I thought the title said pizza express.

I was very confused Confused

I have only had half a glass if wine as well.

Shorty1980 · 15/12/2013 18:37

YANBU. I don't get it. Are all the adults on the train Tom Hanks? Why? What's the point of the lost ticket? Am I supposed to have learnt an important lesson about Christmas? If so, what is it? Give me Muppets Christmas Carol any day...

Both me and DD loved this film when she was young. Weird and freaky was our thing and at 17 she hasn't changed...

revivingshower · 15/12/2013 19:08

My favourite is still Elf, but at the moment my favourite kids film is The Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists! Its not very Christmassy I know, but its great.

meboo · 15/12/2013 19:09

Our favourite film for xmas, we have a special day next weekend where we go out and buy goodies and get the duvets and all curl up to watch it. its amazing.

SelfRighteousPrissyPants · 15/12/2013 19:11

YANBU we watched about a minute of it- admittedly not the beginning, but it looked weird so we put scooby-doo on Grin

RandallFloyd · 15/12/2013 19:13

I've never seen it. My sister keeps ravaging about it so I always felt like I was missing out but now I'm not so sure.

Is it dark in a cool Nightmare Before Christmas way?

MrsCakesPremonition · 15/12/2013 19:29

I don't like the way that the characters look like Tom Hanks because they are Tom Hanks - freaky.

NotAsTired · 15/12/2013 19:35

The animation is way too freaky. If it had real people in it rather than those weird animation, maybe it would have worked. We only lasted 20 minutes.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 15/12/2013 19:43

Bloody love that film, it's my favourite Christmas film ever!

My dses don't like it though, I have to watch it alone Xmas Sad

Elf is shit IMO, too sweet and syrupy for me!

Hassled · 15/12/2013 19:48

YANBU - it really is weird and freaky. That scene with the dead puppets in the train carriage - that's a nightmare just waiting to happen. And yes, it's the definition of Uncanny Valley.

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 15/12/2013 20:18

But that's the sort of stuff that makes it so much more interesting than the crap that is Elf. It's not saccharinely sickly sweet, it's an adventure. The train is mysterious and the people are a bit more gritty and the kids actually get to do stuff! It puts me a little bit in mind of Discworld, especially the elves. They really do look like hard working people that have been slaving away over toys all year. Xmas Grin

ScatterGotStuckUpTheChimney · 15/12/2013 20:42

I love the score, the actual film I can take or leave.

ShinyBauble · 15/12/2013 20:45

The characters all look soulless and 'other'. I don't know why they had to animate them like that. I also don't understand why a train that ferries children to the North Pole is haunted by a malevolent ghost, that's not heartwarming!

thegraduand · 15/12/2013 20:53

DD sat through it beautifully, she loved it, but it definitely looked a bit odd. I'm just gutted I can't watch Elf as we don't have Sky and the DVD player isn't working at the moment, so can't watch that

MrsRebeccaDanvers · 15/12/2013 20:57

Don't like it at all and neither did DC. The characters looked freaky and soulless, the adults were horrid and the elves looked cruel

thistooshallpasswontit · 15/12/2013 21:04

Yanbu! We watched this yesterday with our 3 and 5 year old-they were scared the whole way through "where are the grown ups, will they get to go home, who is the ghost man" and they both cried when the Scrooge puppet started ranting. We watched till the end in the hope it would be a happy one but it was a bit meh. Won't be watching it again!!!

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 15/12/2013 21:04

Dont understand why its freaky or scary or disturbing. I really can't see whats weird about it. Maybe thats just me though.

Its not my favourite Christmas film, but it is one I and the rest of my family enjoy.

olibeansmummy · 15/12/2013 21:15

I did like it, but it did occur to me that it goes against everything we teach children about stranger danger! The message seems to be that if a strange man appears in the middle of the night and offers to take you on a train ride to visit Santa while your parents sleep, you should definitely go with him...

MrsSchadenfreude · 15/12/2013 21:44

I love it. One of my favourites, and I am a sucker for a good cheesy Christmas film. I always think of the little girl as a young Michelle Obama. Grin

Plumpysoft · 15/12/2013 22:40

Awful awful awful

wiltingfast · 15/12/2013 23:03

Have to say I like it, though I agree the animation is a bit odd at first.

I like that it's a bit dark, it's like fairy tales of old, they weren't exactly heartwarming either.

It's v different to the usual saccharine fare.

My dc LOVE it. We have the dvd.

Does no one else find Elf pretty creepy? I mean, Will Ferrell in an elf costume? Really?
