Our oven is in a shocking state Xmas Blush and having read this thread I have been looking up local companies to sort it out. I like the look of one which promises to take all the sides and walls etc out. The only thing worrying me is that on their website they have 'before and after' pictures and ours is much, much worse than their 'before' one. Is there a possibility that they might be defeated by ours and my money will be wasted?

ScarletLady02 · 10/12/2013 20:12

When I first left home I didn't realise just how bloody horrible oven cleaning chemicals were....the first time I did it I thought "Ah a pair of latex gloves'll do it"....

I ended up laid up on the sofa with a rash all up my arms....I even called my EXDH because I felt like I was going to pass out...

Snce then, I'm wary of it, but can't afford to get someone in....so generally my oven is manky...or DH does it.

Toomanycuppas · 10/12/2013 20:15

Don't worry Winkle, Magic Gavin tells me he's seen some shockers and likes a challenge! He also cleans barbecues so I'm thinking of having oven and barbie done next time.

ZombiePenguin · 10/12/2013 20:40

I clean mine weekly. If I cook something which might cause dirt, I do a quick swish (no scrubbing) so 30secs, which means it isn't a real chore or anything, as it doesn't build up much.

TheFuzz · 10/12/2013 23:18

As I mentioned earlier, oven bright. It's less than £3. Put racks in the bag, pour in at least half the gel. Seal. Give it a shake and leave. Rest in oven, and wipe the solution round the oven surfaces including door glass. No bad smells but you have to use gloves.

Best left overnight, but I did ours in an afternoon. Even cleaned up an old stainless roasting tin we had not used for along time due to it being black and crusty. Like brand new when finished. It's a messy job, but so worth it.

Topaz25 · 10/12/2013 23:37

I'm veggie and use the excuse that I don't want to clean meat fat off the oven so my housemate and DH take turns because they eat meat. Housemate took her turn 9 months ago, DH hasn't got around to it yet! So now the cleaner does it.

winklewoman · 11/12/2013 11:27

toomanycuppas, right, I have booked a clean, and if they take a look and run away screaming I shall blame you.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 13:15

When are they coming winkle?

winklewoman · 11/12/2013 13:18

Next Wednesday, Sparkling. We are having a drinks do on 22nd so hope to be able to open the oven door and remove sausage rolls without shame. Why do you ask?

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 13:20

I wanted to get excited on your behalf winkle. Blush I really want mine done but it keeps slipping down the list of things to pay for. Sad

winklewoman · 11/12/2013 13:27

Excite away! I am rather looking forward to the experience as well. Boringly, the dishwasher needs fixing, the man is coming to sort it out at vast expense on Tuesday, so I thought sod it, I'm having that oven done too. In for a penny etc.

Ephiny · 11/12/2013 13:27

I think our cleaner does it, along with the rest of the kitchen. The actual inside of the oven doesn't seem to get particularly dirty, it's more the hob on top that suffers from spills and splashes.

winklewoman · 11/12/2013 13:36

Our cleaner keeps the hob looking beautiful, and wipes out the microwave, but I can't begin to imagine her reaction if I asked her to clean the oven. She won't deal with cat-sick, and on a scale if horribleness the oven is much worse. Mind you, I am now fantasising that after a successful clean on Wednesday, she might be prepared to 'keep it down' thereafter.

Sparklingbrook · 11/12/2013 13:37

You should take a before and after pic. Grin

struggling100 · 11/12/2013 13:39

I use an oven liner and put it in the dishwasher once a week. While it's doing, I give the rest of it a wipe down.

I also put the glass door inserts in the dishwasher.

I love my dishwasher :)

winklewoman · 11/12/2013 13:39

Yes, Sparkling, plus one of their faces when they first look inside.

FoxMulder · 11/12/2013 13:44

Erm...neither.
