I swear it would cut down the gift wrapping time by half. Or can anyone suggest a neat way to wrap a circular present? It has definitely escaped me.

YANBU. Can you sort of foof up the top and put a ribbon on it?

FreyaFridays · 23/12/2013 00:07

I agree wholeheartedly. My wrapping looks beautiful on oblongs... anything remotely more exotic in shape, and I may as well tell people the dog wrapped it.

Bought mum a very beautiful teacup and saucer set for Christmas... didn't come in a fecking box, did it? Putting that one off for another evening...

BackforGood · 23/12/2013 00:07

YANBU - I think the same thought every year.
Gift bags have helped to some extent, but then they are never th right size, are they ?

aquashiv · 23/12/2013 00:09

so true put it in an oblong box

Rissolesfortea · 23/12/2013 00:09

Ever tried wrapping a football?

NoComet · 23/12/2013 00:10

DD1 is muttering gift bag, she has a clear cellophane tied with a ribbon something (probably sweets from our old fashioned sweet shop) and can't work out how to wrap it.

AntiJamDidi · 23/12/2013 00:13

I would like to point out that an oblong is a 2D shape and is therefore flat. I hope you meant cuboid because that is 3D and a much nicer 'box' shape, I can fit a lot more interesting presents into a cuboid than an oblong.

Now that I've indulged my pedantic side, YANBU about the concept. I do think that regular shaped boxes are fantastic to wrap whereas balls and other odd shapes aren't.

YANBU

I hate wrapping.

pixwix · 23/12/2013 00:16

Pmsl @ the dog wrapping freyas presents Grin

BlackDaisies · 23/12/2013 00:16

My wrapping is always appalling, oblong or not. I'm always waiting for the day that dd will openly wonder why Father Christmas is as rubbish at wrapping as her mummy is. I always sort of throw the wrapping at the presents and push down the ends with sellotape. I suppose the upside is it doesn't really matter what shape it is with that approach.

deeplybaffled · 23/12/2013 00:24

Mmmm. Fair point re cuboids. Although looking at the mess I made of the sphere, I suspect even an oblong would have been better!
and oblong is a splendid word. :)

I would right now quite happily murder the person who requested a paella pan. Any suggestions for wrapping it?

scripsi · 23/12/2013 00:52

I am heading off to find gift bags tomorrow, I am declaring defeat.

trinity0097 · 23/12/2013 06:43

I wrapped a pan today, big sheet of paper, with pan in the middle, I kept folding up paper around the pan and sticking it on, not hugely pretty, but did the job!

And that is why I have spent the year accumulating a stack of shoe boxes and Amazon boxea of every size.

DH has a real issue with wrapping nothing he wraps ever leaves the house and I caught him using a ruler to measure the paper and rip it straight. Apparently this is the year he's got the nack of it. We shall see Hmm

raisah · 23/12/2013 07:08

I collect boxes throughout the year for this purpose. I now have q reputation for this at work so my colleagues always ask me before putting a box in the recycling. They know what will happen if they don't....!

Smoorikins · 23/12/2013 07:09

Round and tube shapes, I often wrap up like sweets/crackers as its easier and makes it look more festive.

raisah · 23/12/2013 07:11

Trinity next time you wrap a frying pan, secure it between two flat sheets of cardboard (flattened box) & then wrap!

welshnat · 23/12/2013 07:17

I guess I'm in the minority because I love wrapping Grin

Everyone in my family gives me their presents (apart from mine) to wrap and I spend an entire evening doing it listening to Christmas music and drinking wine - my idea of bliss.

I second the "cracker" method for round presents and wine. Wrap it like normal, twist the left over wrapping at the top and sellotape.

Fell free to send me any and all presents to wrap in future - you can pay me in malteasers!

NickyNackyNooNoo · 23/12/2013 07:20

My wrapping is totally rubbish, I often say the DCs did it Grin tbf they are old enough now to do a better job Wink

My time goes into buying the presents not wrapping them Grin

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 23/12/2013 07:22

::cue wavy lines to indicate moving back into her memory::

Here I am, at Target in the US, and along with the types of wrapping, there are packages and packages if boxes in all sizes, wrapped together in plastic, priced reasonably.

sigh

Oh how I miss those.

Snog · 23/12/2013 07:48

cut a larger circle to wrap a circle (draw around a plate or similar) or use a wrapping cloth (scarf or square of material as used in Japan) - see internet for how to tie Smile
