1 Tell you if you need specs
2 Tell you if you're pregnant
3 Diagnose your child based on the description of their symptoms
4 Tell you if you've broken a limb
5 In general tell you what is wrong with you

We have not met you. We have not seen your eyes, ears, mouth, hurt limb or other body part.

GO TO THE FUCKING DOCTOR.

A thread about so so so so so so so so so so so so so many threads.

You are totally missing the point OP, doing this on MN is about a) finding someone who's been in the same situation and b) crowdsourcing so statistically there will be a few with experience of the symptoms etc.

It doesn't mean you won't go to the GP, it just lets you get support and info while you're waiting.

Eg when I was first pg - like literally the day after conception - I went right off coffee. This was way before a test would have worked. If someone comes on and goes ooh ooh we DTD last night and now I can't stand the sight of coffee, could I be pg? - I can share my experience. It doesn't mean they are pg, it doesn't mean they won't test. It means they can get a bigger picture and share it with someone who had has had the same thing.

Or someone might say "what is this weird rash on my baby that looks like pinprisck" and 200 MNers will ensure they go to A&E right now.

Golddigger · 07/12/2013 15:42

There are people who do not want to pay the bus fare, or pay prescriptions and charges if they are in a country that has to pay something.

Panzee · 07/12/2013 15:47

I've just spent ages on Digital Spy trying to find the thread that correctly diagnosed a heart attack from not-obvious symptoms.

And who was the lady who got told by MN she was having an ectopic pregnancy but was getting fobbed off by the hospital? Guess who was right...

mrsjay · 07/12/2013 15:48

OH i am about to start a diagnose me thread best not i am kinda scared to now Grin

IamtheZombie · 07/12/2013 15:50

MrsDeVere, Zombie hates to be the bearer of possibly bad tidings but when she was but a wee Zombiette she fell over and banged one of her front teeth. It died (poor tooth) and turned dark grey. It did not come back to life and whiteness. It stayed with Zombie until her adult tooth started to come in and the dentist then had to remove it.

I don't often post in MH, SN or stately homes topics/threads despite them all being relevant to me - I just don't feel ready to - but I'm really happy they are there for people they help. We all just use MN in the ways we want to and that are best for us. I love S&B, you might not know from some of my S&B posts when I've been going through a bad time with mental health/dysfunctional relatives, but I've found it helpful.

If you're only going to allow threads on the basis of them being immediately relevant and to the point, MN would go

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 07/12/2013 15:59

I have always preferred neener neener neener, myself.

most advisers do tell the poster to see the Dr or a HV though people are just talking things over really

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 07/12/2013 16:02

I know. I'm just being me grumpy.

OP posts:
Golddigger · 07/12/2013 16:10

Maryz I prefer Nerny myself, might be a regional thang Smile

ParcelFancy · 07/12/2013 16:20

The drunk thread one was an embolism that was getting all ready to kill poor ol' Liney.

There was also "the MNer who couldn't pee" (sorry, name escapes me for the mo) - who IIUC is now paraplegic but could have been tetraplegic or dead if she'd waited much longer.

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 07/12/2013 16:26

That was it Parcel.

Does my bum look big in this

candycoatedwaterdrops · 07/12/2013 16:38

I don't mind the health ones but the pregnant ones are baffling especially if they've not taken a test! Makes me think they're just after attention, not actually wanting 'advice'.

GhettoPrincess001 · 07/12/2013 16:40

MrsDevere - genuine smile from me. You've just about summed up MN in one post !

pianodoodle · 07/12/2013 16:47

I can volunteer my Nan's expertise in all medical matters if it helps.

You're either not sleeping enough or you need a dose of bicarb in some warm water :)

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 07/12/2013 17:34

I always forget there is a general health section.

I have to agree with Tee about the pregnancy ones though. How the hell can we possibly know if someone is pregnant. You need a pregnancy test for that Hmm

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 07/12/2013 17:44

I'll consult my crystal ball!

OP posts:
gordyslovesheep · 07/12/2013 17:46
