To be upset with YODEL

According to the online tracker, they delivered my parcel just after 3 this afternoon, and left it in the back porch. I don't HAVE a back porch! They've told me to get in touch with House of Fraser for them to investigate. Really annoyed, the order contains gifts for my DGSs Sad

Yodel the trotter brothers of the courier world.

chocoholic21 · 03/12/2013 19:42

I've had this with yodel too. Had a note to say the parcel was in my shed....I don't have a shed Hmm

I phoned the company who had sent it and they sent a replacement the same day with a different courier which arrived the next day.

I would advise phoning the company you placed the order with.

OohBridget · 03/12/2013 19:50

yabu for expecting anything different! chipped Yes!

birdybirdy21 · 03/12/2013 19:55

They should not be allowed to trade IMO. Absolutely shocking service.

womblesofwestminster · 03/12/2013 20:28

This happened to me with Yodel just last week (see my thread).

moggiek · 03/12/2013 21:23

Parcel found! Had been slung over my neighbour's fence Shock

Their chief exec was on the BBC the other day explaining that they are so overworked at this time of year they're actually running at a loss, just to keep the business for the rest of the year Shock

The business model is crap.

lottieandmia · 03/12/2013 21:34

Yodel are terrible. They just dump parcels and run. Apparently they get their wages reduced for every parcel they don't deliver.

wannakillem · 03/12/2013 21:41

I have just come home to find their card, they had put the parcel in my neighbours electric cupboard???

I have also had my DD's main Christmas present left on the front step, luckily my neighbour saw it and then took it in.

Annebronte · 03/12/2013 21:45

I had a letter from H of Fraser saying I had refused to accept the parcel! Yodel never tried to deliver it - no card, nothing.

littlemisssarcastic · 03/12/2013 22:50

lottieandmia I've never heard of delivery drivers having their wages reduced for not delivering, unless you mean they are paid per parcel, and therefore don't get paid if they don't deliver?
Yodel only have 3 types of courier, employed drivers in vans, who are paid a wage irrespective of number of parcels delivered, self employed van drivers who are paid for each successful delivery, and self employed car drivers, who are also paid for every successful delivery. I have never heard of a wage being reduced for not delivering. How can that be if they haven't earnt the money in the first place to have it reduced?

Also to the other poster who said Yodel are running at a loss, that is quite true and of very little concern to Yodel. Grin
I wouldn't be surprised if that was deliberate or at least beneficial to them.

littlemisssarcastic · 03/12/2013 22:55

And while you think their business model is crap deckthehalls, I'm sure the powers that be aren't losing any sleep over it. Grin

Selks · 03/12/2013 23:12

Hermes are no better. I had a parcel left recently by them on my doorstep all day in the rain. It was ruined.

DeckTheHallsWithBoughsOfHorry · 04/12/2013 05:21

littlemisssarcastic no I'm sure they're not Grin

But it baffles me how any company with such a poor reputation can have such a high market share, and rising Confused

lottieandmia · 04/12/2013 09:17

littlemiss - I have no idea - I'm only repeating what the wife of a guy who works for Yodel said. However, all I know is that I will do anything in my power to avoid having a parcel delivered by Yodel if I can. I remember choosing a £5 delivery charge when I ordered something last year to avoid the free delivery option by Yodel.

niceguy2 · 04/12/2013 09:29

But it baffles me how any company with such a poor reputation can have such a high market share, and rising

Quite honestly because they are cheap. And when we order goods we either want free delivery or as near as dammit.

So companies respond by using the cheapest company possible. You get what you pay for.

SpicedTeaAndXmasCakeOrDeath · 04/12/2013 09:34

Xmas Grin My thread from yesterday also complaining about Yodel!
Appears they're nationally shit!

lottieandmia · 04/12/2013 09:49

But there is no point in a delivery service that loses parcels through negligence no matter how cheap they are. Hence why I was willing to pay £5 for a different company rather than risk free delivery from Yodel and have my parcel dumped...

niceguy2 · 04/12/2013 09:54

At the size that some companies have gotten like Amazon, they will factor in the losses and Yodel I am guessing still come out the cheapest compared with another courier who may lose slightly less. Let's face it, none of them cover themselves with glory. I guess the big boys like DHL, UPS are better but they are geared up more towards businesses and priced as such.

lottieandmia · 04/12/2013 09:57

UPS are much better. Where I live I don't have any problem with our Hermes courier either (but I expect that's good luck).

Saltire · 04/12/2013 10:01

I had this with Yodel. The parcel was showing as being delivered, but it hadn't been, there was even a "customer signature". I ran gthem up and they said "oh yeah the drivers have to do so many deliveres a day within a certain timescale so they sometimes say parcels have been delivered when it ahsn't so they are meeting their times"

oh well thats ok then!

Saltire · 04/12/2013 10:02

Also they keep saying that they tried to deliver but I wasn't in. I live on a military base and all access is controlled so there is no record of them even attempting to deliver

My Yodel man is brilliant, he lives near me and knows what time I get home so never tries before then. I can text him if I am expecting something and need it urgently so he can drop it off first thing and he is generally very helpful.

The Hermes man though is a complete nightmare and no matter how many times I tell him, he insists on putting my parcels in the bin instead of behind it. Reaching into a bin half full of waste and ash from the fire is not my idea of a good time.

Saltire · 04/12/2013 10:11

We used to have a really good Yodel driver, he could get a pass onto camp as he'd been doing it for ages. Then they changed his run so he got sent out by bradford. Then 2 lithuanians got the job delivering to our area, and what they have been doing recently is any parcel with " x base " on it was getting left in the warehouse
