To think that belief in Father Christmas is not comparable to religious belief.

Just that really. I have noticed that the expectation is that we all go along with the pretence of FC for the sake of parent's children's sensibility, but the same is not afforded where religious belief is concerned.

In all honesty, those we label 'militants' are following the Quran more to a tee than others.

really?

i said previously my ex mil is the most religious person i have known, she had no issues with me being a non believer there was nothing militant about her she is just a very religious and humble person

KittensoftPuppydog · 09/12/2013 21:58

I don't have the balls. I freely admit to being scared to speak out. I think that's terrible too.

redshifter · 09/12/2013 21:58

every single muslim on this thread has answered questions
No. There have been many questions that have not been answered. You said to me "I will not answer your question. Why should I?"

KittensoftPuppydog · 09/12/2013 21:59

Yes, I do know what it means. I don't know why you think it's funny when it is used against people though.

AnyBagsofOxfordFuckers · 09/12/2013 21:59

Freudian, not at all. I presume adults will understand that there is nothing wrong or bizarre about a person having any mental health issues, and also that belief in supernatural/invisible things or characters wothout proof, or, indeed, with proof to th contrary, is considered a form of delusion. And then again, that adults will know that mental health issues come on a massive sliding scale and that to have one does not mean that person is in any way inadequate.

Far from trying to insult, I wrongly held other adults up to a standard of understanding, maturity and non-bias on the subject that it sadly seems is lacking in many.

DioneTheDiabolist · 09/12/2013 22:00

Peaceful please do not think that the people here who claim it necessary and even vital to offend are representative of athiests as a whole.Shock They are not. Indeed they are very much in the minority, just as Westboro Baptists are not representative of the vast majority of Christians.

KittensoftPuppydog · 09/12/2013 22:00

Yeah, avoided the answers by giving a load of old flannel instead.

GoshAnneGorilla · 09/12/2013 22:00

Any - I doubt you'd be throwing around the term "educationally subnormal" elsewhere on Mumsnet, because you'd get absolutely flamed for using it, in any context, let alone in real life.

KittensoftPuppydog · 09/12/2013 22:02

Oh Dione, purleezzzz.
And I am pretty representative of the atheists I know.

AnyBagsofOxfordFuckers · 09/12/2013 22:02

No-one has answered my question, for example, on how sex with a child can be acceptable, even in a time of it being culturally acceptable, when the pain, fear, suffering and injury of the child will be clear, and the act itself very difficult, etc.

It amazes me that we have people here excusing paedophilia and the promotion of paedophilia, yet Atheists are being accused of hating all humanity because we want more proof for God than 'a book says he exists'!!!

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 09/12/2013 22:02

^really?

i said previously my ex mil is the most religious person i have known, she had no issues with me being a non believer there was nothing militant about her she is just a very religious and humble person^

Yes really. For example the Quran tells them to hurt non believers, they do.

DioneTheDiabolist · 09/12/2013 22:03

Back do you have any friend's of faith and do you react to them as you posted at 21:22?

KittensoftPuppydog · 09/12/2013 22:03

I don't think you are educationally subnormal - just deluded.

KittensoftPuppydog · 09/12/2013 22:03

Dangerously deluded.

KittensoftPuppydog · 09/12/2013 22:05

Is it time to rehabilitate Gary Glitter? I miss his songs, especially at christmas, and I don't think he did any worse.

AnyBagsofOxfordFuckers · 09/12/2013 22:06

Gosh, I use it when I think it is objectively technically correct. That's why I, um, used it here.

And the comparison of Atheists on here to the Westboro Baptist Church is fucking disgusting. It's more outrageous and offensive than anything said by an Atheist here. It's comparable with comparing the Muslims on here with the Taliban. Which no-one is doing, because we are not being kneejerk or immature. The Atheists here are the offensive ones?! Yeah right.

FreudiansSlipper · 09/12/2013 22:06

so you are saying that those who believe are delusional

curlew · 09/12/2013 22:07

Dione- I would be grateful for your comments on my post of 21:30:54

FreudiansSlipper · 09/12/2013 22:07

i was asked ealier about mil vs the taliban

got no idea what that was actually meant Hmm

KittensoftPuppydog · 09/12/2013 22:07

Well definitely some of them are. They can't all be right.

DoYouLikeMyBaubles · 09/12/2013 22:08

Anyone who believes something just because it is written down is delusion.

AnyBagsofOxfordFuckers · 09/12/2013 22:08

I think believing in a deity requires a lack of sequential, perceptive and logical intelligence, which can be features of educational subnormality.

Or I could just say 'thick'. Would that be better?

redshifter · 09/12/2013 22:09

dione, Someone said earlier in this thread that it was alright to rape a 9 year child 1400 years ago because life span was lower at that time. (Even though menstruation was later). Can you not see how the vast majority of people in this world would find that comment very offensive and just totally SICK?

So yes, that is just one example of how religious posters on this thread have offended me and others greatly.

But they just can't see it. They keep on doing it.

Tell me dione, domyou find that comment offensive?

AnyBagsofOxfordFuckers · 09/12/2013 22:10

Freudian, I am saying that believe in an unprovable deity is a form of delusion, yes. And I am certainly not the only person saying it. Not just members of the public like myself, but psychologists, neuroscientists, scientists, anyone who needs more proof that an invisible man lives in the sky than a book saying so, etc.

DioneTheDiabolist · 09/12/2013 22:10

There are many atheists on this site Kitten and on this thread who have said that they do not feel the need to offend people because of their faith and indeed think it unpleasant to do so.

You said earlier that you could not discuss Islam with your Muslim friend's they way you have on this thread. Why not?
