I swear it would cut down the gift wrapping time by half. Or can anyone suggest a neat way to wrap a circular present? It has definitely escaped me.

You clearly didn't watch Alex 'The Fixer's' guide to fabulooooous wrapping.
Pleats is the way to go with cylindrical gifts.

Precisely Why I bought Charbonnel and Walker chocs in a box yesterday and not a top hat or round tub!

The Works shops have a pack with sellophane bag, tissue and bow for awkward shaped stuff, says plant wrapping but would suit a few things I suppose.

I had to wrap a football last night. Thank god he's only 6 so won't notice the hideous wrapping. Hopefully he will get round the 1/2 roll of Sellotape it took! Blush

I put all my presents into boxes then wrap the boxes. It makes them look so neat.

SmiteYouWithThunderbolts · 23/12/2013 11:57

I bought dd a pretty lamp. Doesn't come in a box. Couldn't be arsed to buy a gift box for it. Spent 45 minutes getting progressively more sweary whilst trying to wrap it, and now it looks shit but the fucker is wrapped.

YANBU.

Get lots of tissue paper.

save a couple of sheets.
ball up the rest and put on top and bottom so you have a sphere.

put the two spare sheets on the table/floor, put the sphere in the centre and then gather tightly so you have a ball of tissue with long fancy ends of tissue paper.

A bit like a knapsack - the old fashioned made with cloth but tighter

Put a bow round the 'neck'.

works for anything that is an odd shape.

You can also make it look like a giant sweet.

Ever tried wrapping a football?

Just leave out the padding stage

A tube / cylinder is easy:

Wrap the paper around the tube lengthways and stick down;
Make sure you have the same amount of paper at each end;
Cut the paper down towards the end of the present so you have 'fingers' of paper all the way round (width depends on size of present, but usually 1-3 cm);
Once you've got all the way round, fold the 'fingers' in on themselves and tape.

Doing this will mean that the end is papered neatly without gaps. :-)
