I think i have a UTI. I am avoiding going to the doctors and trying to drink lots of fluid to flush it out.

I'm don't know if in being rational or if my fear of doctors etc is skewing my judgement.

I feel really weird but i haven't been sleeping so that might be that?

Am i being stupid. Seriously if i am just tell me. I don't mind.

nah, get to the doctors I'm afraid. HTH

DramaAlpaca · 28/12/2013 00:23

How long have you been feeling unwell? If drinking lots of water (maybe try unsweetened cranberry juice as well) doesn't clear it in a couple of days, you really should make an appointment with your GP. You might need a course of antibiotics.

DizzyZebra · 28/12/2013 00:27

Drama i got some cranberry stuff from the health shop and necked loads of it.

It started yesterday with seeing frequently, eased off as i drank more, was fine this morning, and then this afternoon its come back on again and in seeing an awful lot but only little bits.

Ive felt unwell since it came back on but i cant tell whether its tiredness or not.

I had to buy some light tenna lady because in seeing that often i kept worrying i wasn't going to make it.

You could see the nurse practitioner if you are scared of the doctor. I have seen one on the OOH when i had a UTI and he gave me some ABs. Lots of fluid is good but if its really painful or you feel feverish you MUST seek medical attention, these things can turn nasty quickly.

LEMoncehadacatcalledSANTA · 28/12/2013 00:31

If you are feeling unwell you need to see someone, first thing in the morning (I would be at OOH at the first signs if it were me because I go from uncomfortable to agony in the space of a few hours and only ABs will help - the good news is that they work quickly). If you can collect a wee sample that will help, you wont be physically examined so please try to get over the anxiety, maybe some bachs rescue remedy before the appointment? I have an anxiety disorder so i understand how you feel.

Sceptimum · 28/12/2013 00:31

You need antibiotics, sorry. I have a really good immune system normally but couldn't fight it off and spent days getting more and more miserable before I just gave up and saw a doc.

DramaAlpaca · 28/12/2013 00:32

You could be tired because you have an infection, or because you are worried about feeling ill.

Peeing a little bit but wanting to go a lot does sound like a UTI. Definitely keep taking the fluids. I know you said you're afraid of doctors, but I think you need to go. Could someone go with you?

NB: I'm not a medical person, but have had a couple of UTIs in my time. They're not nice at all.

Hope you feel better soon Dizzy.

DizzyZebra · 28/12/2013 00:32

Its mostly that in scared theyll send me to hospital and ill have to leave my baby.

i had a really bad kidney infection once and i was horribly ill and had to stay in hospital but i had no symptoms before i woke up throwing up and having fits.

OP posts:
DramaAlpaca · 28/12/2013 00:34

Yes, definitely take a sample with you as they'll be able to tell from that if you have an infection and won't need to examine you.

trashcanjunkie · 28/12/2013 00:34

dramaalpaca cranberry juice doesn't work I'm afraid Sad It has been shown to be beneficial in possibly preventing uti's from 'sticking' but once you have one it's better to see a health proffesional. Also, if you leave it it can really make you poorly (not overnight!) so you're better of getting help. Good luck!

DizzyZebra · 28/12/2013 00:35

I have this ocd condition about my kids in general. I could tolerate leaving my older two cause ive done that l. Ds1 stayed at home when i had ds 2 obviously. And dd stays with her dad.

Ds2 is only six weeks and breastfed and the thought of leaving him is making me go dizzy and breathe funny. Hed die in my mind. There's no two ways about it. I know that's stupid.

OP posts:
trashcanjunkie · 28/12/2013 00:36

it may be cystitus, which doesn't always need ab, but if you already had a kidney infection in the past, you better not muck about. Poor you op!

DizzyZebra · 28/12/2013 00:38

It was awful trashcan! I was hallucinating and everything. I thought my daughter was trying to eat me so i hid her under the bed.

Luckily her dads mum rang me and twigged something wasn't right and got hold of her dad to come from work.

I'm not on my own though like i was then my OH is here

zebdee · 28/12/2013 00:40

If they did send you to hospital they'd let you take baby due to bfing

LEMoncehadacatcalledSANTA · 28/12/2013 00:47

If you get yourself to the doctor tomorrow morning you'll not be taken to hospital i promise, but i you leave it and it tracks back to your kidneys then that risk is there.

I totally empathise with the anxiety about leaving the DC, i was like this when i had DD2 and it turned out i was suffering from PND. I had to have gallbladder surgery and i insisted that i went in at 4am rather than spend the previous night in hospital, i was hysterical at the thought of leaving her - then when i came round from the OP i had some minor complications and had to be on a morphine drip - i asked to stay another night Grin

Honestly, this is one of those situations where i wouldn't wait, based on your history. As someone upthread says, sometimes a cystitis will pass on its own I would not be taking the chance in your position.

PinkLemons · 28/12/2013 00:55

You really won't need to go to hospital, just some antibiotics or antibacterials. The sooner you treat it the less likely you are to need hospital treatment.

DizzyZebra · 28/12/2013 09:22

Thanks ladies, managed to get some sleep - six solid hours! Most ive had in ages, woke up this morning feeling quite sore so nipped up to the walk in centre and they gave me anti biotics and sent wee off to make sure i don't need different ones too. Ds2 got lots of attention off the lovely nurse :) hopefully they kick in soon.

DizzyZebra · 28/12/2013 09:23

Lemonce lol i think morphine would definitely see my anxiety off haha. Ive had it a couple of times in hospital before.

financialwizard · 28/12/2013 09:28

If you go and get treatment now it won't get to that stage.

I had a pate of about 3 years of constantly getting UTI's. Now I rarely get one but when I do I have to get antibiotics because nothing else works.

Please get treatment asap.

financialwizard · 28/12/2013 09:28

Should have read before posting!

MrsSteptoe · 28/12/2013 09:28

Well done for going, Dizzy. It's never good to ignore UTIs: I once had six lots of antibiotics on the trot from my (in retrospect, rather ineffective) GP before she finally sent me to a specialist. By that time, it had settled into a chronic problem that wouldn't go. Eased after pregnancy ten years ago, but I've been suffering really bad urine retention recently so I fear I have more problems to come.

kali110 · 28/12/2013 09:42

You should see the doc you prob need antibiotics now. For future ref your better off with cranberry capsules than juice

kali110 · 28/12/2013 09:44

Op did they do a dip test?they can usually tell if youve fot some kind of infection by testing your urine by doung tgat straight away
