DH neither.

What time would you say was the latest reasonable to tell DD that one of us will pick her up?
She is 14 and has gone to her lovely friends where they are having a small family party.

Depends how far it is? Midnight?? Or somewhere between 11 and 12 perhaps.

JumpingJackSprat · 01/01/2014 19:13

Can she stay over? I'd be saying 11pm.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/01/2014 19:14

We pick dd up by our bedtime - which is 10.

No exceptions, we have to get up early. She's 15.

bigTillyMintspie · 01/01/2014 19:15

It's not far - 5-10mins in the car. They often do sleepover at each others, but I'm not sure there's space tonight if family are staying.

We don't have to get up early tomorrow, but we are knackered after last nightWink

10pm is totally reasonable.

Firstimer13 · 01/01/2014 19:18

No judgement but this makes me feel so grateful for my mum.

Dollydishus · 01/01/2014 19:19

I pic kid up DS1 (16) from a party last night, half an hour away, at 3.30am.

Am i a mug? Grin

Firstimer13 · 01/01/2014 19:21

You're not a mug, 15 years later your DS1 will sit there and think how lucky he is.

Dollydishus · 01/01/2014 19:22

Should be 'picked' sorry.

I think 10.00 is quite early to leave a party. We socialise quite a hit with other familes with children (ages 7-17), and we often don't sit down to eat til nearly 10.00.

We are all night owls though ...

kslatts · 01/01/2014 19:23

If I had to get up for work then I would say by midnight, otherwise I would pick her up whenever the party finished.

bigTillyMintspie · 01/01/2014 19:23

No, you are very kind. I am not feeling kindBlush

DameDeepRedBetty · 01/01/2014 19:24

About ten. What about leaving straight after Sherlock finishes?

rookietherednosedreindeer · 01/01/2014 19:25

I'd say 11 as the latest I'd want to get to bed is 11.30 - particularly after staying up for NY last night. Alternatively if you know the family could she not stay over?

Dollydishus · 01/01/2014 19:25

Thanks first! Public transport round here is useless and taxis an absolute fortune. I go to bed, he rings me when he needs a lift, I go and pick him up, go back to bed.

It's only once in a blue moon....and he's is a good kid, no trouble at all (these days...he used to be a terror!).

Dollydishus · 01/01/2014 19:28

BigTilly...has she earned it? A late lift as a treat? Or can she repay you in other ways.

If you aren't feeling kind cos she's been a cheeky madam all Christmas then that's different and totally justified!

bigTillyMintspie · 01/01/2014 19:29

Even I think 10 is too early for her to have to come home even though I would like to be in bed then

We have 3 extra teen boys in the house (thanks DS) so I am praying that they are quiet tonight!

teacher123 · 01/01/2014 19:30

My dad would only ever pick us up after 10.30 on very special occasions! Could she get a taxi just this once?

bigTillyMintspie · 01/01/2014 19:33

She was rather shouty when DH said he would only pick her up by 10.30Hmm But I can see why - TBF, she is owed one really as she couldn't sleepover/have friends over twice this holiday due to it coinciding with us going to PIL's/see friends early the next day.

OP posts:
BackforGood · 01/01/2014 19:33

Shes only 14. Id have said 11 would be late enough.

bigTillyMintspie · 01/01/2014 19:34

She seems to have some sort of aversion to getting in a cab on her own, but was saying she would just get the bus. Not sure about that at after 11pm even though it is a quick route and no walking.

OP posts:
Dollydishus · 01/01/2014 19:38

Realistically if you have 3 extra teen boys in the house you probably aren't going to have a quiet night! Might as well get all the pain over in one go.... Get her at 11 but only on understanding that she is super helpful tomorrow, extra chores etc, as you will be tired. But if she is shouty then lop 10 mins off. I don't mind being kind but I not expect to be shouted at!

motherinferior · 01/01/2014 19:39

Do you have a reliable cab firm you can order one for her?

ILoveOnionRings · 01/01/2014 19:39

As she has missed a couple of events I would pick her up, leave at around 11:30pm.

A tactic I am using with DS when I pick him up from his girlfriends, is to drive over in my pyjamas or onsie then text him when I get there asking if he wants me to ring the bell. It gets him out sharpish Wink

bigTillyMintspie · 01/01/2014 19:42

Yes, we do MI, but she will just say she would rather get the bus. It is apparently very awkward to have to get in a cab on your ownConfused

I am thinking 11.30 is probably the earliest I could trySad
