I'm just wondering what everyone else's costs roughly are, for how many people and whether this includes lunches?

OP posts:
Ragwort · 10/12/2013 17:29

Around £100 for three of us (2 adults one 12 year old) - includes lunches most days - DH & I work from home.

Also includes quite a lot of alcohol Grin.

Agree with define though it is totally meaningless comparing what different people spend on food - some people eat out a lot, some include loads of pet food in their weekly shop, some buy a lot of alcohol/nappies/whatever, some people only buy organic etc etc etc.

I could shop a lot cheaper but eating well is something we all enjoy. Smile

Topseyt · 10/12/2013 17:29

I spend around £80 per week for four people, 5 during university holidays. Good quality meat from the local butcher is in addition, but not too bad.

ProfPlumSpeaking · 10/12/2013 17:29

I am clearly hopeless. I spend about £300-350 per week at Waitrose plus about £90 on a weekly organic delivery. And then extra on artisanal bread from our local baker. We are 3 or 4 adults (one DC at uni so here occasionally). I have tried to cut back but failed. My only plan is baked potatoes and baked beans and/or omelettes every night for a week and to give £100 pp out as a reward for not complaining. We can afford it but it seems like such a lot of money.

It does include cat food and loo roll in case you are wondering Wink but not alcohol. And we rarely eat out so all the food gets eaten (hmmm...going out might be cheaper actually).

formerbabe · 10/12/2013 17:30

£200 a week for us...we are a family of four. I have tried to cut it down but can't!

ZombiePenguin · 10/12/2013 17:30

And that includes lunches for teen, and both adults (not the younger DC). It doesn't include toiletries, loo roll etc;- total household spend on everything like that is about £45.

superzero · 10/12/2013 17:31

About £70 in Aldi & £30-£40 as top-up shop in Waitrose/M&S/market.
2 adults,3 small DCs.Includes lunch for everyone except 4 yr old at school.
Don't budget as such but buy v little meat and go for own brand stuff.

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 10/12/2013 17:31

Ave. about £100 for two adults and two teenagers, and I do nip to the shop mmore days than not for stuff we run out of or I've forgotten. That's 13 packed lunches in a week, most of the evening meals unless decide something else mid-week, toiletries (most of) cat food, loo roll, cleaning things, and other shit you buy like candles.

I'm sure it should be less.

IfNotNowThenWhen · 10/12/2013 17:34

Like manicinsomniac, I spend more on food than I "need" to. Mainly because I like to cook/ eat nice food, and if I can do one thing for dc, its feed him good quality nosh. So maybe 50-60 for the two of us, inc cleaning products, and a bottle of wine. I could do it on less if I was prepared to live on food I don't like and isn't very nutritious, but I would be sad. Noone should be ashamed of living well!

Kikibee · 10/12/2013 17:36

Blimey some of you spend a lot, we are a family of 7 and I spend around £100 per week, I meal plan and I use our local butcher for all meat, I also batch cook etc, we don't drink much though :)

Runwayqueen · 10/12/2013 17:36

Most weeks it's £40 for 2 adults, and 3yr old dd. Thats from lidl. Once every 5-6 weeks I'll buy all the toiletries, household cleaning products and replenish larder foods, bill is nearer £80-90. Weekly bill doesn't include all of dp's lunches as he eats like a horse so he tops up his lunches himself

arethereanyleftatall · 10/12/2013 17:37

£200 a week family 2 adults 2 young girls. But, it is our major luxury, pluscwe don't get takeaways or go out much so that includes entertaining at least twice. Also includes toiletries. No processed food and lots of good cuts of meat and fish.

londonrach · 10/12/2013 17:38

Last jan when we had no money at all (and i mean no money as i had only that in my purse and in lldl with calculator). 20-30 pounds per week for everything for two adults but mil did keep popping over with her extra buy one get one free and i dont need the free one so you have it. I gratefully accepted the kitchen roll, toilet paper, apple juice.... This year as we now have enough gor the basics between 50 to 60 for everything. Still shop at lldl and the 99p shop but buying little extras like nicer cheese, chocolate and wine.... Just bought a choc yule log fir example which would have been a no no last year.....last year veg, fruit, meat, milk, bread that it hence why the very low budget...

londonrach · 10/12/2013 17:39

And that low budget included all lunches for dh and me....

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 10/12/2013 17:40

About £150-170 per week.

That is for 2 adults and 2 children (aged 5 and 2 with big appetites). We don't eat out very often, and I'm at home all day - and DH has lunch at home 2-3 days a week so that covers most of our meals.

That doesn't include very much alcohol though, that is extra.

veee123 · 10/12/2013 17:40

110-130 a week for two adults.

CloverkissSparklecheeks · 10/12/2013 17:42

About £100-£120 a week, 2 adults and a 7 and 5 YO who eat as much as me, this doesn't included packed lunches for the DCs as they have school dinners, it includes all food, drink, cleaning products, general toiletries.

hyenafunk · 10/12/2013 17:42

Once every 6 weeks or something we spend £100-110 on our regular shop plus stocking up on washing powder, softener and toiletries. Every week other than that it's on average £70-80 with 2 adults and 3 toddlers. £10 of that is soya milk alone every week Shock.q

TantrumsStoleSantasBalloons · 10/12/2013 17:42

190-210 per week

2 adults, 2 teenagers 1 10 year old.

Includes packed lunches for all 5 of us.

CloverkissSparklecheeks · 10/12/2013 17:43

I think I could cut back if I did not use 'express' stores and went to the supermarket more often.

Treaclesmart · 10/12/2013 17:44

£100 a week here for 2 adults and 2 boys aged 7 and 9. It includes lunch for the adults, the kids currently on school lunches, but it was no more expensive when they were on packed lunches. We have a couple of bottles of wine a week included in that and toiletries.

ColaConkie · 10/12/2013 17:44

Around £120 for 2 adults and a 5 yr old. It includes alcohol and cleaning products though

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 10/12/2013 17:44

It would help if posters specified, which part of the country they're in. Because where I am it would be a struggle to feed DD and I on £50 per week. Nevermind, 2 adults and a couple of DC.

defineme · 10/12/2013 17:47

I think it's also about what you choose to prioritize too. My friend's main love in life is food - she spends about as much as profplum at Waitrose, we have similar incomes, but I'd rather eat value food and go abroad on holiday-she won't. Obviously, both of us are lucky enough to be able to choose what to prioritize.

CloverkissSparklecheeks · 10/12/2013 17:47

We are in the South of England, fairly high cost of living I believe.

DoctorRobert · 10/12/2013 17:49

£70-£80 a week, that's for 2 adults and a toddler and includes lunches for us all.

profplum are you serious? £400+ a week?
