to cut the mould off of the cheese then eat the non mouldy bits...

In my defence it was 8pm at night no local shops were open and I REALLY needed to eat cheesy pasta bake after work it's all I fancied! (I didn't feed it to anyone just myself) DP said it was vile to so such a thing so go ahead am I?

Profplum true about the dead people. I suppose if it's something you've always done there is probably no need to stop, but if as an adult you're coming to the "it's fine" school of thought possibly use some caution .

This makes me sound a 102 but we didn't have a fridge until the early to mid 70s. The farm house had a cold room ("the milk room") where milk, butter, eggs and other farm perishables were kept.

I don't think people saying they did it and were fine is something to rely on. The ones who ate the nonmouldy parts and then dropped dead are not here to report

I wouldn't rely on people saying that they were "fine" after eating mould either. How do they know it won't cause any ill effects in the future? Some moulds produce myotoxins which cause cancer.

I go through between 2 and 4 blocks of extra mature cheddar every week. I don't really eat it. If I got to it and it was mouldy it'd go straight in the bin. However between DP and the 3 DC, it doesn't last anywhere near long enough!
