I was with my friend at the Christmas market tonight and she was walking slightly in front of me so were calling to each other. We were walking along for a bit and suddenly this young woman turned to me and said "do you mind? You've been screaming in my ear for the past five minutes!" I wasn't really sure what to say.

Sad

AIBU to think this was rude!?

Just checking because according to MNHQ 'old trout' is just a turn of phrase, and not sexist or ageist so no harm to use it liberally.

She was rude. I doubt the market was so busy that she was physically unable to get away from you, and I'm also certain that plenty of other people were speaking loudly.

To me, she sounds like she was in a very bad mood and wanted to ruin your evening too. Just forget her.

You could always STOP SHOUTING! Sorry OP but my sympathies are with the woman you deafened.

"do you mind? You've been screaming in my ear for the past five minutes!"

Am I the only one here who does not find this impolite at all? How exactly should she have worded it in order for you to find it polite?
