3 in 24 hours isn't enough surely? The rare occasions I've seen a morning poo in a wee-filled night nappy I've almost been sick. Bleurgh!

My ds is just 2 and has a change first thing, then usually mid morning, mid afternoon and at bedtime. Obviously is changed as soon as he poos too. Probably about 5 or 6 a day.

Fairylea · 11/12/2013 18:40

Ds 18 months.... first thing in the morning, about 11 when he wakes from his nap.. After lunch and then before dinner and then before bed.

So I think about 5-6 a day.

I change any poopey ones as soon as I can, straight away if we are home.

JollySparklyGiant · 11/12/2013 18:45

My 2.7yo first thing, after breakfast, lunch time, bed time and whenever he poos. So 4 or 5 a day.

My 15wo every time she poos plus a couple of other times so 8 times a day roughly. I don't change her overnight unless she poos.

I don't think there is a difference between a morning poo and wee filled nappy and a dry poo filled nappy, neither are very nice to look at.

Ds poos like clockwork, in my opinion it would be a huge waste to put a fresh nappy on him just for him to poo in. We change him as soon as he poos so he isn't sitting in it.

His nappies dont leak and he doesn't get nappy rash so I don't see the point in changing him more often, he is a very happy baby so the infrequncy of nappy chnages doesn't seem to be making him unhappy.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 11/12/2013 18:45

As long as dirty nappies are changed immediately I don't think it matters too much as long as they don't leak. Night time nappies are (obviously) on overnight and my DCs never got nappy rash. I would probably say about 5 nappies a day plus extra for poos.

StephenKatzCrackerHat · 11/12/2013 18:48

Wow I must be slack! DD2 is 20 months. I change it first thing, then after her nap, then for bed. Obviously change as soon as she poos but to be honest it normally coincides with a routine chgange anyway.

So 3-4 in a 24 hour period. I did the same for DD1 when she was thgat age and neither of them have had any issues with their skin Confused

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 11/12/2013 18:50

Usually 4-5 times a day, this includes poos. More if he poos more. DS is 22 months. Every 2 hours seems excessive to me.

spilttheteaagain · 11/12/2013 18:51

DD is 2yrs4months. I put a clean nappy on first thing when we get up, after lunch, and before bed (after bath). And after a poo whenever that may come. Or if it leaks. Or if she asks. So prob only about 4 nappies in 24 hours.

bluecheeseforbreakfast · 11/12/2013 18:51

I am interested in why those people who change nappies more often than 3 times a day do it? Is your dc's skin starting to feel wet, like the nappy is full up and not coping with more liquid? Is it because the napy looks bulky? Is it because the thought of wee isn't nice even if it's not touching your child's skin?

pianodoodle · 11/12/2013 18:51

How old are babies being changed every two hours as it does seem excessive, mine have never had nappy rash either, there is a middle ground

I think I probably did this when DD was a newborn and breast feeding every 2 hours as she seemed to do one poo per feed. Usually during the following feed Grin

MsJupiterJones · 11/12/2013 18:53

DS is 13m and we change him:

First thing
Mid morning
Mid afternoon
Bedtime

Plus any poos straight away. I would say 4-5 nappies per day. He has never had nappy rash and I only use cream occasionally. I used to change him more when he was younger but then he used to poo more!

bluecheese my DS went through a phase of really hating nappy changes around 9-10m, we started using pull ups which really helped. It's got easier again but am still using them!

Dogsmom · 11/12/2013 18:53

I used to change her after every 4 hourly bottle when she was young but I was a bit pfb, I then noticed it said they kept babies dry for up to 12 hours so I tried it and they really do!
She's now 9 months old and sleeps from 6pm-8am so that one is on 14 hours but never leaks or causes sore skin then I change her when she poos throughout the day and a fresh one for bed whether pooey or not.

