To think Asda shouldn't take all my money before Christmas and then not deliver my order?

Had an order for this morning, £140 of Christmas food. It never arrived, and it seems they've cancelled it. They didn't tell me, btw, it took an hour of chasing to find that out.

They've 'returned' my money but it will take up to three days to clear. Bit late then.

How are they allowed to do that?!

Feeling smug. Did the Christmas shop at Tesco at 6.00 am today. Also feeling a bit jaded at the moment, but can look forward to putting my feet up later, safe in the knowledge that there is sherry in the fridge.

Why would you write this on the thread of someone who's £140 out of pocket and without their Christmas food two days before Christmas? Good for you.

Hmm

ddub

The store were even less helpful, we tried that first. Hung up on DP twice, then promised to call me back and I'm still waiting on that one!

Thanks all - I'm sorry it's happened to others and happening still.

The Tesco grocery delivery service is splendid. My Christmas has just arrived exactly as ordered, delivered by a very wet but still cheerful chap. Can't fault them at all and have been buying food online for over a year now. When I was obviously very ill a couple of the drivers unpacked and stashed away all the food and then put the rubbish out for the dustmen. No fuss, just kind.

If there's one thing I've learnt from MN, it's not to shop with Asda with anything except cash in-store. Flowers I'm glad you're going to be able to get the stuff in the shops.

After another thread about Asda, one MNer on a tight budget figured out that it had been Asda's ghost payment system that had landed her with unexpected bank charges for going into her overdraft. Angry with Asda

Dillydollydaydream · 23/12/2013 16:32

Thats so crappy.
I'm glad you managed to go out and rebuy your christmas shop but like you say, you might not have had the money to do so and would be totally screwed Xmas Angry

Asda you suck!
I definitely won't be using them, heard too many bad reports on MN.

NiceTabard · 23/12/2013 16:53

ASDA have a LOT of form for this. It's atrocious behaviour. Esp in cases where people are SKINT are there are kids and people aren't going to get food for days because of their utter lack of any conception of customer care.

I use Ocado and they are great. Branded stuff is all price matched to another supermarket (tesco/sainsbury or something I forget which).

Hermione123 · 23/12/2013 16:58

I'd a?so go in and ask at customer services in your nearest branch for compensation, it's appalling...

MyLeftElbow · 23/12/2013 17:07

So sorry this has happened to you, it happened to me in 2010 and left me with no money for nappies. It was a nightmare, ended up having to borrow money until the refund went in.

It's not as easy as Asda having the money, they haven't got it either. What has happened is that they have "earmarked" the funds with your bank, who are holding it pending Asda claiming it. If Asda don't claim it within a certain amount of time, then it goes back into your cleared funds.

Not much help at all when you're stuck. I really hope you can get some help or access to funds soon.

It is a really flawed, crappy system and I can't believe that they are still doing this to people.

I haven't done online shopping with them since - I switched to Sainsburys. They don't take the money in the same way as Asda - they actually scan each item as they are packing and produce a proper till receipt - and once your shopping is packed and ready to go, your card is charged. So much easier!

QueenStromba · 23/12/2013 18:50

I don't shop with ASDA anymore because I've seen far too many stories like this on MN. The last one I saw had paid for a similar priced shop, it was cancelled and she had no money to buy more food. I can't believe they could so glibly do this to someone two days before Christmas though - I was so happy to read that you had the money to do another shop. The major inconvenience of having to do in store two days before Christmas when you thought you had in done and dusted is beyond the pale though.

ShinyBauble · 23/12/2013 19:03

ASDA used to substitute brand items for cheaper own brand items in my shopping, and not even list it on the invoice. And the online customer services staff are snarky bastards.

I finally had enough of ASDA when my shopping came and I realised that my bottle of washing up liquid had been diluted with water!

I shop with Tesco online now (because I got a half price deal on the free delivery pass) and they're better. Not perfect, but definitely better.
