I might not be leaving the condo either. This sofa is comfy, the wifi is fast, the air con is on and it's humid enough outside to feel like a steam room. Just had a MASSIVE twitch though when wrapping presents - DH had to give me a stern talking to or I would have been out the door to the mall faster than you can say Santa Claus.

PacificDingbat · 23/12/2013 20:25

Ach, the twitch - it affects DH much more than me. Our children are all spoilt brats with more stuff than they know what to do with. All they want is to be plugged in to MineCraft anyway... Hmm

I thought all these Florideans started drinking after breakfast?

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 23/12/2013 20:34

Oh, an American mall......

My dad used to live on the Gulf Coast, but on the Panhandle, just outside Pensacola. My mom still lives on the Atlantic Coast, in Jacksonville. She's in San Francisco with my brother though, for Christmas.

Oh...an American Mall....

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 23/12/2013 20:38

The magic that is Minecraft!

American malls are awesome. Ours is called Coastland and on the busiest day of the year - probably - last Saturday - it was empty! I mean compared to Brent Cross or Westfield. We also have the choice of a Vair Posh mall with Saks and lots of designers, an outlet mall, and about a million strip malls. Good thing I am not that much of a shopper or we would be broke every year.

Sparklingbrook · 23/12/2013 20:45

I went to Mall of America a few years ago. It was awesome. Grin

NotTwit · 23/12/2013 20:52

Well my Greek stepdad reckons toothpaste and if you've watched my big fat Greek wedding you'll know that he in fact knows everything.
I haven't ventured out today as it has been pissing it down and really windy and as I'm sure you all know by now i have tonsilitis. Hopefully (yeah right) I can go tomorrow.
I don't think you should leave them then if your gut is telling you not to. I haven't been presented with that dilemma yet Although A friend of mine with a 16 yo dd said she was fine leaving them home together I the day but not at night, which made me laugh as if teens don't do it at the drop of a hat during daylight hours.

NotTwit · 23/12/2013 20:53

What is a strip mall? It isn't what I'm thinking is it?

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 23/12/2013 20:56

Strip mall is a strip of stores, out in the open, rather than all together in a big building.

PacificDingbat · 23/12/2013 20:57

No, it's not, Twit

American Malls are... scary.
I loathe shopping - maybe that's why I don't like them then?

I am still not wrapping presents even though Littlies are in bed and Big Boys are in their pits Minecrafting, what else

Amrapaali · 23/12/2013 21:02

I am with Pacific. Loathe shopping. America or anywhere else. I remember going to a designer outlet mall in Florida. Lovely shops, but the only thing I remember is frozen yoghurt and a fudge factory.

I wasn't like this always. Is this a sign that I am growing up? And becoming, responsible?

conveniently omits fact that I am addicted to online shopping.

NotTwit · 23/12/2013 21:05

So a high street?
I can't be doing with shopping either, I often feel like I'm missing something as most of my female friends love it.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 23/12/2013 21:05

DH helped and we are now Done With The Wrapping. Rejoice, Hallelujah!

DH caved and gave DD1 one of her presents today. It's the kindle version of Mockingjay but still. I was a bit Hmm

I am definitely having a drink in one hour and fifty minutes.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 23/12/2013 21:07

It's weird here. If you are out of the house, you can drink whatever you want whenever you want. But if you're at home you have to wait until 5pm. Otherwise the PIL look at you kind of funny.

PacificDingbat · 23/12/2013 21:09

If you are out of the house, you can drink whatever you want whenever you want
If you are 21... Xmas Hmm

MaryzBoychildCheeszuzCrizpz · 23/12/2013 21:11

I'm still here.

I haven't dared Tesco yet, but I have built an ikea chair and set up an iPad mini, linked it to an Apple id, and sorted out Facebook, Youtube and sundry other aps [proud]

I'm now wondering if Tesco will be better at 7 am so I could start drinking now

Not really like a high street. American doesn't have high streets.

Well, the town I grew up in did 30 years ago. It doesn't really now.

It's hard to explain, really.

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 23/12/2013 21:14

Strip malls

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 23/12/2013 21:16

No not like a high street - a strip mall is usually on a really busy road like a 6 lane divided highway, with lots of parking in front of it. You drive in, park, get out and shop in those 12 stores (or however many) then get back in your car and drive to the next one you want to go to.

Naples (where we are in FL) is a bit unusual in that it does have a "high street" as well, although it is called downtown.

MaryzBoychildCheeszuzCrizpz · 23/12/2013 21:20

So a strip mall is like a mahoosive high street, so big that you have to drive down it rather than walk. Sort of.

For me, the more shops and the more variety there is the less likely I am to buy anything. If I go to one of the really big centres near here I get flummoxed and end up having a coffee and leaving.

Twit, I know I can't stop them actually doing anything if they want to, but I sort of feel I ought to keep half an eye Hmm

I'm not too good at this teenagery stuff. It seems you are damned if you do and damned if you don't do anything.

ginslinger · 23/12/2013 21:23

Gin is here slinging it around - hello

PacificDingbat · 23/12/2013 21:25

I'm not too good at this teenagery stuff

There's self-depreciating and then there is that

I totally get overwhelmed by choice - I'd've done well under some kind of totalitarian regime: "Here's what yer getting, and be happy about it". I probably would be.
Except I hate being told what to do... Hm. Gulag for me then

PacificDingbat · 23/12/2013 21:25

Hi, Slinger

NotTwit · 23/12/2013 21:26

Ah, I see thank you. It all seems very busy, I think it would do my head in. I like walking to school, then on to fecking tesco (only supermarket) and on into town, along the high street then back home. Nice and easy, lots of familiar faces and if you're lucky, not too much dog shit.
I need to do more wrapping, but babyTwit needs less sleep than I do apparently and so keeps me up away from doing it.
On the bright side I have finished ds1s Christmas bag and am starting dds.

NotTwit · 23/12/2013 21:30

Yup, damned if you do, damned if you don't. But I have read some of you posts on the teenage section and you seem so... Attuned to the whole thing. Is that the right word? I don't know, but I would buy a book if you wrote it that's for sure.

ginslinger · 23/12/2013 21:30

Hello pacific -
