1 Tell you if you need specs
2 Tell you if you're pregnant
3 Diagnose your child based on the description of their symptoms
4 Tell you if you've broken a limb
5 In general tell you what is wrong with you

We have not met you. We have not seen your eyes, ears, mouth, hurt limb or other body part.

GO TO THE FUCKING DOCTOR.

A thread about so so so so so so so so so so so so so many threads.

But I can diagnose all that stuff. And more. Because I KNOW EVERYTHING.

Indith · 07/12/2013 15:19

Specs, pg tests etc I grant you

BUT

spooky and the ectopic

the little boy with the chicken pox that went very badly wrong.

Neither would have seen a Dr had DrMN not sent them in.

Sometimes this can be a good sounding board for normal vs really not normal go see a Dr.

wem · 07/12/2013 15:21

I was going to agree, but then remembered MN diagnosed my shingles. I posted about a weird tingling on my forehead. I wouldn't have gone to the doctor until the scary painful rash appeared, which would have been too late to get antivirals. Shingles around your eye can get really serious so I was very grateful to have caught it.

Often on General Health, people post there after they have been to the doctors.

Also, contrary to some posters' opinion, as far as I know, there is no one sitting over there waiting for the posts to come in!

On a more serious note, I have noticed that the Childrens Health can often need some attention. Again, some of them have been to the gps and are getting nowhere.
Sometimes a post from a couple of posters advising them to see a different gp in the same practice can help.

Sparklingbrook · 07/12/2013 15:24

'Woof to you' was actually typed in all seriousness on a thread ages ago IIRC. Not as a joke.

AnAdventureInCakeAndWine · 07/12/2013 15:25

To be fair, though, doctors can get it wrong, and I've seen MN tell people very firmly that they need to go back/get a second opinion/go to A&E now and be right.

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 07/12/2013 15:25

Is it sort of a 21st C attribute to the Knights? I mean, of course, the ones that go Ni?

And I know MNetters have helped and maybe even saved lives in the past. It happened on the drunk thread just recently, in fact.

But, in general, that's the exception. Not the rule.

I was going to post the manky chicken/fish/yoghurt one.

Still not as bad as Yahoo Answers

"I am short of breath, my left arm is numb, my chest feels like it's being sat on by an elephant, what's wrong with me?"

  • you have 5 days left to answer.

:o

GodRestTEEMerryGenTEEmen · 07/12/2013 15:29

I think it was Liney, MrsD, who posted about a thing on her leg who someone on the drunk thread said 'sounds like cellulitis, get to the doctor' and she went to A&E and it was and they saved her leg if not her life.

There's a reason I don't read NM, MrsD. And that's one of them!

As a mother with a SN child, excuse me, but the last place I would ask for help is the internet. Yes, I know tons of people have found tons of support over there and I did post over there once the first time autism was mentioned, but haven't been back after I got a bit of a beating on the thread for not leaping to do everything the people over there said.

Same reason I don't post in MH despite my MH issues.
