My DH messaged his parents and mine just after DD was born to let them know all was well.

MIL phoned the birth centre half an hour later(rather than DH's mobile) to ask the midwives when they could come and visit.

I think the midwives must be used to it as one came in (I'd just been stitched) and told DH she'd spoken to his mum and told her it wasn't up to the midwives to decide when they could visit.

I gave her a very grateful look as she was leaving the room and she just winked and smiled at me :)

I have been told by my not yet ever TTC DD1 that when she does have a baby she does not want me in the delivery room with her thank goodness but I am welcome to be there as soon as the baby is born!

Hope none of this changes!

I do love a live birth thread. Please let us know as soon as you know!

riskit4abiskit · 09/12/2013 11:09

Ooo exciting congrats granny

We didn't tell either my mum or mil til after the birth and it was so great hearing their surprise on the phone! We got a few hours peace to gel as a family too.

riskit4abiskit · 09/12/2013 11:09

Can you tell us the name when baby is born?

reelingaroundthechristmastree · 09/12/2013 11:10

They're here Christmas day and staying over too.
It will be so weird and lovely to have a baby at Christmas, first for a few years now!

reelingaroundthechristmastree · 09/12/2013 11:13

Haven't been told names lately, some of the floated ones have been, how shall I say it?
A bit 'out there'!

S'up to them though, I shall keep my fat trap shut if I don't like it, anyway, names grow on you, it'll suit her whatever it is.

One of my friends had her mum with her and was glad of it although she said her mum actually found it quite difficult seeing her daughter go through birth.

If you think about it it's probably pretty scary seeing your own baby in pain giving birth to another baby!

Your DIL is very lucky I hope she appreciates you!

reelingaroundthechristmastree · 09/12/2013 11:17

DD has said if it's ever her she wants me in there Shock, I refuse to be down the business end.

ToriaPumpkin · 09/12/2013 11:20

How exciting! I hope you get some news soon. If I didn't know better I'd say you were my best friend's MIL as she went in at 3 this morning with her first and we're all waiting for news too!

As for telling people, I was induced so people knew the date I was going in but I don't see the harm in telling people you trust not to flap and panic or turn up at the hospital with a lawn chair and snacks Wink

pianodoodle · 09/12/2013 11:22

I was so surprised DH went near the "business" end but he got to see DD on her way out!

He doesn't speak of it though haha! I've asked him what it was like and all he ever says is "it just looked sore" :)

I'm due again in a couple of weeks (or anytime I suppose) so I'll know if doesn't look this time it's because he already got traumatised once!

This thread's getting me all excited Grin

reelingaroundthechristmastree · 09/12/2013 11:23

DS rang and said he's sitting holding the dearest, loveliest little thing ever.
I am crying.
We shall go over later this afternoon, DiL is exhausted, so is he but he hasn't just pushed a baby out.

Oh yes you've still time to get an "I love granny" sleep suit printed to put on her when you arrive.

And take a bag of cheesy wotsits.

Newborns love wotsits Grin
