Couldn't make dentist appt - are they annoyed?

Basically my kids had check-up appointments at the dentist after school but I couldn't make it. I completely forgot to phone them up (my fault I know).

They phoned up the day before to confirm and I did say I would be there. They haven't rang me up either to find out why I couldn't make it. Normally they would call if you are 15 mins late but they didn't.

Should I ring them up or not? They have their next check-up appointment in 6 months time (May). Should I wait to see if they send me a reminder like they normally do or not?

I'd ring and apologise.

Hohohowhatfuckeryitis · 16/12/2013 18:52

Yes, I did that and got removed from the list. so grovel

pianodoodle · 16/12/2013 18:52

I'd phone them to check. At our dentist they'll actually take you off the list of patients again and you'd have to wait to get back on if you don't turn up.

They might have sent a letter out if that's the case.

DingbatsFur · 16/12/2013 18:53

Call them or they will charge you.

bengal38 · 16/12/2013 18:53

It's on the NHS so children under 16 don't pay

Why wouldn't you just ring as soon as possible after remembering? Not sure why you are asking MN?

LittleRedDinosaur · 16/12/2013 18:57

I'd call and apologise as they could remove you from their list (although in reality I imagine they are probably happy when there's a bit of catch up time if someone doesn't show up?)

DeepThought · 16/12/2013 19:00

Please ring and yes you may be removed so heaps of grovelling

Yes, call and apologise and hopefully you won't be removed from their list.

Bluebell99 · 16/12/2013 20:06

I went to the dentist today and there was a sign up saying if you miss two appointments without giving notice they will take you off the list. I would ring and apologise

RaspberryRuffle · 16/12/2013 20:06

Yes call and apologise. But not just so you can stay on the list. Do it because it is basic manners. And a good example to your children as well as better for their oral health not to wait until May to see the dentist (if they don't remove you from the practice).

FortyDoorsToNowhere · 16/12/2013 20:10

DS was ill, up all night being sick and I phoned the dentist who said a letter would still be sent out as it was automated,( have to give 24 hours notice) but as i phoned he could then use that appointment for someone who needed it.

Phone up and apologize its good manors

bengal38 · 16/12/2013 20:26

Their appointment was on the 13 November. Would they write out a letter or phone up saying they are off the list?

Anniemousse · 16/12/2013 20:29

No they don't have to tell you that your are off the list. And it is a business, they are paid for their activity, so multiple people failing to attend is not some catch up time they are glad of.

LittleRedDinosaur · 16/12/2013 20:41

Oops sorry anniemousse

Debs75 · 16/12/2013 20:57

You have probably been struck off the list now.

I would ring and apologise profusely and see what happens. If they are like most NHS dentists they will have a queue a mile long and could well of given your places to someone else. Might be worth googling NHS dentists with waiting lists in your area

ToddleWaddle · 16/12/2013 21:02

They should not remove you for one failed appointment but if it happens again depending on their policies they may.
If you are happy with the practice ring and grovel.

arethereanyleftatall · 16/12/2013 21:05

So, it hasn't occurred to you yet to phone up and apologise for, wasting at least 20 minutes of a dentist plus nurses time?

goodasitgets · 16/12/2013 21:11

My dentist is a one strike and you're out

drivingmisslazy · 16/12/2013 21:15

Can not believe you wouldn't phone up and apologize.

judgejudithjudy · 16/12/2013 21:16

by the sounds of it youve done it before (normally ring 15 mins after the app) & yabu to expect a phonecall. dentists apps are like hens teeth so i would phone & grovel.

CaterpillarCara · 16/12/2013 21:18

You should phone and apologise! I had to cancel on the day (chicken pox) and they were fine with it but needed / wanted to know.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 16/12/2013 21:25

Just phone. .if you phoned me at work and apologised I'd say "that's OK.these things happen".

HyvaPaiva · 16/12/2013 21:29

Why wouldn't you call and apologize? It's rude, time-wasting and a real inconvenience for other patients who need appointments but can't get in because you make and break yours.