Artandco · 11/12/2013 18:59

5-6 a day. Immediately changed if pooed. Used to put on toilet from very small also at every change so they didn't wee in fresh nappy. They both toilet trained very quickly and easily

Sorry but I do think 3 in 24hrs is disgusting! Your houses must smell like a bad old people's home!

scarletforya · 11/12/2013 18:59

My DD is 18 month old. I would use maybe 10-12 nappies a day. That's maybe 3 or 4 at night and the rest during the daytime. She would never be in the same nappy for longer than an hour or two anyway.

Poos are changed straight away. I have never, ever left her in a pooey nappy, and wet ones are changed as soon as they look spongey.

She's never had nappy rash thankfully but I think that's luck rather than design.

HeffalumpTheFlump · 11/12/2013 19:01

Dd is 9 weeks and we change her at least every three hours usually more. She poos more than normal though because she is on nutramigen (milk for babies with cows milk allergy) so I will have to change her more often than would otherwise be necessary. I have to change her at least once in the night and she has a tendency to poo the minute you put on a clean nappy so we go through quite a lot of them!!

RoganJosh · 11/12/2013 19:07

Immediately after a poo, which is usually first thing. I aim to change it after nap, but often forget. Clean one for bed.

3rd child, none of them have had nappy rash except once with diarrhoea. The urine doesn't touch their skin till it's totally full in my experience so more frequent changes are a bit pointless.

I remember my mum commenting that a nappy wasn't wet to the touch and suggesting that there wasn't wee in it so I wonder if older nappies did need changing more often.

MrsSpencerReid · 11/12/2013 19:16

We change after poo's and always put to bed in a clean one, if DS hasn't pooped by nap time I'll change him when he wakes up. He usually poos when he eats so 4 or 5 a day. He is 19m.

WhereIsMyHat · 11/12/2013 19:17

3-4 times a day, immediately after a poo/ knowing about a poo. He's 16 months.

When he was tiny and feeding every 2 hours he'd need changing as regularly as he'd poo every time! But after that stage 2 hours is excessive and making a shit load of work for yourself.

Why?

hooochycoo · 11/12/2013 19:31

Why?

Because you are teaching a baby that it's ok to soil themselves and carrying them about with a plastic chemically thing full of piss and shit stuck to them. Gross. Just change them regularly and give them the chance to use the toilet/potty.

IneedAsockamnesty · 11/12/2013 19:32

I have 2 babies in nappies.

Straight away if dirty and between about 2/3 hours if not.

I just don't like the idea of them sitting in wee

DeckTheHallsWithBoughsOfHorry · 11/12/2013 19:34

4wo. When he poos or wakes, although might miss one at night if I'm too sleepy to remember.

I've had to stop using cloth because I can't stuff them enough for his long sleeps Confused

So, in cloth it would be every two hours, in paper up to six.

KatAndKit · 11/12/2013 19:34

DS 19m and does not feed in the night so very rare to change in the night unless he has a tummy bug.

i change him first thing, if he isn't very wet i wait till after breakfast. Usually there will be a mid morning change too. He pooes like clockwork right after lunch so another change before nap. One or two nappies in the afternoon and then an ultra dry nappy on for bed. So that is five or six changes. Very rare for it to be more than that and i consider that i change nappies before it becomes necessary. Do not have problems with nappy rash.

i cant imagine changing a toddlers nappy 3 times in the night! On the other hand i hate seeing them in nappies that are so full they are drooping round their knees.

IsThatTrue · 11/12/2013 19:35

DS is 1 and he only normally needs changing twice during the day (one poo, one big wee) and then before bed.

Very rarely do we use more than 3 nappies a day. Never had nappy rash either.

bluecheeseforbreakfast · 11/12/2013 19:35

Because you are teaching a baby that it's ok to soil themselves and carrying them about with a plastic chemically thing full of piss and shit stuck to them. Gross.

But it is ok for the to soil themself, because they are babies and they are wearing nappies that absorb the wee.

The chemicals are still in disposable nappies even when they are 100% dry.
