Rather than book though euro camp or key camp etc, get their brochures and contact the sites you fancy directly. We saved loads doing this.

Electryone · 01/01/2014 23:09

How about this?

Easy jet flights to Faro in Portugal and have a bit of a fly drive type holiday on the Algarve.

I did this a few years back and only spent a few hundred.

£2k is actually a healthy budget for a European holiday.

WilsonFrickett · 01/01/2014 23:19

If you have to go in the holidays then look at flights from Newcastle before the English holidays start. But honestly, the only affordable way to do it is to go in the school term. And 15 doesn't sound like the right age to be taking them out in term-time Sad

ssd · 01/01/2014 23:22

no it must be outwith term time.

You would definitely get a week in somewhere like Majorca for less that £2k. Have just done a search on directholidays.co.uk and there re self catering holidays from £1701 flying from Glasgow on 4th July

WilsonFrickett · 01/01/2014 23:28

Sucks eh? We will definitely do a couple of 'big' holidays before high school for that very reason.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 02/01/2014 04:56

Try Eurocamp, if you book now they have some good offers on at the moment.

www.eurocamp.co.uk/

My colleague sold a lot of old stuff on e-bay over 2 years and raised £3k to put towards a tour of SE Asia. Is this something that you could do now that Christmas has passed. You could have a clear out of old toys etc & sell them via e-bay or car boot sales. Open a savings account with a notice period so you can't easily raid it while you are building up your holiday fund. Save up £2 coins & once your jar is full then bank it, it is easy to save up a signicant sum quickly this way.

JeanSeberg · 02/01/2014 06:06

Is the 15 year old Y11? Because GCSEs will finish end of June so you could go before main school hols start.

Don't be rude dear, it isn't becoming. I'll help anyone with the bare minimum of information, when there isnt any it's a pointless exercise in thread opening.

MyGoldenNotebook · 02/01/2014 08:46

What about Barcelona? There are lots of apartments to rent or small B&Bs where you can hire multiple rooms. We stayed in a lovely one a couple of years ago called Barcelona home. We used trav.com

JeanSeberg · 02/01/2014 09:42

Having a budget of 2k for a holiday doesn't really equate to the original post and being working poor does it?

WaffilyVersatile · 02/01/2014 09:54

I have been looking at holidays on and off for the last 10 months. Decent last minute all inclusive for 4 to spain is going to cost you about 1k

I know people have varying ideas about wealth but if I had 1k (let alone 2k) to blow on a holiday I would not be considering myself as poorly off.

Fuckaella I took my eldest to the south of France when he was small, I was on my own, on benefits and we had a great time, worked out no more expensive than being home, I think the park was in frejus but up in the mountains!

Wherediparkmybroom · 02/01/2014 10:01

Just read back a bit 2k on a holiday!!! That is not for someone who considers herself working poor, it will end up a debt and a millstone not a well earned break

JeanSeberg · 02/01/2014 10:03

Or are you planning to stick it in a credit card?

rosy71 · 02/01/2014 10:11

2K to spend on a holiday is loads!

We've been to Duinrell. If you book direct, you could get a week's accommodation for about £800 plus travel costs. If you don't mind driving, the tunnel is cheapish & you can use Tesco vouchers. If you have your own tent, you could go somewhere in Europe really cheaply.

rosy71 · 02/01/2014 10:12

We have found going to Europe no more expensive than going to Haven.

elQuintoConyo · 02/01/2014 10:27

Port Aventura recently opened a Sesame Street section that looks fun.
If you fancied a day of culture, you could always hop on a quick, local, frequent bus into Roman Tarragona, explore the amphitheatre, circus tunnels etc and wander along the big open street leading to.the sea (and meet me for coffee!).

ssd · 02/01/2014 11:26

the 2k is for everything all in, the holiday, spends, trips, meals, food, tickets etc

I save up all year for this, last year had £900 so this year my aim is to try to save double so we could go abroad

would love barcelona and salou, will try some of the links here to see what we could get, maybe going for 7 days would make it cheaper then we could have spending money on top and still come in under 2k

2k is the absolute maximum and thats pushing it

We've been to Duinrell, and I would say there's loads for that age group. It's also near a fantastic beach, so you have everything. It's an awfully long way to drive for you though.
Other posters, she's probably saved for ages to get to £2000.
We have friends that swear by Ai holiday village turkey, but not sure what that would cost.
And omg, my dd would love the sesame street world, that could possibly be next years holiday, they have some good Ai deals to Spain.

mrsjay · 02/01/2014 11:40

can anyone work out the cost of one week for 2 adults 2 kids aged 15 there flying from Scotland

go to travel agents fly from manchester or newcastle last week in june you should get it cheaper, we did that when we went to Florida and it was £400 cheaper because it wasnt the english holidays you need to shop around though
