To wonder why christmas has become a 'fancy dress' party and to want it to stop

seriously, people dressing up their babies as elves and santas and hideous christmas jumpers that are going to be worn once or twice then binned? What a waste of 'stuff'.

YABU OP, it could be much much worse. One of the kids wore her onsie to the house- horrific, I have a onsie for in my house but outside it when meeting others, god no- and then took it off to reveal a very cute christmas jumper and the tiniest hotpants which barely covered her arse cheeks. DM and DF both asked her to put the onsie back on, it was the big time lesser of two evils!

Her DS looked so cute in comparison dressed as santa!

DS, Dbro even.

peroidfeatures I didn't have any of the the things you've complained about. No dressing up, Christmas jumpers etc because personally I really wasn't interested. However I still think you're being a bit of a grump. The key test for me is that someone wearing a Christmas jumper, dressing up etc isn't doing anyone any harm. They can wear what they want AFAIC, why should I care?

TiggyD the queen should put you on the honours list just for coming up with Kerblimbles.

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 27/12/2013 16:32

God forbid someone wants to have a bit of fun.

The name Movember annoys me. The intention is good, the name is annoying.

It's like Sobertober or whatever they were calling it. Annoying.

We had an appointment at an opticians in the shopping centre today. There were children in onesies and men in ironic jumpers all over the place. I was very smiley at all of them in honour of this thread.

Todays ironic jumper and nordic patterned onesie is tomorrow's "my god what was I/were my parents thinking" photograph. We've all got one.

DS has a blue jumper with a white pattern on it. It's not technically a Christmas jumper but my mother keeps muttering about someone called Val Doonican when he wears it but is the woman who thought my brother and I looked adorable in matching polyester brown argyle tank tops when we were younger. There are many awful photographs to prove it.

There's fun and fun. Wearing a Christmas jumper or a onesie would make me extremely unhappy.

I don't like Christmas decorations and never put them up. To me they are ugly and tacky and far from being fun would just be depressing to look at. I do have white lilies, white roses and bunches of evergreens all over the house. It's mildly annoying to be told (and I'm not referring to posters on here but in real life) that I'm not joining in "the fun"

harriet247 · 27/12/2013 18:38

Dd ( 1) was dressed as an elf and looked adorable, only cost 3 quid in George and she can wear it for pj's!We're all happy . except you Sad

I think everyone's just a bit desperate at the moment
Lots of doom and gloom, everyone apart from the 1% skint, etc
So more people are into the little bits of cheap fun
Hence Xmas decks and lights in November, elf hats on the ladies in the co-op, Xmas jumpers... Just trying to jolly ourselves along a bit.

teacherandguideleader · 27/12/2013 20:56

I spent Christmas Day in my Christmas jumper, then after dinner changed into my festive onesie. I don't care what anyone else thinks, I enjoyed wearing them :)

grumpyoldbat · 27/12/2013 21:21

But caitlin everyone enjoys different things. It's not my idea of fun either but I can't see what's so bad about it. It's not doing anyone any harm and they are enjoying themselves. Win win as far as I'm concerned.

Caitlin17 · 27/12/2013 23:13

grumpy that's my point. I don't tell anyone they should not wear their (hideous) fun jumpers.

I do however get told oh you have to have a tree/ put up decorations/join in the fun. It's not fun for me.
