Every staff member in Tesco was wearing one today. They are all over the shops.
They aren't even funny any more. Enough.

I don't get it. Its too early. DS1's jumper is going on him for his christmas party at playgroup, and christmas morning and boxing day morning for photos with the grandparents. Why is everyone wearing them already?

Pascha · 14/12/2013 10:11

(DS1 is 3, BTW, not 15. He will wear it because I tell him to)

(DS2 is 11 months, he's got a christmas pudding suit. He's also got no choice)

Sparklingbrook · 14/12/2013 10:12

I have no idea Pascha. my two have a Christmas t shirt that they will wear on Christmas Day.

Have Tesco bought all their staff a jumper do you think?

I hate them. Last year our friends popped round for a mince pie and small sherry...I opened the door to them all in awful Christmas jumpers and Santa hats, even the baby! Bless them, they were entirely appropriately dressed, but I wanted to hide them in a cupboard!

fatlazymummy · 14/12/2013 10:15

Am I the only person who hasn't bought a christmas jumper, either for myself or my kids? I don't get the point of them. I like to wear my clothes all year round according to the weather and a christmas jumper is going to look a bit silly in April or May.

Pascha · 14/12/2013 10:16

I'd rather see them in costume than wearing a faux-stylish high street jumper. As if its perfectly ok to wear them in daylight instead of proper tops.

TheGirlOnTheLanding · 14/12/2013 10:26

My understanding is that Tesco have ordered their staff to wear Christmas jumpers this year with the misguided notion it makes them look jolly and approachable - rather than awkward and slightly embarrassed. They haven't bought them for them either. I am very glad I don't work for them.

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 14/12/2013 10:28

We've all got Christmas jumpers. I think they're funny.

Sparklingbrook · 14/12/2013 10:28

Oh no Girl, you have to buy one. Shock

I can't remember where I was where all the staff were wearing elf hats-that seemed not too bad.

I think it was Christmas Jumper day to raise money for Save the Children yesterday. No excuse for earlier in the week though!

usualsuspect · 14/12/2013 10:41

It was to raise money.

MadeOfStarDust · 14/12/2013 10:44

Am also in retail.... We get told to wear a Christmas jumper on Sat afternoon and on Christmas Eve (not compulsory... but considered bad form and a bit humbugish if you do not conform) .

Wearing a Christmas hat or headband is COMPULSORY during the last 2 weeks before Christmas, we get an edict from remote management on-high! (bet they don't wear them!)

Sparklingbrook · 14/12/2013 10:51

Christmas Jumper Day was yesterday. DS2's school did it. But I was in Tesco this morning and all staff were wearing them. Confused

SkinnybitchWannabe · 14/12/2013 11:20

Thegirl I work for Tesco and we havent been 'ordered' to wear Christmas jumpers.
Some people like them..some don't.
Who gives a crap.

Financeprincess · 14/12/2013 11:26

I am confounded by Christmas jumpers. Are they just another way to make us buy stuff?

BananaNotPeelingWell · 14/12/2013 11:30

Another couple of weeks and they'll all be in the charity shops.

MoreThanChristmasCrackers · 14/12/2013 11:32

I haven't bought any for my family as nobody wants one. I have bought ds2 19 a santa onesie that plays jingle bells from Primark and he loves it. It's fancy dress for work related things though.
I think they are fine if you want to wear one, people can look good in them sometimes.
I think matching jumpers for family photos is daft though Xmas Smile

Sparklingbrook · 14/12/2013 11:39

Skinny that sounds a bit arsey. Sad

OP posts:
CajaDeLaMemoria · 14/12/2013 11:39

The big 4 supermarkets are 'encouraging' staff to get a lot of wear out of the charity jumpers from yesterday. That's why they are still out in force today.

SirChenjin · 14/12/2013 11:45

This is a new thing, isn't it? I can't remember the shops being so full of Christmas jumpers in previous years, but I can't say they really bother me tbh.

MairzyDoats · 14/12/2013 11:47

How come Christmas jumpers are so big this year? Is it just a fashion thing? Or have I simply failed to notice it previously? I won't be buying any because I hate the thought of the waste - they'll be redundant in a couple of weeks! And then what?

ananikifo · 14/12/2013 11:50

I also think they're wasteful. DH and I don't buy a lot of clothes for ourselves so I was annoyed when he went out and spent money on an ugly Christmas jumper.

Hollyandbooze · 14/12/2013 11:51

Flies in the face of ethical consumerism, plus, they seem to be so popular now that instead of being knowingly ironic they just seem unimaginative.

HoHolepew · 14/12/2013 11:51

I have one and it's ace, a black sweatshirt with Rudolphs face in sequins and Ho Ho Ho, also in sequins . I do work with kids though Grin.

Heartbrokenmum73 · 14/12/2013 11:52

They all had them on Tesco yesterday near me, but they were doing a big Diabetes UK thing and had stalls in the lobby, free mince pies (DD was very appreciative Grin) and they all seemed happy enough.

But this is a Tesco where all the staff are local and everyone knows everyone else - a real 'community' feeling where I now live - one of the women recognised my DD from a church fete we went to last weekend and gave her a big hug!
