Ssd I've just checked thomas cook, they have a holiday to turkey leaving edinburgh, glasgow is more expensive on 21st of June for £1950 that's all inclusive too for a week

ssd · 02/01/2014 11:47

I dont fancy Turkey (I know I'm a pain in the arse Grin)
also cant take kids till school ends, or we'd be in serious trouble with them

will school not be finished by 21st of june this year ?

Weelady77 · 02/01/2014 11:51

School would be very lenient it's end of term, I go holiday every year we go September because I couldn't afford to go term time and I've never had a problem, do you need to do a package? Or could you pay for your flights hotel separate?

By the way turkeys fabby Wink

There's some really good ideas on this thread. The only time mine have been abroad is when the PILs paid for half of it but we had a really nice time in Devon last Summer

ShanghaiDiva · 02/01/2014 12:13

Netherlands is worth considering as mid August is good value - assume schools go back then. We have rented a house a couple of times in hellevoitsluis through a company called romport.

bruffin · 02/01/2014 12:51

Ssd why dont you leave it to next year when your dcs finish their gcses. We are doing it this year as dd finishes gcse and Ds A levels so no school in june or july. Just waiting for date of prom so dd doesnt miss that.

I mentioned Centerparcs and the last week of august is a lot cheaper. You also get an early bird discount for booking early. Kempervennen is brilliant for teens. My two spent the week waterskiing but there is also a proper snow ski slope if your dcs like that sort of thing.

cantthinkofagoodone · 02/01/2014 12:58

Book for 2015 and sack off any UK holidays in the meantime? Somewhere cheap and spainy would be lovely and warm too.

SeaDevilscanPlay · 02/01/2014 13:07

instead of a package you could try DIY? Easyjey/Ryanair/Jet2 flights and use owners direct or holiday lettings for an apartment?

creamteas · 02/01/2014 13:15

Have you thought about coach travel? It is often really cheap. My local coach company sells holidays all over Europe for a fraction of the price of flight holidays. (They are not tours, just travel to and from Spain by coach).

I went for this option when I was skint, and it was actually better than I thought it would be. My kids were primary school age when I first went, and this was easier than long flights with them as the coach stopped every couple of hours so they could get off and run around for a bit.

Ssd I'm going to Tunisia this year leaving edinburgh 5th sept for 2 weeks cheapest I've found it is £1900 all inclusive Smile

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 02/01/2014 19:40

wow you can afford butlins and havens?

I always see all these places as total rip offs....you are much better off booking your own travel and looking for your own accommodation..

It does amaze me as to what people want from holidays, I aim for the utter most quality/comfort and luxury I can get in the most attractive place for the leas amount of money. I have to do lots of research but I manage it.

yarn33 · 02/01/2014 19:48

Canary isles are usually cheap, 3 of us went all inclusive (so barely any need for spending money) for about £2k last year, admittedly in term time. We found it was cheaper than Spain.

ssd · 02/01/2014 20:05

lots of good ideas here, thanks Smile

we travelled round Europe this year (drove to Porto and back) 2 weeks, stayed in Ibis budget hotels - 2 rooms is less than £100 a night, so a week £700, Eurotunnel is c£150 return, Glasgow to Lyon (for example) is 2,000 miles, so £300 in petrol - gives £100 a day for food and spends.

Or Ryanair in mid July Glasgow to Barcelona, £630 return for all of you, Ibis budget £60 a night for 2 rooms (£30 each) - around £1000 on travel and accomadation for 7 nights and £1000 to spend

Or here slightly more expensive self-catering 2 bed apartment €100 a night, but cheaper eats and more space for the family

ssd · 02/01/2014 20:12

thanks!

I think you could book a flight/ accommodation separately trip to Barcelona or Costa Dorada for less than 2k. We stayed in a Spanish sea side resort called Coma Ruga for a few nights 2 years ago that cost £110 a night for 2 rooms, 4 people all inclusive. You can easily travel into Barcelona by train from there. Or you could stay further up the coast towards Port Aventura. We flew Easy Jet one way and BA the other as that was the cheapest option for the Days we needed to go.

ENormaSnob · 02/01/2014 20:54

Salou is fecking awful.

Look at travel republic, you should find something for your budget.

Greece and turkey are beautiful btw, you'd be mad to disregard them before researching.

Nancy66 · 02/01/2014 20:58

there are a zillion comps around right now where you can win holidays. Enter as many as you can and you never know. I have two batty aunties who do comps all the time and they ALWAYS win at least one holiday a year.
