To wonder why some mothers leave their baby barefoot in December?

I have seen this a bit lately. I understand barefoot at home but why on earth would anyone take their baby out in December barefoot? Not even socks on, bare little toes poking out the bottom of trousers. Covered with a blanket perhaps in the street but once in a playgroup baby is barefoot, or even sometimes out in the street barefoot. I'm thinking of one particular example and it's not that baby takes them off, just there are never any socks, why?!

OP posts:
BuntyCollocks · 05/12/2013 20:58

Maybe because they know said baby will just take them off anyway?

noblegiraffe · 05/12/2013 20:59

Every time I put her sodding socks back on she rubbed her feet together and pushed them off.

That's why.

NotYoMomma · 05/12/2013 21:00

are playgroups usually cold places? Confused

Bakerof3pudsxx · 05/12/2013 21:00

Has anyone tried those sock on things? Do they work?

amazingness · 05/12/2013 21:01

Yanbu I've seen this too
Not sure why. With girls, why don't they put baby tights on under the trousers/dress. With boys, why not longer socks bigger size then slippers?

Really upsets me tbh

ginmakesitallok · 05/12/2013 21:01

Tights then?

FudgeyCookie · 05/12/2013 21:02

Sock ons worked for us until I bloody lost them! Dd won't keep socks on. Or shoes for that matter, it is getting better now she is walking though.

ChristmasJumperWearer · 05/12/2013 21:02

My DC1 managed to strip herself half-naked on a memorable Christmas shopping trip once in subzero temperatures. I got a LOT of that day but every time I dressed her again, she sat in her buggy and ripped it all off!

She was also a coat-hater, still is now she's older. I've stopped judging!

MiniSoksMakeHardWork · 05/12/2013 21:02

Because they don't wear shoes, or have slipper socks. So likely will fall over on non-carpet floors wearing ordinary socks? Because they take at least one off at the earliest opportunity? Because they chewed them and got them wet?

Just some of the reasons mine have been barefoot lately.

furbaby · 05/12/2013 21:03

I am with you op on this one . Many a time do I see mum and dad with coats hats snd scarfs on and baby sat I pushchair with no socks or shoes on .
And Bunty yes they may pull them off but is, nt that what cosytoes are for ..., if they are zipped in then they can, t pull them off .

puntasticusername · 05/12/2013 21:04

Sock Ons are THE FUTURE. And so dapper. Look like baby spats.

MidniteScribbler · 05/12/2013 21:06

My son is barefoot most of the time right now when he's at home. But then again, it's summer here. Grin

Pascha · 05/12/2013 21:06

DS2 threw his sock-ons across the room attached to the sock. They lasted a week. He wears tights now under trousers.

2Tinsellytocare · 05/12/2013 21:10

My DS was wearing tights today as always pulls his socks off

DavidHarewoodsFloozy · 05/12/2013 21:11

Can,t understand why boys don,t have tights. We're northern Europe ffs it,s freezing in winter.

Justforlaughs · 05/12/2013 21:11

I don't really get it either OP. Lots of reasons why people might do it, just none that I think are good ones Wink Tights all the way! And I used to put my DCs in slipper socks as well, with grips on the bottom. Far warmer than normal socks and harder to get off.

JoinYourPlayfellows · 05/12/2013 21:15

I can't be arsed with socks for my baby.

I just don't see the point of them.

She's in her cosy toes when we're outside, so she doesn't need socks as her toes are cosy.

And when we're inside it's lovely and warm, so she doesn't need socks.

She just pulls them off after about 2 seconds and then I have to try to find them and it's just a pointless faff.

She does wear tights a lot, but not always.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 05/12/2013 21:16

I put DD2 in tights under her trousers and she pulls and pulls at them. She hates them. I also wrap her up in a blanket tucked right in under her feet, and I look back seconds later and she has her legs right out over the top of the bar that's on the front of the buggy.

Same with hats, hoods, coats are pulled off. Socks and shoes are kicked off. Blankets in bed are kicked off too.

She would be naked all the time if I let her. So sorry that it offends you, but whatever. I try the best I can.

Worriedkat · 05/12/2013 21:18

DS1 used to repeatedly rub his socks off then stick his feet out of the top of the buggy cosy toe. Why???!?! I wouldn't judge either.

Crowler · 05/12/2013 21:23

I barely remember anything about my kids being babies except that I couldn't keep socks on them to save my life.

Anjou · 05/12/2013 21:24

Depends where you are I guess. I'm in Scotland and its Baltic here. My 10 month year old is wrapped up in a sleep suit, trousers, t shirt, coat, thick socks and is in a cosy toe. He's comfortably warm when I take him out the buggy after being out but definitely not overly so. When I see a baby barefoot with no cost toe, but the mum fully decked out in woollies etc it makes me very Hmm.

Longdistance · 05/12/2013 21:24

My dd was bare foot on Sunday in her buggy. She's 2.6, and takes off her boots and socks when she has a strop on. They're the first things to go.

We had loads of comments from people, but I'd liked to see them try putting her socks and boots on, and keep them on.

Shoot me!

TheNaughtySausage · 05/12/2013 21:25

I have a sock-hater too, so I cunningly put tights under her leggings. HA. Try pulling those off, tiny sock-hating person!

She has also just figured out how to take her hat off as well. Do they do balaclavas for babies? Grin

2Tinsellytocare · 05/12/2013 21:30

Next do snoods

BuntyCollocks · 05/12/2013 21:30

My dd generally has tights on, but I can categorically assure you that she can get off her socks whilst in cozytoes. And sleeping bags. And under babygros. She is some kind of mini Houdini.

Got her fitted at clarks the other week and was told "these shoes have buckles! She'll never get them off!"

Bull. Shit.
