Anyone else sad that the holidays are nearly over?

In no way being smug or trying to annoy anyone who's struggling (got flamed a bit before).

But I really am having such a nice time and don't want it to end.

We haven't done anything special, but so nice just to see family and friends, no rush for anything, lazy mornings, no work, no making packed lunches.

We've just been sat on the floor on a big blanket, eating fish finger sandwiches and biscuits watching tv.

Jan and Feb are just a bit rubbish too, roll on clocks going forward now.

Mine all went back today. I am sad that the holiday season is over as it's been so nice. That said, it was brilliant going to the supermarket alone this morning!

Dollslikeyouandme · 02/01/2014 15:53

The other thing is I find the weekly routine quite stressful.

It's more expensive as I'm using more fuel and paying for breakfast/after school club. Sick of making boring packed lunches and trying to think of something new to put in/finding a lovely mess in there when we get home. Sick of some days not seeing my house in day light. I've had a lot of car trouble so worry every day that my car will make it to work. Less time to cook nice meals after work.

Holidays definitely bliss by comparison, even if ds is going on at me 24/7!

We've had a great holiday too. It's been restful, which most of our school holidays aren't. I'll be sad to get back into the daily routine next week.

Selks · 02/01/2014 16:00

Me too. I've had my grown up son and his lovely wife here for a fortnight, plus my daughter and other relatives. Son lives abroad 5000 miles away. They leave tomorrow and I may not see them for a whole year until next Christmas - not sure if I can get out to see them this year.
It has been such a lovely Christmas. I love him and enjoy his company so much....I am happy in theory for him to go as I am happy that he has such a good life out there but I will miss him so and right now my heart is breaking a little bit.

Squitten · 02/01/2014 16:03

We've had a lovely Xmas but I'm ready for school to start again!

We only have one DC in Reception but DC2 just started potty training yesterday and DC3 is newborn. DC1 is getting bored being stuck in in the mostly foul weather and riles up his brother so once he's back at school it will all calm down a bit!

JemimaMuddledUp · 02/01/2014 16:03

Normally I'm really sad to see them go back, but this year I am really ready to get back into routine. I finished my old job before Christmas and start a new one on Monday too, so I am itching to get started.

The weather has been vile so we have been stuck inside (DC are 7, 9 and 11 so too old for soft play, things like the swimming pool and badminton courts are closed quite a lot over the holiday period so can't use them). There has been a lot of squabbling. DS1 hasn't been well either, he's had some low level virus with a sore throat and headaches. If he'd been in school with his mates he probably would have carried on regardless, but at home he has been feeling sorry for himself. I also stupidly bought them all lots of Lego for Christmas, so my every attempt to tidy up for the New Year is met by a tidal wave of small plastic pieces crossing the carpet. They've also been sleeping late in the mornings, which means they are going to bed later so DH and I aren't getting any time to ourselves in the evenings.

I love my DC to bits, but I really want to get back to a routine now!

loveolives · 02/01/2014 16:05

YANBU. We've had an absolutely fantastic time. OH has been off 3 weeks and goes back Monday and I'm gutted. I will be glad to get back to routine etc but we've had a wonderful time spending it all together, seeing family, plenty of eating and drinking. It's just been lovely.

Yama · 02/01/2014 16:06

Oh Selks - that brought a lump to my throat.

parabelle · 02/01/2014 16:07

I've only just finished, worked all over Christmas (NHS) and finished new year's eve so my holiday is just beginning. DD's aren't back 'til next Wed so still have lots of days with them before we all go back to the routine. It's lovely you're have such a nice break OP.

MiniTheMinx · 02/01/2014 16:08

Nope, I am itching to get back to normal. Decorations are down and I'm just counting the days. I enjoy having the kids around, friends in and the whole Christmas/New Year caboodle but I also enjoy my everyday life and miss being busy.

Backtotherealworld · 02/01/2014 16:12

We've had a great time, mixture of days out and lazing around. But I'm actually looking forward to us all getting back into a routine now.

Ledkr · 02/01/2014 16:12

I'm also sad and I don't think it's in anyway smug to feel happy and to have enjoyed something.
I'm not even madly keen on Xmas but I love the period after when like you we have a break from the drudge. We have both worked some days but still come home to a cosy fire and tree lights and lots of chocolate a booze

Selks · 02/01/2014 16:12

Thanks Yama for your sympathy. It is hard, but I'll be ok in a couple of days I'm sure. Smile

bishbashboosh · 02/01/2014 16:27

Me too I am dreading Monday morning HmmHmmHmmHmmHmm

AntiJamDidi · 02/01/2014 16:31

I'm sad too. I'm a teacher so obviously have been at home for the school holidays. Dp has been off for the same length of time so we've had nice relaxing days, not getting up til 9 even 3yo dd2 Shock

I'm a bit panicky too. I got my school laptop out yesterday to do some planning and it won't start Shock Sad I could get it to work but it would involve reinstalling Windows which would a) be a pain in the arse and b) piss off our it support as they would then have to reinstall all the other software. So I have to wait til Monday to give the laptop to them to fix. Meanwhile I'll be guessing what topics I'm supposed to be teaching on Monday then (actually I'll phone a friend and ask, but it sounds more dramatic to say I'll guess) I was really wanting to start writing some reports but I can't because all my data is on the laptop, so that's more work to do after school next week then, instead of now while I'm not too busy.

I don't think it sounds smug but on MN you are only allowed to have major problems though Wink

I don't work term term but save my leave for a summer hol and a fortnight over xmas. We have all the family round for the whole 2 weeks and it feels very lonely today without DH and my parents. I am working from home and the kids are chilling out watching films and playing games.

Yep I'm a bit gutted they're nearly over. It seems to have gone so quick. Back to early mornings and the daily grind on Monday.

WoollyNortherner · 02/01/2014 16:43

I'm not sad. I've still had to go to work, so I've felt a bit guilty about not seeing enough of the kids. I usually only work until 3, so during term time, they aren't aware of my absence.

Over Xmas, they've both had bouts of illness, which has made me feel even worse about having to leave them.

It's been a lovely Xmas, but I'm glad its over and I can stop feeling like I'm abandoning them.

Chottie · 02/01/2014 16:44

I've had a lovely holiday too. Both my DC have been home for the first time in three Christmases. I've loved having them around as they get on well and are wonderful company.

If I sound smug, so be it. Life's too short to worry about sounding smug, who knows what is round the corner? You are all putting down wonderful memories for your DC. Happy New Year to you all

HoneyStepMummy · 02/01/2014 16:45

I don't think YABU or smug at all. However I am glad that the holidays are over and it's back to normal. We had something very big and stressful happen over the holiday period so it wasn't the best of times.
I'm glad to be done with all the stress, shopping, spending, cooking and eating. I'm glad for the kids to go back to school. I'm looking forward to a week long work trip to Las Vegas at the end of the month.
I do agree with you about Jan and Feb being really awful months though!

Pigsmummy · 02/01/2014 16:48

The malteasers were just finished in our house, that made me sad, some after eights left though. Off to Pizza express in a mo, it's lovely having DH home as he isn't normally home until about 8 so it feels like a luxury to have him around at this time of day.

Yanbu

missmapp · 02/01/2014 16:50

We have really enjoyed the hols, i am a teacher , so work term time and have just gone full time. so have really enjoyed having time with the dcs. DH has been around the whole time aswell, and whereas that would normally drive me mad, we have had some lovely days and caught up with loads of family and friends.

so...YANBU
