My ds lost his comfort toy a few weeks ago in a busy shopping place. No one handed it in. Luckily I had a spare but ds was very upset about losing him.

I decided to have a look on ebay as he asked father Christmas for to bring his fluffy back. I was shocked to find loads and loads of different comforters selling at approximately £20 each. Over 4x the price they would have been in the shops.

Aibu to think it is horrid that people are trying to make so much money out of a child losing their toy?

Be pleased its only £20 my dd has a steiff lamb as her comforter (from mil) of all the toys to fall in love with she had to choose the expensiveone, itcost me £45 to get a spare and she won't have anyhtign tl do with it, we call it imposter lamby!

You are still wrong. Those teddies will be bought by lots of people for lots of reasons, the least likely reason will be replacing a lost toy. People buy teddies for new babies, birthdays, xmas, christenings or just as a gift.

You are being very ridiculous.

DeepThought · 29/12/2013 22:22

I think you need to ration your ! useage!

JumpingJackSprat · 29/12/2013 22:25

Lol you don't actually believe what you wrote though do you op? Maybe you should keep an eye on your kids stuff if it's so precious.

Thisismyfirsttime · 29/12/2013 22:25

I don't understand why you seem to think the only possible reason for buying one of these is to replace a lost one!

HaroldTheGoat · 29/12/2013 22:27

Ey? This is really daft OP.

People don't sell things in eBay callously thinking they are to replace children's lost toys.

It's like, a shop.

badtime · 29/12/2013 22:27

OP, you do not know the motivation of any of these sellers, nor do they know the motivation of any buyers. YABU.

HaroldTheGoat · 29/12/2013 22:29

Actually, this is a great idea. I am going to buy ALL the blankies in town tomorrow.

Mwa-haaaa-haaaaa

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 29/12/2013 22:30

But you must only sell them to careless children at massively inflated prices Harold

Wink
HaroldTheGoat · 29/12/2013 22:33

Yep. And I'm going to chop them up and post them bit by bit.

This time next year, I'll be a millionaire.

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 29/12/2013 22:35

They're not bloody psychic. They didn't wake up and think 'oooo LOADS of people are going to lose these so I'll buy them and make more money tee hee heee'

snowsnowohno · 29/12/2013 22:35

I was waiting for someone to say I should have looked after it better! I am not perfect unlike you jumping!

I just find it hard to believe that anyone would spend £20 on a supermarket comforter as a present for a new baby!!! And most of the adverts state get spare for your Childs much loved toy. So I do believe some people are targeting parents who's child has lost their toy and will pay any amount to get them a replacement.

Grin

We could go into business- i could go round 'liberating' blankies from the sleeping careless children and give them a wash and send them to you to sell. Split the profits?

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 29/12/2013 22:38

Well i still have my childhood teddy which has been ds's teddy for 8 years

Exsilisreadingthis · 29/12/2013 22:38

What advert says get a spare for your child's much loved toy?

SourSweets · 29/12/2013 22:38

Oh for goodness sake.

If you want to re-buy the comforter, re-buy it. If you don't then don't.

The end.

snowsnowohno · 29/12/2013 22:39

Ha ha.

Off to bed now with fluffy hope know nasty ebayers come and steal him in the night to sell on. Lol

Goodnight

If it really bothers you OP, if you really feel its awful, then don't buy it. Honestly, people only do this because there are takers.

BrianTheMole · 29/12/2013 22:39

Actually, I think you're right op that people do buy them to cash in often. There is a website dedicated to this, although I can't remember the name of it, and they didn't have the bloody toy I wanted anyway. I was happy to find it on ebay. But, people run this as a business sometimes and they need to turn a profit. So I don't feel cross about it.

YoureBeingASillyBilly · 29/12/2013 22:40

You can believe what you want OP. i know some people feel very comfortable being a victim so if thats what makes you feel good then go for it but its quite absurd to be thinking like that. Paranoid much?

Thisismyfirsttime · 29/12/2013 22:40

You don't think anyone would spend £20 on it in the first place? How did your dc end up with the one they lost then?

Kowalski · 29/12/2013 22:41

I think sellers on Ebay do take advantage of people who automatically go to Ebay first believing it is the cheapest place, without trying anywhere else, especially around Christmas.

However, I don't believe that they deliberately set out to make money from people losing comforters!

Exsilisreadingthis · 29/12/2013 22:41

So if your child loses a comforter and the comforter is still available for sale in, you know, the SHOP, and you go to a proper like emmm real shop to buy it, then is the shop cashing in on the child's lost toy?

Or just, you know, doing what a shop does and selling stuff?

HaroldTheGoat · 29/12/2013 22:43

Sounds like a plan silly.

You can hide in the trolleys in P&C spaces and swipe them.

You wash the tears off and I'll sell them.

What about all those bastards selling second hand cars? Taking advantage of all those poor broken down cars Sad

It's a horrible world out there.

BrianTheMole · 29/12/2013 22:46

Erm, Slightly OTT response there. Hmm
