Following on from the thread about the ghastly Katie Hopkins comments about Scotland after our awful tragedy last weekend.

So if you're a weegie (or just love Glasgow) pitch in.

I'm an adopted weegie, lived here during my teacher training, returned almost 9 years ago with my family.

I'm an East-Coaster, my dh is from Northern Ireland, our dc were born in the islands, speak Gaelic but are very much not-born-but-bred weegies.

I love the welcome, the people, the whole place!

What makes it your home?

Profondo Grin

You can't beat an Aberdeen Roll!

ProfondoRosso · 04/12/2013 19:09

Golden, a buttery and a big thick Frijj milkshake used to be my default Fuck You World treat for when I'd had a really bad day! God, my arteries!!

BumPotato · 04/12/2013 19:49

A rowie with raspberry jam, topped with mature cheddar for me.

GoldenGytha · 04/12/2013 20:26

I like my rolls with just jam or dipped in soup, the perfect lunch! Smile

BumPotato · 04/12/2013 20:27

Dipped in soup especially when hungover yes, yes, yes!

LessMissAbs · 04/12/2013 20:33

Butteries - they do put salt in them, don't they? They are salty rolls? (I'm trying to explain this concept to some Flemings...)

BumPotato · 04/12/2013 21:41

They're a mixture of salt and lard mainly Grin. I have a recipe somewhere, but I've never tried it.

MalcolmTuckersMistress · 04/12/2013 21:56

Very much of Weegie descent although I was born and raised further north! It does have the best music venues ever though, and many of my student days I used to travel down to see bands at he weekends.

squoosh · 04/12/2013 22:05

I hate well fired burnt to a cinder morning rolls. Can never understand why they're so popular in Scotland.

SantaStuffedMyStocking · 04/12/2013 22:12

I was born in Edinburgh but lived in glasgow for the past 25 years (I'm 28) dh born and bread weegie absolutely love the place.

great people that often get a bad reputation.

lotsofcheese · 04/12/2013 22:28

Another proud Weegie here Grin. Currently living in The Bugger (aka Edinburgh). Miss the friendliness of the place, shopping, curry houses.... Transport, schooling, property prices & facilities are so much better there, compared to here....

BakerStreetSaxRift · 04/12/2013 22:48

Squoosh, I completely agree. I don't get the morning roll thing. Maybe it's because Glasgow is my adoptive city, rather than being born and bread (ahem) here, but a nice soft fresh roll would make all those Glasgow breakfasts much more enjoyable, no?

prettybird · 04/12/2013 23:00

Dh (born and bred Weegie) loves a well fired morning roll, whereas I (pseudo-Weegie according to dh as I was born elsewhere and brought up in Bearsden/Milngavie Grin) prefer a very lightly fired roll.

So maybe there's something in the theory! Wink

squoosh · 04/12/2013 23:02

Yes I'm a mere interloper too, maybe you need to be fed the incinerated ones when you're still in the pram to develop a taste for them.

The same with Irn Bru, only people who drank it as kids can stomach it.

annaban · 04/12/2013 23:07

If I had to demonstrate weegie humour in two words, it would be:

Hurricane bawbag

homesick face
