to wish long distance friends would write a few lines in their Christmas cards and not just 'happy Christmas from xxx'

I know everyone is busy but if you're going to go to the bother of sending a card from Australia or even that London, then why not write a couple of sentences to say how you are.I get disappointed by this every year..open the card and just their names in it . Although a round robin would be worse I suppose

Relatives and I both used to, but I think we all got a bit fed up, so now it is just the basic.
Plus other closer relatives keep the family news updated, so I think we are all relatively up to date with news.

I am with LLL.

I do moan about RRs, but actually, like the poster above, I secretly like them - I got one this week that was so awful that I sent it round my colleagues for a giggle (haven't yet posted it on the RR thread as she might be on MN). We met them once at a party last year!! The wonderful couple who used to send us classic RRs sadly got divorced last year Shock Their marital concerns hadn't featured in the previous year's RR.

A few words to those who you don't see regularly is great. And I do stick a small pic of the boys in my cards. We have a lot of rellys we don't see regularly, and they do appreciate it. Maybe some people think we're prats, but I don't care!

Ooo mumof2222 is there a round robin thread? Can you post a link,

mashyup I guess that makes me needy too Grin because I like a nice bit of news! I suppose in principle Round Robins can be a practical way of not having to write the same news 40 times but when they become so cringeworthy I just want to chuck them in the bin not read them.

Bunbaker · 20/12/2013 07:21

Because I CBA. I posted over 30 cards this year, and it was a slog to write them.

I'm with the OP.

DHs old school friend (not seen for 30yrs) just addresses the card to Mr dh initial surname - and just signs his name inside - no greeting no how are you. I find this very odd - we have been together 17 years and have 3 kids. we send a round robin out. OK, so I have never even met him but then, why is he bothering to send DH a card at all if he is that disinterested in his life?? all we know is his address, not even what he does for a living now or whether he is in a relationship. it seems quite "cold" somehow?
