Chippy for tea?

DH text yesterday to say bil is coming for tea on Thursday.

I meal plan very very strictly and tomorrow night it's a breakfast tea.
That is sausage, bacon, eggs, beans.
Bil won't have any beans unless they are Heinz, only a certain type of sausage..you get the picture.
I shop at Aldi, so it's Aldi beans, richmond sausages, Aldi bacon....

Told DH he can get chippy as I am not pissing around buying stuff especially for his fussy brother. He is delighted as he loves chippy.

Would you?

Yes, of course. Bit expensive though.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 04/12/2013 12:19

It's fine - BIL will probably enjoy it.

jimijack · 04/12/2013 12:19

DH can pay but yes I know what you mean!

Chippy is fortunes!! I usually do a home made chippy tea complete with mushy peas, but bil doesn't like this apparently.

I would do exactly the same Smile People coming for tea fit in with what we're having, or we make a take-away of some description.

Know what you mean about chippy though - it's gone double dear!! Shock

snice · 04/12/2013 12:29

Would be cheaper to buy Heinz beans surely?

Optimist1 · 04/12/2013 12:31

But surely the cost of chippy meal would exceed the additional cost of buying Heinz beans and "special" sausages?

MimiSunshine · 04/12/2013 12:33

Nope not all. BTW I love Ricmond sausages. There's a time snd a place for 'posh sausages' but Richmond are my guilty pleasure.
Oh and add a bit of tomato purée and Worcester sauce to "cheap" beans, it's the thicker sauce most people prefer in Heinz

gallicgirl · 04/12/2013 12:34

Give him what you're having. Don't tell him where you bought it.
If he doesn't like it, he'll have to go hungry.

WTFlike · 04/12/2013 12:36

Aldi beans ARE Heinz beans!

Yellowcake · 04/12/2013 12:43

I'm afraid that genuine allergies and vegetarianism/vegan ism aside, anyone coming to my house for a meal gets what everyone else is being offered. How old is BIL? I associate that kind of fussiness about baked bean brands with the under 10s!

WooWooOwl · 04/12/2013 12:43

Can't blame the guy for not wanting to eat the shite that Richmond call a sausage tbh.

But of course it's not unreasonable to change the plan on what you were going to have for dinner because you have a guest over. Why would it be unreasonable?

TalkieToaster · 04/12/2013 13:08

I'm of the opposite view to most of the posters in that I think you should cater for your guest's likes and dislikes. It's a bit rude to serve something you know they won't like - why invite them then? Ok, I know YOU didn't invite BIL but the point still applies.

specialsubject · 04/12/2013 13:11

serve Aldi beans. He won't know if he doesn't see the tin.

IT IS ALL THE SAME STUFF!!!

jimijack · 04/12/2013 13:11

He is 38.

Still lives at home, very indulged.
(Have to say that fussiness aside he is a lovely bloke)

In principle I will not buy special stuff for one person. DH can pay for chippy as its a rare treat in our house so everyone's a winner.

MissMilbanke · 04/12/2013 13:13

I can sniff out a non Heinz bean from 10 paces.

i would however in the interest of good manners eat whatever was put in front of me.

Weeantwee · 04/12/2013 13:14

I would be embarrassed to give a guest beans, sausages and bacon for their dinner.

Bogeyface · 04/12/2013 13:18

I really hate brand fussiness.

Not liking certain foods is one thing but saying that you like sausages but only one brand, or baked beans but only Heinz is just fucking childish!

jimijack · 04/12/2013 13:18

webmaster this is the guy who's daily staple is Spam in all its forms. Bowl.

A cooked delicious breakfast tea is a regular in our house, my lot love it.

OP posts:
Bogeyface · 04/12/2013 13:19

Why wee? Who doesnt love brinner?! I loved a good cooked breakfast but never in the morning as I dont eat until lunchtime at the earliest. There is a reason why so many eateries do an All Day Breakfast, they are very popular!

jimijack · 04/12/2013 13:19

Weeantwee meant to say..SPELLCHECK.

OP posts:
jimijack · 04/12/2013 13:24

Spam..bowk not bowl. Gahhh

OP posts:
LoreleisSecret · 04/12/2013 13:26

Brinner is the best!

Beastofburden · 04/12/2013 13:30

I hate fussy eaters but I make an exception for cheap sausages, who knows what is in them.....But if I was coming over to your place I'd just have the breakfast tea without the sausages and STFU about it.

Amandine29 · 04/12/2013 13:36

To be honest I wouldn't be delighted at eating 'a breakfast tea', especially one made with cheap sausages. However, in the interest of good manners, I would eat it without complaint.

5Foot5 · 04/12/2013 13:37

38!! I thought you were going to say he was still a teenager or something.

TalkieToaster - I agree to a certain extent about catering to guests likes and dislikes adn always respect vegetarianism or food allergies. But this guy sounds just plain picky. Only eating a certain brand of beans FFS!
