AIBU to have shamed my mum about her work ethic?

Put simply, my mum was having an almighty moan about her employer this evening. She had many points in this moan, but 2 really didn't sit well with me.

She ranted that her car allowance (a contribution to her insurance) was going to be taken off her, but in practically the same breath stated that she's been claiming petrol costs from them despite having been walking everywhere for 4 months in a slimming attempt.

And in retaliation to being told she couldn't have New Year off work, she's gotten herself signed off sick by the doctor citing a pre-existing condition. She openly told me that she only got herself signed off because they denied her the day off.

I told her that although I can see why certain things were annoying/inconvenient/far from ideal, I didn't really think that after these 2 gems she could take the moral high ground. Many of the things her employer is doing are strictly cost cutting measures and the fact is, employees like her increase running costs and make these measures even more necessary.

I know she's my mum, but surely that doesn't mean I'm expected to act like this kind of thing is ok? She's acting like I've eaten her first born.

Don't think YWBU, I know you said you 'shamed' her but it wasn't harsh and sounds more like she was moaning and you just didn't agree with her actions like maybe she expected you to.

Pretty prevailent attitude at my mums work where a small contingent of long-timers feel they are so badly done to compared to how it used to be (not really - just different economic times) so use their sick allowance as holiday almost. They plot it in as an entitlement regardless of whether they're actually sick.

I don't normally like to stick up for the big companies but they do seem to be trying to make small swallowable cuts in order to preserve the workforce and not having to make drastic cuts - glad my mum see's this.

I'm quite glad that the general consensus is that I'm not a complete twat, I have to say! I'll settle for possibly being a touch insensitive to what it's like to work for a council right now. Especially as me having been performing the Dodging Redundancy Dance in the private sector since we first entered recession means I've not exactly sat untouched by the economic climate

tethers if they repeated the behaviour and thought it was justifiable - absolutely. I'd wait to see what they had to say first, but if they stuck to it I'd want nothing more to do with them.

I work in a third sector organisation and we've had redundancy, loss of allowances and pay cuts. I still don't consider fraud justifiable.
