Boxing Day? Aibu?

AIBU to provide a full roast dinner on Boxing Day? It's beef today. Our family have always done this but my (slim) sister in law says we're weird, mostly tongue in cheek, and that most people have light food. Just wondering

Do whatever you want

Absolutelylost · 26/12/2013 10:57

We do but just wondering if we're in the minority. We're not going to stop!

Yanbu. Sounds good!

TheRealAmandaClarke · 26/12/2013 11:00

Scrap your pland and family traditions for a delicious (rib??) roast beef lunch and do it the way your DSisIL wants Xmas Wink

Seriously, who wants tender, pink roasted beef with horseradish, Yorkshire puddings, crisp roast potatoes, gravy......... At this time of abstinence???

Save me a place at your table pls and serve the blasted beef.

BohemianGirl · 26/12/2013 11:01

If I had family round we would have a roast but with new pots and salad.

Because we are on our own today it is cold meat - all left overs from yesterday

TheRealAmandaClarke · 26/12/2013 11:02

We're having cold cuts and pickles today. I love them.
But there's plenty of time for all that isn't there?

BlackDaisies · 26/12/2013 11:03

I agree, do what you want! I think the trouble with boxing day is that loads of people seriously overeat on Christmas Day. I have to admit the thought of eating a roast dinner today makes me feel a bit Xmas Confused Though having said that I'm sure if was cooked for me and put in front of me I'd give it my best shot!

saintmerryweather · 26/12/2013 11:03

We go to a relatives house for xmas day so boxing day we have roast chicken at home

Absolutelylost · 26/12/2013 11:04

Oh I love all the cold cuts too, as you say, plenty of time for all that!

OP posts:
saintmerryweather · 26/12/2013 11:04

Oh roast chicken with all the trimmings we just dont like turkey in this house!

Absolutelylost · 26/12/2013 11:05

And actually, didn't go overly mad yesterday, apart from the prosecco. So have some space!

FunkyBoldRibena · 26/12/2013 11:05

It's light food here but then again, it was a light roast yesterday. Bubble and squeak with veggie sausage shaped items and an egg. Can't wait!

MrsKoala · 26/12/2013 11:05

We always have a kind of second xmas day. Traditionally it was always the day my half sister and my nan came over. So it was presents and festivities all over again. We usually have duck on christmas day and beef wellington on boxing day, but today i am roasting a ham.

We don't have any dinner on xmas eve tho. Just make ourselves a sandwich etc individually, and snack whenever we feel peckish.

Oddsocksrus · 26/12/2013 11:06

It's the holidays, January is there for shifting the pounds, today is a for another really good meal..
We have a lovely roasted gammon, baked spuds, homemade sausages, red cabbage, trifle, cheese cake and mince pies...
Not a day for abstinence.....

Absolutelylost · 26/12/2013 11:08

Actually, ours is like a second Christmas Day too; change of personnel, some going and some more arriving...and some presents left. My older children were with their dad yesterday and are here today so it's nice to make an occasion of it.

MrsKoala · 26/12/2013 11:09

oh and we've just had a breakfast of chopped fried leftovers, (roast spuds, pigs in blankets) chopped mushrooms and onions, and eggs fried in the middle with beans and toast.

A great big ginger cake and cointreau trifle for pud later.

So absolutely no light food here!

FortyMerryFuckers · 26/12/2013 11:10

We have turkey etc again with the ILs

Nanny0gg · 26/12/2013 11:12

Cold turkey, pork, chips/mash and salad and pickles.

Followed by more turkey sandwiches for tea.

Yum.

FurryDogMother · 26/12/2013 11:12

We always have minestrone soup with Parmesan and bread rolls, cold turkey and ham salad with mashed potatoes and pickled walnuts, and then a fruit-based dessert. Lighter than Christmas Day, but still substantial. We'll be having roast beef on New Year's Day, but in between now and then it'll be leftovers and perhaps a takeaway curry. Just had a satsuma for breakfast as it's all I could face after yesterday!

Absolutelylost · 26/12/2013 11:13

Cold cuts, hand made crinkly chips and fried eggs on 27th!

Crinkle77 · 26/12/2013 11:18

We tend to have left overs on Boxing Day but that's because we only have a small family so it's very informal. Personally I would love a roast beef dinner as it's one of my favourites

Lweji · 26/12/2013 11:20

Why would you worry about it?

I probably won't be cooking for a week, but you do what you like.

Absolutelylost · 26/12/2013 11:29

I'm not worrying - I'm curious!

Audilover · 26/12/2013 11:32

We have a turkey roast dinner on Christmas day and a beef roast dinner on boxing day.
I look forward more to the roast beef than the turkey.
We only do turkey on Christmas day because our children like it. When it is just DP and me in years to come we will be having roast beef on Christmas day.

AryaofhouseSnark · 26/12/2013 11:33

We have cold meat, bubble and other snacky bits sausage rolls etc, quiche etc. Its certainly not light though.
