understand?

fromparistoberlin · 03/01/2014 11:59

yanbu

but you cant say anything

unless, set up a fake profile and send her a message???? nicely worded

Its not fucking rocket science to do a basic spell check, I have no pity for this woman

I am a bitch however Grin

thankfeckitschrismas · 03/01/2014 11:59

mrsdevere two of my sisters got pregnant at 16. They needed chidrens centres, they needed help.

So i Speak from experience, sadly, and your response has given me the rage!

THECliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 03/01/2014 12:00

Peace and love MrsDeVere I hope your New Year brings you happiness and joy. Disagreements are one thing, but bearing grudges is another. I get you disagree with me quite strongly. I hope I haven't irked you too much. It is just the internet after all and I'm sure we'd be much more polite in real life Smile

In MrsDeVere's defence thankfeck I think you have her mixed up with someone else.

MrsDeVere I suspect we would agree more than we disagree.

I do not like people being judged on spelling or grammar either. To say that she is therefore working class was wrong, as you pointed out. To say that was was young, is also wrong. To say that she was lazy or uneducated or an idiot is equally wrong.

This thread has all been about judging this woman.

No matter what you think of facebook pages for children's centres, no-one should have been judged so harshly.

I am of the opinion that if it does not reflect on the care of the children and if the centre seem happy with their FB page then it's not for the parent to bring the issue up unless they have a valid reason for doing so. I didn't see any valid reasons on this thread, just a load of assumptions and nasty comments.

I questioned the OP's motives and I still do.

But I get that you disagree with that. Fair enough.

natwebb79 · 03/01/2014 12:08

My SIL is a fantastic nursery nurse. She is also the most severely dyslexic person I know (and I teach a lot of children with dyslexia). She never sends a text message and she finds reading incredibly difficult. She is in charge of the baby room and puts my parenting skills to shame, she really is amazing. To that end I couldn't give a flying toss about her literacy skills. Grin

thankfeckitschrismas · 03/01/2014 12:09

**MrsDeVere Fri 03-Jan-14 10:33:25

I think that is a patronising viewpoint thankfeck

It is perfectly possible to be professional without being overly formal and it is equally possible to welcome non middle class parents without the use of hunz and hugz.

I can't quite bring myself to believe that you believe what you just wrote.

Having been on the receiving end of that sort of mindset I can tell you it is rage inducing.

Low expectations of young mothers do them more damage than treating them like intelligent women.**

Nope not mixing her words up with anyone else. I speak from EXPERIENCE, or does that not count on here.

Im leaving the thread now, so you can all have the last word if you like.

But my opinion is valid and has not been changed by anything anyone has written on here.

THECliffRichardSucksEggsinHell · 03/01/2014 12:10

And before you take offence at the fact that I mentioned working class again, I mention it because people have assumed that because she cannot spell she must therefore be working class, which is why I mentioned the many professional people, educated people, who cannot spell.

To assume that working class people can't spell or that young people all write as 'hunni' is pathetically wrong.

On a huge scale.
