To think Santa present should be wrapped in different paper

AIBU? DS are 2.3 and 11 weeks. DH thinks that as they are so young it doesn't matter, I disagree.

Different paper here, but mainly because I enjoy the nostalgia of the cheap ten-sheets-for-a-pound patterns from the pop-up Christmas shop in town:o

It is lovely reading all the traditions and differences between families :D

ComeIntoTheGardenMaud · 23/12/2013 22:07

When she was two and a bit, DD interrogated me about why FC and I used the same paper. I told her that the elves and I shopped at the same 99p Store exclusive emporium.

ZeViteVitchofCwismas · 23/12/2013 22:28

Always in different paper, always!

My DH said she wouldnt notice, I didnt listen to that crap and did it in differnet paper and thank god,she was three and noticed.

Santa has designated secret hidden paper here. DD would definitely notice if same paper was used.

Pixel · 23/12/2013 23:01

*kids do list and send to santa
*santa tells parents what kids want + santa chooses ONE thing to send kids
*parents buy presents and paper
*presents and paper go to santa and the elves wrap everything
*santa delivers all presents on xmas eve

All sounds a bit complicated to me! And what's the point of sending the presents and paper to Santa so he can send them back again? Think my dd would have seen through this straight away Grin.

Panzee · 23/12/2013 23:07

Santa has special paper with Santas on. That's how you know he sent it.

DalmationDots · 23/12/2013 23:09

DC are now 21 and 23 so a while ago now (although we still do stockings and DC make me one too :D)

Stocking is from santa as it is the thing left by the fire place with mince pie and carrots. It is all wrapped in one paper which is not used for any other presents. (Stopped bothering with this wrapping paper planning when the kids reached 8/9).
I wrapped each stocking present separately even though it is just pencils/chocolate/rubbers etc. just so that stockings took a bit longer :)
Stockings are left downstairs and so in the morning once we are all up (usually was quite early!) we then all went down and did them before getting dressed and breakfast.
After breakfast done and lunch prepared we then would do big presents and do turn taking for this to drag it out longer. DC never objected as it was the norm every year.
The tree presents are all from mum/dad/relatives/friends and DC know that, didn't think they were from santa.

No idea how these traditions emerged but I like it this way :)

MsJupiterJones · 23/12/2013 23:16

My mum used to use novelty Christmas sellotape and apparently I commented at age 3 how funny it was that Father Xmas used the same tape. She was convinced I had sussed it but I think I was oblivious.

FunnysInLaJardin · 23/12/2013 23:21

yes, had to make a point of it after DS1 asked when he was 4 why FC had the same paper as us. Now FC has different paper!

ShoeWhore · 23/12/2013 23:25

Oh of course Santa uses different paper to us!

HouseAtreides · 23/12/2013 23:36

Santa uses poncy lovely paper different from all other presents here, currently nice V&A paper in an arts and crafts style. He only leaves one present. The rest are rom family and friends! :)

invicta · 23/12/2013 23:41

Always use different paper, usually with Santa pictures on it. I nude it so kids don't see it before.

We wrap all the kids presents in paper we bought years ago in toys r us it's just lovely seeing 3 piles all the same does mean u have to be extra organised when wrapping tho ;-/

threestars · 24/12/2013 00:56

Always different paper. Apart from this year when I wasn't organised enough to buy extra. And DC are old enough to question (esp. the 9 year old). But it's plainish and v. common, I will tell them. What good taste we have to use the same paper as Father Christmas.

notquitenormal · 24/12/2013 01:05

Santa brings one present and uses brown parcel paper decorated with snowflake stamps.

ravenAK · 24/12/2013 01:14

Santa brings stocking tat (unvvrapped) & one decent present, vvhich he vvraps in situ vvhilst enjoying a mince pie & Scotch.

Santa usually uses different paper to Mum & Dad, but sometimes he has already got stuck in to the festive vvhisky a tad too enthusiastically if vve are late on his route (corroborated via NORAD, as kids nod sadly, poor tired pissed Santa!), & absent-mindedly leaves it on the sleigh.

VVhen this happens, it's lucky that mum alvvays leaves spare paper out to save him clambering back up the chimney to retrieve his ovvn paper.

Freddiefrog · 24/12/2013 01:22

We have separate Santa paper and it's well hidden

I made a rookie mistake a few years ago and DD2 clocked the Santa paper when I'd run out of the normal stuff and thought I'd risk wrapping DH's nephew's present in it.

We didn't exchange gifts with SiL's lot until 4 days after Christmas and DD had the wrapping paper off her stocking presents so quick I didn't think she'd even noticed the paper, let alone remember it several days later

She noticed.

goldenlula · 24/12/2013 01:31

I wrap each child's presents in different colour papers to make sorting easier and it is different to the paper I use on presents from us. Ds1 is red, ds2 is blue and dd is pink, their favourite colours (well the boys favourite colours and dd's because that was the other colour I could get a the time. YANBU!

Mellowandfruitful · 24/12/2013 02:04

Yes, Santa uses different paper here. It changes every year though so that he's not stuck if he can't get any more of the same, but it always has a picture of him on it. No tags as his are clearly in the middle of the floor away from the others, near the hearth. You can only request three presents from Santa and those can't be changed once you've written and posted the letter, so he doesn't get caught out with any last-minute requests or changes of heart Xmas Wink

This year I have used last year's roll to wrap our presents in, but reckon I can pull that off. Will probably need to be more cautious next year though.

workhouse · 24/12/2013 02:37

Oh yes, Father Christmas has used paper that cost 14p a roll from Sainsbury's this year, he doesn't waste money on the good stuff! DC are 15 and 9 and still haven't admitted they know FC doesn't really exist Xmas Smile

MrsAMerrick · 24/12/2013 02:45

Father Chrismas always used different paper to us, usually with pictures of self, but he only ever brought the stocking presents, thus leading to ds1 saying plaintively at age 6, "FC gave Henry (friend) a bike for Christmas, but he only gave me some books and crayons".

dc now both teens, FC still brings stockings but doesn't wrap everything in them . The things he does wrap, he wraps in newspaper because he's very into recycling.....
